What's happening in your neck of the woods friends? Jan 2011

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Yes the bone density is pretty quick.
The other two tests not so much!

My bone scan is next Tuesday-have to be there at 730am and it takes several hours but I think what happens is you get an injection of radioactive material and then they do the scan several hours later so can probably go home inbetween but actual scan might take as much as an hour- tough for me!

Then the CT is on Wed- have to be there at 1230 for 230 scan-no food for 6 huors before but have to drink up to 4 cups of water in prev 12 hours, then they give you a litre (I think) of another liquid to drink before the scan ( no taste if I remember correctly) Probably IV also for contrast study.

Well I am just happy these are all getting done fairly promptly- I see the oncologist again on the 15th. Only test that really concerns me is the bone scan as that is to see if there is any spread of the cancer to the bones

'M' it is not a sebaceous cyst- the term started with an 'A'. I think I will try to get a picture ( with a ruler beside ) - will probably need to get some help on that one !

Charlie is so adorable, hard to imagine such a little one having such a health issue!
Ohhh Echoes thought I had mentioned that he's trying to get the new offices and possibility of 2 more going and then the changes will take place, for now here I am..

He did sent us this memo this morning though:

I just wanted to tell you guys that I really appreciate all of the extra effort and work you are doing on my behalf…… I rarely get enough time to tell you all how important you all are to me and how much I appreciate all that you do for me. It doesn’t go unnoticed and I am hoping for the results of what I am doing to become apparent in the very near future…… and that we can all benefit from the extra work that we are all doing……

Thank you all and appreciate you all…. Paul (Dad)

"M" as for the bread pudding think it takes a few times of micro cooking to determine if you have to cook for lesser or more amount of time..glad you enjoyed...how could you forget the cream? lol

Doesn't seem that long ago "M" that you bought a new vehicle??

Carole, you'll feel so much better once all the tests/results are back..

oops telephones ringing, be back in a bit

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Carol - thank you for letting us know how things are going. Really hope it doesn't spread to the bones - that's really painful (it's what my dad had).......
I'll be keeping you in my thoughts & prayers, always.

HUGE BRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from my 'neck of the woods' ... lawsie .. one can only hope the WESTERN members of our Canadian forum, will quit pushing the cold weather EASTERLY LoL ... like you have options !!
However, even though it is COLD .. if you stand in the sun .. in an area where there is no wind .. WELL .. you can feel the warmth penetrating through to your bones .. AWESOME .. has spring written ALL over it !!!

Betty .. the bread pudding turned out well the first time round ^_^
Next time I will add a 1.4 tsp of cloves I think .. LOVE cloves .

Carol .. perhaps Bailey has an 'Adenoma' .. also something quite common in furries ..
Good luck with your tests, have always felt the most stressful part of any kind of testing, is, the tedium of waiting for them.

Off to the Reserve for gas .. our prices have slid up to $1.28/L .. apparently the prices will creep up as long as the unrest in the world continues ..

Re my car .. it's a 2009 .. but .. it's the 'room' factor vis a vis Lorna and all her 'gear'.
When we go out there is a rollator walker in my trunk (goodbye grocery bag space) .. and crutches on the floor in the back seat .. sometimes accompanied by canes .. if the dogs come with .. well .. there's just enough room for 2 people in the front, and, Lorna's prosthesis is NOT forgiving .. it bends so far, and that is that !! Seems there is little 'free space' for a static object between the passenger seat in the car and the glove box.
Just in the process of 'looking' right now .. since I HAVE a Toyota, I am looking at their SUV, a RAV4 .. really, not that much roomier .. but .. more expensive ..
This is a work in progress fer sure ^_^

TGIF!!

TGIF as well "M", snowing here, Toronto didn't get hit quite as bad as they had said, am sure they are doing the happy dance..didn't feel cold this morning infact think when I left home things were melting, right, wishful thinking!

Andenoma "M", what can they do for the furry if that's what they have..few lumps/bumps on Sailor but she'd quite old, hips are bad so would not put her through any kind of surgery! Although I love my Sailor I'm not my mom, lordy those chemo treatments for her pouch just reached $6,000.....just know she'd not put $6,000 towards me getting treatment..lol

You almost need a van "M"..can't believe your vehicle is 2 years old already..how time flies.

Drove to the Apple Store in Toronto last night and met up with my son Jeff, came home with an i-pad so figure I'll sit today and see if I can figure it out..

If it's stormy in your neck of the woods, stay in/stay safe.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks M - adenoma it is! Better write that down somewhere. ( I have the name of this new medication written in several places as I still have trouble remembering it!) My cat has little ones all over.

I made Betty's bread pudding last evening. Decided to halve the recipe but forgot when I added the sugar and spices! Thought it would be unbearably sweet but not too bad. Would have liked some whipped cream or ice cream to go with. If I get out today will stop and get some to add with what is left.

Supposed to have gone into a deep deep freeze last night- my outdoor therm. says -25 at the moment .But warming up by mid day- do want to get out although I dont really need to!

I thought we could use another reminder that spring will come! Taken a few years ago this is a Hepatica - the first perennial ( not counting bulbs) to bloom in my garden.

Have been watching the ladies curling all week- nice to see all these young women in the sport.

Hepatica, will have to see if Garden Gallery has any of these beauties. The Spring bloom and garden show is on in Toronto this weekend, if I didn't feel so lazy think I'd take a ride, have free entry tickets..hmmmm we'll see.

Even though we had the male champion curling team from my home town, I've never gotten into curling..went once, guess once is not enough to get smitten.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Oh some time I would like to come to Toronto for that show!

