HAPPY VALENTINES DAY everyone..
Aches and pains yesterday after all that shovelling, wouldn't have been bad had it not been so wet and heavy..mild out there this morning! My eyes were no sooner open that I was looking to see if we'd had freezing rain..didn't come so work day for me. I will though leave 1/2 hour early as they say there is a lot of black ice out there.
Hope weather co-operates "M" so that the roads will be clear for driving to your aunt's funeral.
Carole, always feel better when you know what the options are for treatment..Mia is adorable, what's with the people who get pets and a few years down the road decide it's not for them?
Well if I want to leave early best I get going
Gab later
What's happening in your neck of the woods friends? Jan 2011
How adorable is that!!!
Drove into work this morning, rain, sleet etc. Boss called at 11am and said they were calling for a flash freeze so call it a day, back home by noon, now that's what I call a "Valentines Day" treat!
Keep looking at the clock here at home, trying to see if I can pick up the Westminster Dog show at 2:30pm. as Sharon's American Eskimo is competing once again..won 2 years in a row for his category, she would be overwhelmed if he was to win a 3rd year in a row...
Just checked results, Sharon's dog Innukshuk just won best of breed, winning 2 years running was something but to win a 3rd time..fantastic..
Competing again tonight for best of Class - Non Herding..

Betty
WOW what a thrill, offer my congrats! That white coats just shines doesn't it. She must be on cloud 9.
Carol, another sweetie, no wonder you like this breed so much.
Lots of ice here and some very scarry walks just to a car so becareful all you out there with this kind of footing. We are supposed to go backinto the freezer as of Wednesday so....this is alberta.
In checking my stored Begonia's I found 3 that had sprouted so out comes the vermiculite and off to the basement windows they go. I'd better check on my Canna's in my neighbors basement. Some seeds are just arriving although I don't have too many coming it always surprises me with how many I really order.
Ann
With all this ice so easy to fall and break a bone..be careful..nice to see plants sprouting, gives us the feeling that spring is just around the corner, well it is isn't it?
Betty just saw Inuk on TV! Gorgeous dog!
Non sporting group being judged .
Later: She didnt place. Shar-Pei took the group.

wow - what a beautiful dog! She has a wonderful form!
congratulations to Sharon!!
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone (I know, a bit late, but then I was late getting online)
WOW Betty .. what a wonderful pic, and, what an amazing accomplishment for Sharon !! LOTS of hard hard work too.
We are into a MINI MELT here .. temps are moderating .. but .. we may well go into a colder spell down the road.
Lorna can hardly wait to be able to walk with less fear. We've taken to carrying a container of de icer with us for use in some of the really bad parking lots.
The 'saga' of my neighbour continues to expand .. I never did get to my cousins funeral. Rec'd a call from 'Freddy the Butler' FRANTIC .. Carol was very ill could I come over .. well .. she is more than just 'a little unwell' .. I called an ambulance .. and she is now in ICU .. by the time all that kaffufle was said and done, I had 35 minutes to shower/transform and dress to get to the funeral .. IMPOSSIBLE. As I had already been to the funeral home and spoken to family members I felt I was OK.
Carols hubby's funeral, however, has been put on hold.
Off to a docs appt with Lorna today, will be leaving the dogs on their own for only the second time .. am ALMOST tempted to take them with us, but, I do think PIPER (never Lilly) could get into MORE trouble in the car than the house ..
Enjoy your day ... SPROUTS .. whoa ^_^
~M~
Thanks, yes watched the show as well, not sure why, but they never seem to say much about the American Eskimo Dog as they do with history of other breeds, maybe it's just me thinking that..she's pleased with 3rd. year winning, perhaps one year she'll go the step further.
Very cold this morning and with all the rain from yesterday and the melting it's a virtual ice rink in my yard and also in the parking lot/steps here at the office.
"M" omg she just lost her hubby, do they know what has her down other than the obvious...yes, can just imagine Lorna wanted to play outside..been a long fall/winter for her.
There were a lot of dogs from Canada this year- I think the announcer said 90. Saw one from Calgary.
Betty
Had the tv on just to watch Sharons dog!! It's way more fun if it's sort of someone you know! Beautiful dog!
