What plants will be alive after all this snow melts?

Maine, United States(Zone 5b)

Oh no! That's really sad :(

I've got a small Japanese Maple in front of the front door steps that is still completely buried.. and I'm worried about it too.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

venu209, Heartbreak. So sorry. Nothing you can do except build a tepee for them in the fall, which always seems so strange to see, but I assume it works for small things. Patti

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Ohh, a Crimson Queen JM! I thought it was the hydrangea, lol!

- gee, the Jersey Shore doesn't seem to be a good JM habitat.. too much punishment during the wintertime it seems.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Doesn't add up WC, Wha has heaps of JMs, and USUALLY his winters are more brutal than mine. Won't stop me from planting more though :)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow, Louise. You took some hard hits. Sorry to see what the storms did there.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I know Louise, you're right, wha's winters should be more brutal .. sorry you got clobbered this year!
- glad you're not giving up! ☺

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Geez, sorry Weeze....maybe you can wrap Atrolineare and it will heal together

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

weeze i had a one the broke like yours a few years back - you "may" be able to wrap the split with plant tape and it will heal. if not there looks to be good growth around it so it will live on just take some time. my condolences, hate it when that happens

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I'll try wrapping it. Does it help to apply something like root hormone to promote the heal?

Thomaston, CT

Ouch.....that's a lot of damage!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

do not believe it helps - you may want to give the branches some support to keep the split in place - this is a long shot - if there is enought other growth cutting off the split branches would have all of the plants energy go to new growth.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

So sorry Weeze, you did get slammed this year (and last) , hopefully they will ALL bounce back! :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Tons of deer this winter. Afraid what it will look like. In the past they have chomped entire JM's. Would love a coyote. Or a wolf.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Both!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I'm not picky.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Two Boys=Two Bows = Lots of venison steaks. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Can't happen soon enough!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It only happens in my dreams, sadly.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

So sorry about the snapped CQ :( Sometimes gardening can be so heart-breaking. I haven't seen any deer in my yard yet, but I'm worried how things are faring in the 3 feet of icy snow. Plus, hubby kept raking off the roof, dumping huge piles on top of foundation plantings. Grrr.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hope everything is ok soj!

Thomaston, CT

My neighbor admitted he's feeding the deer....21 back there yesterday! However, if he keeps them in deer kibble, they should leave my JMs alone...I hope.....

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Not nice, once they move in.......

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

That's acctionable in NYS.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

All those deer ticks.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

your neighbor is nuts - deer ticks are an issue

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thats not smart, those deer ticks will be every where.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

There is jail time and huge fines for people caught feeding deer. It should be a unilateral law.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I agree. People are not helping by feeding the deer.

Thomaston, CT

Deer ticks are already all over the place here......yes, I'm surprised he's feeding them, he had a hunter come in & shoot some of his coyotes....of course, new ones just come & take their places! And the coyotes keep the deer at bay.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have no problem feeding them castor bean seeds.

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Arsenic and old lace.......

Thomaston, CT

When I was in art class yesterday, a dozen or so deer were prancing in the teacher's back yard......she has taken her house off the market....whoo hoo! We were so afraid she's join her daughter in Boulder, but her daughter has decided to move back to CT.....

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Robindog, You sound like you are finally feeling well again. Double whoo hoo! What kind of art are you doing. I am going back up to Boston on Friday to work on more pottery. That is keeping me sane and centered.

Dogs were going nuts last night around 4:00am, so it must have been deer up close to the house. I am afraid to go out and see what they destroyed. DH let the dogs out the back door where it is fenced, so the deer no doubt just ignored their barking knowing they couldn't get out and chase them. I put a pillow over my head and ignored them too. Patti

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)

Enough snow has melted that I can see the damage the weight to ice and snow has done. All branches gone on this tree peony, I think only one of my 6 survived, 10 roses snapped to ground, 3 JM just broken, the list goes on.

Much too painful to contemplate.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, dem, so sorry! Tree peonies are gorgeous....have you been to Cricket Hill? Patti, have fun at the studio, I'm still doing watercolors.....my teacher is a well-known botanical artist, she's a great teacher, very inspiring......we are doing trees right now, until our gardens are growing again!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The weather report said we would have winds up to 60 mph tomorrow. At least the things still under snow will be safe...

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Not going to be a fun flight to Hyannis in the morning, white knuckle time. Patti

Naugatuck, CT(Zone 5a)