I enjoy curling on TV - grew up in Sask and did a bit of curling and of course that was big curling country, enough to understand what they are doing and it is a great game to watch on TV because of the cameras able to show every inch of a shot and good color commentators who with the occasional exception of the CBC Sports fellow ('Vic') dont get overly excited like hockey commentators seem to.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You just let me know when you want to go, have a room ready for you...
I'm not really a sports enthusiast, guess my hubby really wasn't in to anything that didn't do 100 miles per hour and him driving..lol

Getting ready to leave for the weekend and the snow has just started..drats..

Not sure if it was here I posted, newcaster was saying the found a link to people who keep their homes warm and obesity..apparently when house is cold, body has to work extra hard to keep warm and uses calories..when hot (like my house in the high 70's low 80's) they don't burn calories..perhaps I'll have to turn down the heat

time to leave

st.george, NB(Zone 5a)

Lots of snow in NB today, started about noon and they are forecasting 35 cm and winds gusting to 90 km/h. May even have some rain mixed in for good measure. Got to leave work an hour early though so glad to be home and plan on staying here all weekend for a change.
I keep my house cold - the dog is big and furry and she loves the cold so when she starts to pant I turn the heat down. Guess that is good for me as well as her - and good for the power bill too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now that is. A lot of snow..you live close to work?
What you don't need is the rain added to the mix.
Our Ontario hydro is going up once again, keep getting happy face icon on my bill as I have a smart meter and seems I'm using
Hydro in the proper time zone but am sure regardless how I try they will find a way to increase it!

Hope you can stay comfy insides this weekend....

st.george, NB(Zone 5a)

I am about 10 minutes from home but my road is always one of the last to be plowed. They are good at work letting everyone get home early during a storm and I also drive a Jeep and the 4 wheel drive is wonderful.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I have my son and DIL coming home for March break so will be busy cleaning and getting rooms ready. Grandaughter has allergies and asthma so lots of cleaning to get rid of as much dog hair and cat hair as I can. They don't arrive till March 12 so have a couple of weekends to get ready. Just excited as I haven't seen them in a year................Laurie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laurie how wonderful for you to have your family coming..hard to believe march break is upon us. Difficult for sure when she has allergies and you have to worry about the curries!

Last night Kyle was looking for dog toy under living room chair and out came a dust bunny, I yelled and said put him back that dust bunny is the only bunny I have and he doesn't eat much..lol..looked at me as though I'd lost it....lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Cak a doo dee !!! About all I am able to say as my face is still kinda red and frozen LoL
In other words .. the COLD streak through North Western Ontario persists .. respite tomorrow perhaps .. YAHOO !!

Laurie .. I sure hope your snowfall fell BELOW what was expected!!
I hear ya on the cleaning. Lorna's parents are coming in May and her Mum has 'furry allergies' .. we have 2 dogs and a cat, none of whom shed 'that much' .. until you start to do 'deep cleaning' .. YIKES .. then it becomes evident they DO shed SOME !!

Betty, your one wee dust bunny is welcome to come vacation here with mine ^_^
NO charge even LoL

Carol, the Hepatica is lovely. I can see my lone 'Forsythia' bush just peeking out from under the mound of snow it was buried under .. still 'stickly' .. but .. it'll be the first to bloom (in MAY) !!

Not sure what's up for today ..

Enjoy your weekend

~M~

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Been busy .. found 3 BLACK bananas .. made a loaf .. this time I used half all purpose flour, and half 'red fife flour' .. seems to have worked well ..

Gearing up to go walking with Lorna .. the temps have risen and wind is southerly, so, I think a cruise up and down the driveway may do her good .. she needs to break that leg in that's a fact.

Attaching a pic of Lorna and I in the kitchen (where else whould I be) LoL

Lovely photo "M" isn't it wonderful to have friends such as you have...
You are cooking up a storm, wish you were closer I'd drop in for tea and a sweet..
Tempted to make something but being on my own I know what would happen, I'd do like the bread pudding and eat it all on my own!

Dress warmly...

Ann just dropped in, Mike is doing poorly, he has to be at NewMarket hospital on Monday morning for an operation re lungs..not looking forward to it. Once he's home Ann says he'll have to make a decision as to what he wants to do, continue with treatments to prolong his life for a few more months or just enjoy what days he has left...She sure held back the tears/difficult for her..prayers appreciated!

Hello everyone. My name is Lisa. I never posted here before, mostly just a lurker and information seeker. I have been away from the site entirely for about a year. My friend who introduced me to this site passed away in October so it's been a bit hard to face the place without her coming to mind. I have plans this summer to build her a tribute in my 1 acre forested yard...I hope it turns out the way her and I used to dream of. Sorry for the heavy post...just renewed my membership and thought I would introduce myself to the Canadians here.

Glad you decided to come out of 'lurking' mode Shiva! Sorry about the loss of your friend, I'm sure your memorial garden will be just the thing for you to sit and be at peace with her. I am sure you will do justice to her memory.

We all welcome you, hope you join in the daily chat! You've had quite the winter this year as well, guess you are anxious to get out in that wooded lot and dream of what it can become...you've plenty of areas for secret gardens, I envy you!

Hello Lisa - Welcome!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Oh man is it cold! Wind chills apparently somewhere around -35!

I did want to go out this morning to take my LH skirt to a dressmaker - I lost so much weight it hangs on my hips! - so I plugged in the car for a couple of hours and set off and darn she was closed! So a quick stop at Safeway and home.

But tomorrow I have to be at Rockyview Hospital at 730AM! I have to use 2 major roads to get there so am going to leave about 630 and hope for the best i.e. that the worst of rush hour will not have started - which of course means I will probably be there very early! ( It is usually a 15 min trip) This is my bone scan appointment- just have to have an injection then can go home for about 3 hours and back for the scan which takes about an hour.

Wed is my CT scan but in the afternoon.

Missing the curling - happy that Sask won. Briar starts on Sat coming up I think!