Carol which other dog, Calgary! and I thought I was listening. Yikes and I missed it.
"M" tough day for you sorry to hear it.
Lots of wind today and sun is intermittant. Temp is dropping.
Begonias doing well in a basement window.
Ann
Glad you got to see some of the dog show, some dogs are quite something..you just don't realize how many breeds there are out there...
Just got a call from Ann, Mike was in Barrie for Chemo this morning, he had been ill all week so no chemo, did some tests, one lung collapsed, did a procedure, he's hospitalized and tomorrow morning they'll send him to NewMarket for another procedure, doesn't sound good
I think the Calgary dog was one of the toys, there were actually several toys from canada if I recall correctly.
The other groups are tonight!
Ann I bought begonia tubers last week but not going to start them until next month. Maybe I better check them for shoots!
Carol
I had these stored in a basement cupboard against an outside wall and just happed to look and they are sprouted from just a nub to about 1 inch up so thought I'd better do something to help them along. They are my favorite color which is a picotee that is mostly yellow with red trim so the over all look is of a glow in the dark color. Perfect for the shade at my place.
We didn't have begonias available except at Costco here last weekend. Now I have to get after my Canna's.
Will be doing that with some help this weekend.
Ann
Hey Marilyn- a Westie from Ontario was 4th in Terrier group at Westminster.
Aren't you all excited that warm weather is schedule for the weekend..double digit temps, might even break a record on Sat. or Sun.
My son certainly isn't thrilled, wants at least another month of snowmobiling..lol...but his mom is smilling!
Looking forward to the long weekend, still won't be able to get outside and do some spring cleaning not with 3' of snow, but could sit on the verandah dreaming of what's to come and what my plans to enlarge the gardens will be..
Should go over to the garden gallery today and pick up a few begonia's..could look pretty in the house until I can get them outside..
Time to run, gab when I get to work..so nice driving in this weather!
Lots happening here .. am SO hoping the Westminister will be RE broadcast over the weekend . Have been keeping up online and see a Scottish Deerhound won 'Best in Show' .. beautiful animal.
I'd love to see the Terrier group ^_^
Nice a Westie placed.
Good luck today Carol .. positive thoughts coming your way.
BEAUTIFUL weather here too Betty .. high single digits, nice to be out and enjoying it.
Carol (my neighbour) remains in ICU .. but.. from what we hear she is doing better.
Not much happening here today .. so far ..

WOW .. guess who's 'sporting a sunburn' ? ME !!!
The temps went up to +6 (not a record) but .. good enough to have the odd fly buzzin by and the snow melting quickly ..
We grabbed some chairs and parked ourselves facing south, and , we enjoyed the sun and the heat .. the sunburn is NOT that bad .. just a little bit of colour ..
Have a package to be picked up across the border (in Minnesota) am thinking I may go tomorrow .. was waiting for another to arrive, but, I keep getting emails say the item is delayed.
Hope you ALL had sun and fair weather !!
~M~
wow - indeed!! a sunburn at +6????? hmmmmmmmmmm
Suppose to almost reach +8 to +10 today and tomorrow, wouldn't you know it, long weekend back in frigid temps but that's ok, won't need to be shovelling all weekend.
Nothing like finding a little corner and soaking up the sun..wish I was home the next couple of days to sun myself right along with you all.
No news from Ann, know they transferred him to Newmarket hosital yesterday for a procedure, waiting to find out how things are going.
Well, want to make it to the bank before work and need to gas up, now there's something I don't look forward to doing, prices go up each and every morning..soon one won't be able to afford the gas to travel to work!
Gab later
Hopefully hearing 'NO news, is GOOD news' Betty ... only way to look at it I would guess.
Susan .. with the sun reflecting from the bright white snow, it was WOW !!!! I see our daily newspaper has pics of folks out and about down to shorts a TShirts enjoying the break . .. BUT (always the BUT) .. we are to head into the deep freeze again real soon .. kinda typical ..
Still figgrin on heading out to the border this morning sometime .. however, if it starts to rain, as predicted, I doubt I will.
