WE went for a walk this morning - just a pic to show our area - the cluster of houses in where we live.

What a gorgeous place to live Rian! Love the Weaver shots!

Burd, Wonderful pics! Love seeing the Red-breasted Nuthatch!

Burn, Love seeing those Redpoll's!

Lily, Good to see the Brown-headed Nuthatch! love the pics from your outing.

Nanny, You are so lucky!!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Thanks pele - problem is to capture birdies - I hear them and sometimes see glimpses, but in the coastal thickets, so difficult - I guess patience patience and a bit of luck..LOL! I see we have close to 400species in our greater region, but as I said knowing that and snapping them is 2 different stories! The nice thing is that at least 100 of them would be lifers - so I keep hunting! (with the "far-seeing eyes"(binoculars) and camera..!

Welcome to our forum Little_things, I understand what you mean about hearing but not seeing. I have been trying to get as many pictures of the red_bellied woodpecker as I can, I tried for about 6 months to just get one picture! Now they come more frequently and I get their pic anytime I can. I bet you have some very interesting birds there, I have always wanted to visit South Africa but never had the chance. Once again, welcome! Here's a little Chickadee who hit the door the other day, we brought it in until it regained its senses. You don't realize our fragile they are until you hold one, it is an experience you will never forget.

I love the way the red shows up with the white snow.

Ivory Billed is on my fantasy wish list!!

burn...thanks for sharing the repolls!

Burd...love the nuthatch shots!

Rian....to see Africa is on my 'Bucket List'!

Teddy nothing matches Cardinals in the snow!

All the woodpeckers were here yesterday. This shows a DOWNY WOODPECKER on the left and on the suet feeder is a female HAIRY WOODPECKER. She is a new visitor, so I hope she meets our male HAIRY & likes him!

After all he is so handsome!

From Friday....Red-bellied Woodpecker getting a nut to enjoy!

The female Pileated is just not as cooperative even tho she usually lands on the tree closest to the house. She is much smaller than the male that she comes with.

OK Nanny, you are officially the Queen of the Woodpeckers especially since you can tell the difference between and hairy and a downy. I still can't even looking at your picture!

Cool pics Little_things. I love seeing birds from other parts of the world.

Burd, nice ones all!

Nice job everyone.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wait! I thought she was queen of the warblers!! lol

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

She wears a lot of crowns! But I claim the most coveted Queen of the Dreadful Pics!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well indeed, as you are the founder of the Dreadful pix!!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I have enjoyed this thread immensely!! Also..you guys are too funny sometimes!

The sun is finally out today...forgot what it looked like. May try and get some shots later if the light stays. We had lots of visitors during our snow/cold snap and one of them was Lucy the leucistic female Cardinal who was photographed over a year ago. It was like seeing an old friend!! Sorry for the poor quality window shot....

Man....one of the guys has way more warblers than me.....who was it? So think I have to give that one up! Not sure that Elphaba doesn't have more than me....I just happily stumble upon them.

Oh Rose, isn't that nice when you see an old friend.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Thanks Margaret, With -30C , I have to look out for them. ;) I hate going out in this cold though.
Burd all lovely shots.
Rian, I'd like to be in your area right now, with he warm weather. Nice pic with the Agave and Weavers.
glad the Chickadee, had some warm hand to help him through Teddy. I'd love to see a Cardinal someday.
Nanny, your certainly are the Queen of Woodpeckers :), I think it was Burd, you were thinking about for the Warblers, but he wouldn't wear the title queen very well. lol
Gald your leucistic Cardinal made it through another year. It's great to see her again.

Something rare in my yard for the winter, is the Robin.

Hey burn_2007, I tell you what, how about I send one of mine down there so you can see him? He sure is pretty. Especially when the sun hits him, the colors just burst right out, he seems to glow!

Nanny, I think it is safe to say you are the Queen of the Woodpeckers!

Burn...we are at least 50 degrees warmer than you so I will quit complaining. I don't recall seeing a Robin in the snow...your shot is a beauty!

Teddy...your Cardinal is so handsome and I agree that they do seem to glow.

What kind of sparrow is this? I know it is a sparrow, but not sure whether it is a song sparrow, or chipping sparrow. I know it aint a house sparrow cause it aint red!

I'm thinking American Tree Sparrow

Nice sparrow, teddy. Thanks Resin for the I.D. Look here, is spring right around the corner? These Mallards said it's for they're pairing up.

I only see this lone Redheaded woodpecker, assumably the male at the feeder. Not like in the summer when he usually brings the whole family to the feeder daily. He's king of the back yard, most every other bird will wait 'til he finishes his share, but here is a Housefinch shows no fear and remains to share a bite with the King.

Thumbnail by Lily_love
Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, Nanny, Burd is the king of warblers. I don't think he wants to be Queen of Warblers.

Perhaps you can be Queen of Woodpeckers and Duchess of Warblers.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Agreed with your idea, Mrs. Ed. :)

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

lol

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Ah Nanny, so many titles, so much gloved hand waving to do...

I like your mallards Lily_Love.

Burn, I have a robin hanging around too. Not that unusual around here, but he still surprises me when I see him.

Rose, glad your old friend returned.

Can't you see these ladies saying "I'm not going down there. You go down there!"

Whoa! I'd have mistaken the female Redwinged Black Bird if Elphy didn't tell me differently. Tehehehe, look at the goldie, is he/she molting?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

...forgot to say that I would have mistaken the RWBB for a sparrow of some sort.
