DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 369

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

And, a male (gonna guess at this one) Hairy Woodpecker. I am going by the beak. Cannot see any spots.

Pelle, please let me know if this is incorrect.

Yep, Hairy - no black spots on the tail side, and also a large bill

Thanks Resin and Pelle.

Lovely shot Dave!!

Cold and windy here. No birds at all so I knew something was around. Titmouse made a brief appearance and that brought it right in.. a Sharp-shinned Hawk.

Marlton, NJ

Just went out again and had a Red-tailed Hawk fly towards me very quickly. I only had a split second so I popped the camera into Manual mode and spun the wheel to make the shutter speed faster (not knowing where it wound up,lol). The SS was too high but I have a few pics.

Was able to go for a short walk yesterday and saw at least 6 Blue Birds out and about. My photo is not near as good as Dave's! lol

Awwwwwww too cute Nanny.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I'm late for the party again...thanks for starting it Nanny! You know that I am jealous of your Pileated!!

Wonderful variety of birds and some really great shots on this fast moving thread!

Teddy...hope you are feeling better.

I couldn't get my pics to load earlier but discovered I forgot to resize. Here is a window shot of 3 Woodpeckers...Hairy, Red-bellied and Downy. The female Red-bellied is ruler...whatever she says goes!!

I love those Blues, and just about all the woodpeckers. Nice ones Rose and Nan & Dave. Am I right to call this Cooper Hawk, please. Or is that a Red-shouldered?

Wonderful pics Rose! Nice one with all 3 woodpeckers!

Yours looks like a Red-shouldered Lily.

Finally got a long distance but clear shot of the Sharp-shinned Hawk that has kept the yard empty all day long. A few little birds dared to come near the fence and that brought him right in. He looks big here because I cropped the photo but their quite small.

Thank you Pelle for the possitive I.D. on the Red Shouldered Hawk. Sharp looking, Sharp-shinned Hawk Pelle. Hope he would move on quickly so others can return.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Both beautiful Hawks Lily and Pelle!! We have had a lot of Hawks also but the yard doesn't stay empty for very long. Also had a juvenile Bald Eagle earlier today.

Marlton, NJ

It's unusual to see the yard empty for a full day. This guy was very persistent.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I think in our area the raptors are looking for moles or field mice...I hope!! The Kestrel that lands in the back yard seems to watch the field in back rather than the yard. This Hawk was working the back fields with another Hawk.

Very nice shot Rose!

Mine finally left and all the birds came in eating like little piggies!

Wonderful shots, everyone. Too many to comment on, but duc, you've got to keep that one aside for next years contest.

Out on the river in my kayak yesterday, this White-faced Heron was resting on the launching platform of a boat shed. Birds obviously don't recognize you as one of those scary humans under these conditions and I was able to get quite close. I'm surprised I was able to get as clear a shot as I did, bobbing and turning in the wash, as I was.