Enjoy your day ^_^
~M~
"M" much the same weather, how long of a drive is it to Minnesota? Have friend in St. Cloud...
Betty .. it's only an hours drive to the MN border and the store that has the package/parcel pickup.
St. Cloud is about 6 hours (maybe more) away south.
As it turns out, the fellas came to fix our gate that has been bunjee corded in place for TWO YEARS .. anyone who is on my FaceBook page knows the story. Seems posting a pic of the gate in ALL its glory did the trick .. so .. maybe I'll go to the border tomorrow .. there is nothing that looks like rain on the radar, but, it sure feels and looks as though it's going to do that any minute !!!
Have an apple pie in the oven, and loaf of bread on the bake in the breadmaker .. looks like it's going to be a HOME day .. I can work with that ^_^

~M~
We are in a deep freeze here again for a few days- dog walker cancelled this morning!
Visit with the oncologist yesterday. He has put me on a medication called Arimidex ( similar to Tamoxifin but apparently better) Hormone (estrogen) suppressor I think( have to do some reading). Lots of interesting side effect possibilities (most apparently uncommon) including hot flashes!
Pharmacist told me I should take Vit D 2000 IU/.day! And I also do need to increase Calcium intake. Suddenly seems I am taking an awful lot of pills every day! ( I started taking Iron and Multivit after surgery plus also have Immodium, Crestor and Actonel)
No chemo at the moment.
Having extensive blood work, Bone Density and Bone Scan and Full CT scan ( to create a baseline after my surgery) See him again in a month.
Got this rather nice pic of the dogs yesterday. Had another with their heads turned facing me but unfortunately it is a bit out of focus.
Here's a fascinating video - especially for those of you who have done quilting. http://www.nfb.ca/film/quilt/
They are gorgeous Carole! Is the news you received yesterday about what you expected Carole? Sometimes pills is worse than chemo..let's hope you don't have any adverse effects.
"M" must have passed through your neck of the woods when we drove to St. Cloud, know we went through Wiscounsin at some point on our trip a few years ago.
Very gloomy here as well..old legs just aching from the dampness
B O R I N G !!!!!!!!!! G L O O M Y !!!!!!!! Draggy day .. just put supper in the oven, seems as though I have been waiting all day to do that !
It's simply the weather, forever and ever AMEN .. foggy and misty .. patio is slippy slidey .. but .. we have sand down ..
Carol .. am hoping you get the results expected from the oral meds .. I take a fairly high dose of Vit D .. not exactly sure if I appear 'sunnier' .. but .. I guess my bones are healthier for it ^_^
The actonel is quite popular for bone strengthening as well.
I take a handful of vitamins and supplements before bed every night .. have done so for years.
Some say I am just producing 'expensive urine' .. BUT (there's that BUT again) when I have a bout with flu or nausea and I MISS the pills for a couple of days .. I FEEL it ..
Ann .. thanks for the link, I do not quilt, but sure do like looking at the finished product ^_^
Betty .. you may have come up around Lake Superior and then headed south to St Cloud .. its around Minneapolis MN
One of my nursing buds just called me .. all in a dither .. she was successfull in getting tickets to the Elton John concert in Duluth MN in May. Duluth is a 3 or 4 hour trip from here .. she is SO excited ...
So .. I had best go and set the table ..
Dinner in an hour .. come on over ... :-)
~M~
Just watched the 'Quilting link' ... wonderful .. especially the music ^_^
~M~
Ann, absolutely love the link...going to pass it on..amazing!!!
WHOA .. windy day today .. power flickering off and on .. had to chase a windsock as well .. it was a successful chase .
Hope everyone has a wonderful LONG weekend ^_^
~M~
Carol - Dr.s I worked with say that Multi-vitamins aren't worth the price.
However, they all agree that Vit D is wonderful. Pregnant women, and those over 50 (especially women) should take up to 4000 IUs of Vitamin D per day.
Dark skinned people in Canada should also take lots. Combination of less sun, plus their dark skin blocks the sunshine they would normally get.
Interesting Susan...
Good morning to all from, lordy where from??? Yesterday I thought I was south, weatyher was so fantastic, didn't even have to wear a coat, then last night, hmmmm highest winds I can remember, then this morning high winds, frigid temps and a blizzard going on..many local towns without power..sure am hoping my area won't be next...brrrr it truly is cold...
