Bird of Paradise

Toronto, Canada

I can't seem to find any info or pics on this topic. How do you know what is a flower bud?? Where do they come from, do they come up with a leaf. Do they come from the stems of the leaves? If anyone has any pics of a new flower coming up I would greatly appreciate it.
Thx.

If you scroll down this page through the many photo's in Plant Files, I think there are photo's of all parts of this plant including seeds: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/296246/

Bubble--

Plants here usually come from Florida. Would they make this long trip to Canada as well?

The usual "White Bird if paradise" that are sold everywhere are less than a year old.
I am sure they have to pack on some more years before they would bloom.

New leaves on the BofP. come from the center of the plant. First--tightly rolled up--
and then they unfurl.
I believe the bloom will come from the center as well--but not sure.

Look out for Mealybugs on this plant. They can hide in the depths of all the thick stems,
and all the other nooks and crannies.

The leaves are somewhat fragile--as they split/shred easily. This will not hurt the plant--
but it does detract from it's looks. Don't freak out if a leaf splits.....

Hope some of this helps. Gita
