Tree Burls?

Plympton, MA(Zone 6a)

What is the best forum to ask tree questions? Or maybe this is a wood-working question...

Specifically, I have dozens of burls on my trees. Many of them are on trees that need to come down for safety reasons. I am interested in finding out what I can do with them. How would I know if they are the type that would make good bowls, etc?

Thanks!

You might also try the trash to treasure forum, those folks are very artistic and clever.

What kind of trees? The trees have to be cut and dried which often changes the nature of the wood around the burl (like splits or cracks). I have some neat burled stuff, all decorative, but no time to post and I'm off this weekend. DM me if you think I can help.

What kind of wood is it? Do you have a woodcraft store near you?

They are on a number of different kinds of trees. We just bought the house in late autumn, so I haven't really seen the leaves enough to figure out what they are. Many of the burls have a red color to them.
