I have some seedlings that I started indoors, it will be quite a while before the weather permits me to plant them outside. I was wondering how long can they be kept under grow lights and does it hurt anything if I let them grow till I can plant them outside?
how long to keep seedlings indoors?
If you started them in something small like cell packs then you'll need to pot them up into something a bit larger as they get bigger, but assuming you can do that and still fit them all under the lights they should be OK. And you really have nothing to lose by trying--they'll die for sure if you plant them outside while it's still cold out. Next year you might consider waiting a little longer before you start things--most seed packs will tell you to start indoors ~6-8 wks before your last frost date.
How long ago did you start them and what did you grow? I've started the first week of Feb and they were fine, although I did have to pot up. Some seedlings will suffer from being kept in the small cell packs for too long and might have some stunted growth after transplanting them outside, others do just fine.
i started them about a week ago , I got seeds off some of my plants last fall , I never done this before so i wanted to test a few of them first to see if they would grow ,or if I just need to buy seeds again. Some of them are growing now ,it is only about 10 cell packs but I hate to just let them die . There are petunias, vinncas and sweet williams I think one may be a verbinna, I think I spelled that wrong. any advice on how often to water these or how much ?
