Lily type?

Independence, WI(Zone 3b)

How can I tell if I have an asiatic, day, oriental, or what kind of lily?
Thank you for the responses. Here are a few pictures (if I find the browse/download box...) The long, fanning leaves is a good identifyer...now how to identify the species and cultivar for possible future trading?

Do you have a pic of the plant?

Daylilys are not true lilies, they are Hemerocallis, they grow in clumps with long flat leaves in a fan shape.
Asiatic and Orientals are true lilies (Lilium) growing from bulbs.
You can search Dave's or the internet for pics. of Daylilies and Liliums to help you id your plant if you do not have a pic to post.

Orientals have a fragrance
Asiatics don't

Jen -

I never noticed that, but now that you mention it, I realize you are right.

My Asiatic lilies flower before my orientals.

Yes....extend the growing season by planting both.

That was my beginner's way of knowing which was which by the fragrance.

Here's one (I guess I can't do multiple pictures...) anyone know the species/cultivar of this bicolor daylily?

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of cultivars of daylily...There could be five or six that resemble yours. It's difficult to tell from just a photo - google can help!
