joann - the hosta i ordered last fall and this spring are all plugs - think it is a total of 55-60 hosta - on top of the 60-70 i had - my hope is all these jm's and other trees i've been planting start to really grow to give me shade for this last batch to live when they grow up.
Garden Photo's, combo's, brainstorming NO LIMIT ^_^
Ge1836, both Wha and Boojum did some great pruning pictures and advice on DG that really helped me start to tackle one. Be brave. Patti
Where can I see them?
joann these were both dissectums - not sure if your spring delight is - obviously it likes it's home - they are easy to move as the root system is shallow and it does not have a tap root - before trimming i would move it a bit off the walk first - maybe your sil could help with that. it looks good though!
Thanks Patti and Bill I have saved the articles.
Ornamental grasses are next on my list when I do the side yard....need to get the walkway and layout done first
My golden hak died last spring :(.....too many dog tramplings, I think....
Those hakone grasses in Jo's picture look really large, but I think it's just the way the picture was taken. I see some iris leaves that are twice as tall as the grass, and that would be about right. About a foot high by two feet wide is about max. And none of them are runners, all clump.
That's my favorite picture ever, for use of them. I'm trying to replicate it along a row of conifers.
which hak are you using?
Alternating macra and Aureola. The plain macra is one of my favorites.
nice
Many years from now. I put them in front of a row of blue spruces.
The picture Jo showed, BTW, was taken at Heronswood. I so wish I had visited there where Dan Hinkley had it.
It's a great photo!
Yes Heronswood. Thanks Polly
Snowing really good here now, and our work canceled, so I'm home working on labeling and organizing literally thousands of dayliliy pics taken last summer and the summer before that. Will take me all winter, but that's okay, cause I need a winter project. And looking at all those DL's will get me thinking and dreaming of summer.
Jo, DD's corner garden is awesome! Funny how steep slopes never look steep when photographed head-on. That 'Garden Treasure' lily is a beauty. I'm thinking maybe your lasagna garden might have smothered out the moth mullein. Either that or it's a biennial. I love mulleins and usually let the wild ones grow in my beds, as long as they aren't crowding out anything. I have some cultivated varieties, too. Some are very difficult to grow. The common mullein is a biennial, as are many of the cultivars. I don't know about that moth mullein. It sure is a pretty one. 'Shocking' is aptly named! Does that and 'Species Regal' need staking? That blue and orange combo with 'Orange Art' and the larkspur is very pretty. Your trellis idea is great!
Celleste, that Helleborine is a pretty thing! Looks like it could be related to the lady's slipper, which is also a member of the orchid family. And do you know that daylilies are closely related to orchids? They are also closely related to grass. They are related more to those two families than to actual lilies. Love your 'Elusive'.
Pretty Eupatorium, Polly. I really like that one. I need to get some now.
I have only one tall grass at my place. Would be nice to incorporate a few more.
Nice spring blooms, Celeste. I would call that one NOID 'Strawberry Ripple' to go with your 'Blueberry Ripple'.
Gorgeous garden with the 'Hakonekloa' grass clumps, Jo. Nice!
Karen
This is 'Zsa Zsa'
Nice! I can share if you would like more.....will take inventory this spring. See what has multiplied and needs to be divided...what survived and what didn't.
That would be 'Night Beacon'
'Storm of the Century' has a gold edge which is what im pretty sure Post #8371120 is.
I agree. I need to change my map name
Gorgeous. I cant remember where I planted Storm of C. Maybe it was not on the order and the nursery sent a substitute. I cant find it in any photos. First year to bloom so maybe a bigger show this year will reveal Storm.
Pixie, adore those dark DL's you posted, or maybe even lust after, as does Victor, I am adding a few, I think. Siloam Plum Tree and Grape Magic to the couple that I have already, but they are pretty mundane compared to your beauties.
nutsfordaylily, love seeing your garden vistas, and so happy to see a good shot of Lilium Zsa Zsa, as I have photo of what I thought was it and I now think I can confirm it from your posting. Love the pale yellow blooms. Thanks, Hearts all. Patti
Love those black parrots Patti.
They dont last long around here. I had some first spring 2008. Never saw them again, maybe voles.