Kind of day to stay in jammies and relax...
This morning with coffee in hand I decided to look at flyers..wouldn't you know Michaels had a circuit v1 cutter, not the best but it was $269.99 on for $99.99...what to do, what to do..know at times when it says 'while quantaties last' you just got to know they won't have many..just trying to encourage people to go to Michaels.
Called exactly on the chime of 9.a.m. giving the salesgirl a pitch, you know, old lady, blizzard, afraid of driving in this storm..etc.etc. so she passed me on to the Manager, asked if I could purchase on using my credit card and would pick it up on a sunny day..she said no, that they do not sell by credit card unless you are there to pay for it BUT she went on to tell me that they only had 1 in and it was already sold but they had a lot in stock at the warehouse in the city and would be getting a shipment in next week so did put my name on a list to get one..so was thrilled .. now let's see if I do get a raincheck cricuit next week.
If weather isn't the best in your neck of the woods please stay in...
I'm off to do cutouts for the christmas quilt I'm doing..easy and relaxing!
When I look outside it reminds me, Christmas is coming...lol..ok, smack me why don't you!!!!!
Betty .. seems we sent our wicked wind and lower temps your way :-(
Still cold here, but, brilliantly sunny ..
Sure hope you get the cutter from Michaels .. what a GREAT deal !! It's a standing joke here when Canadian Tire has SUPER deal on 'something' .. you get there and they had had maybe 3 in the store, no rain checks .. exasperrating for sure ..
I think not every Province is celebrating a long weekend this weekend ? We are in Ontario .. calling it "Family Day" on Monday .. will likely be sort of confusing on Monday as to who is or is not open .. would imagine Ont Gov't agencies are not.
Lots going on across the city .. bundling up weather !!
Best get a move on .. enjoy your weekend ^_^
~M~
On Friday "M" wished the post office deliver lady the best for the long weekend, she says she's working, many of the stores are closed but I think even in Ontario it's hit and miss..just glad that I'm home for Monday as they are calling much the same weather.
Been thinking all morning of my son Greg who left yesterday morning by snowmachine to head all the way to Algonquin Park, drats, don't like it at all, not like you can find a hotel on every corner of the lake/trail system..guess he, my brother Mike and the others have researched it.
Working on panel 3 of the 12 month Christmas quilt, it's coming together..I'm impressed because I'm trying to get it done asap so once gardening comes, you know where I'll be!
Should make some soup, chilly in here even though the furnace and fireplace is one, most likely it's the high winds that's causing it to feel so much colder.
As for these super sales, yes, I knew there would be just a few but didn't realize just one..guess they'll give rain checks out to about 10 people then the rest they'll just say it was while quantities lasted..just hope I'm one of the lucky ones, NOT that I need one, shrugging shoulders, just another thing to drag..lol
Still frozen out here- outdoor hockey all weekend ( NHL Heritage Classisc on Sunday) cant imagine sitting outside in these temps for several hours no matter how many layers I had on!
Monday is Family Day in Alberta
However it is up to about -14 and the sun is shining and no wind so I may take the dogs out.
Picking away at some dog beds, have a stack of fabric so every once in a while I cut out a couple orstack a couple or sew a couple - not all one day of couse but if I have them stacked ready to sew it is easier than trying to do everything at once.
I was reading about the Vit D dosage- huge variation in recommendations- one goes by weight and if I followed that I would have to take 6000 IU/day.
You are always so ambitious Carole and you are right, if you get the basic pattern cut out it makes the rest easy to put together..should make something for Sailor, poor thing, she sleeps directly on the floor or finds a matt...hoping to go to Buffalo on the 4th so might be able to purchase materials there, alway such great sales...sure miss our Fabricland!
Hot dogs you say, now there is an idea for supper, throw in a baked potatoe and voila, meal fit for a Queen.
Speaking of potatoes reminds me I want to make scalloped potatoes for supper!
Ahhh wish I lived closer, my favorite and to tell you the truth, I'm a bologna and weiner girl..pick those over steak! cheap date lol
