What is wrong with our tree?

Victoria, Canada

Hello, a helpful person on this site has possibly identified this tree as a cinnamomum species. Can someone tell me what may be causing the leaf tips to brown? This spreads to the rest of the leaf wich dries out and eventually falls, affecting even new growth. I am careful not to over-water, this plant gets watered once a week or so and light fertilizer once every 1-2 months. Any help is greatly appreciated, I would like to save this little office tree! Thanks!

Maybe to much fertilizer?

Hmmm..I don't think so because I have 2 more of this same tree in the office and this is the only one out of the three that is having this problem. They are all treated the same as far as watering and feeding are concerned. I keep the feeding to a minimum in the winter too.

I was wondering if it could be a root problem?

Look like possible a disease - is there some kind of plant pathology office in your area where you can bring in the samples and then they figure out what is causing the problem.

I don't know of anything like that in my area. Still hoping someone can share some insight. Anyone have a plant like this? If it is a disease what would be the recommemded treatment?
Thanks :)

Is it possible that your problem plant is in a less humid or warmer area, such as near a vent?

Hi plantfreak, I have 3 of these plants in the office and now two aren't doing well. One gets more light than the other two. perhaps this is the problem. I'm concerned i will lose them both, its clear they are dying. Leaves continue to dry up and some of the branches now too. Not sure what to do but will try moving them to a brighter location and see if that helps.

Looks like die off due to chorinated water but I thought that happens only to plants with a leaf structure like lilies or alvera.

Have you looked for red mites or scale?
