Growing blueberries

Coon Rapids, MN(Zone 4a)

I have one or two blueberries shrub that I have for 5 or 6 years maybe longer. Two years ago I decided to dig them up (they wasn't doing anything) and amend some compost and peat moss to the soil and used some sulfur acidifer for them but they hadn't showed any positive results. I know the water and soil is neutral to alkaline thus the amends. For light, they get partial shade with direct sun for a few hours. Could the light be a problem? I don't see any yellowing of the leaves associated with pH - the soil is sandy so it meet well drained requirement. It doesn't put out as many leaves as I would had liked and won't make any flowers at all. Will containers above ground work in zone 4? Some information online said it's more easier to control pH in containers but I don't know for sure if it works or not. I have just began to try to experiment with a few so far common plants overwintered in containers to give some kind of interest and so far one species of sedium and eastern columbine had successfully overwintered.

I don't grow them here, but growing up my parents in OH and grandmother in PA always grew blueberries and theirs were always in full sun and produced fine. I don't think their soil was acidic and I know they didn't take the time to do amendments.

Some of the internet sources said some of the northern blueberries varieties will tolerate a wide variety of soil types so I think that confirms your answer. I have been wondering about the full sun part - on one garden tour I saw pretty healthy looked bushes they were pretty tall and were in full sun. I will have to think about where to put them for a new location to get enough sun.
