Protecting my strawberries from slugs has me wondering if I could keep slugs at bay by using cedar pet bedding as mulch.
Cedar pet bedding for strawberries maybe?
I don't know about pet bedding, but I use cedar mulch almost exclusively because the local stuff from the store is really inexpensive and I've had no slugs at all. For the most part, I've had very few real pests either so I may not be representative.
I think the real question is used or unused. If the pets have been using it, I'd put it in the compost and let it cook for a bit to get rid of any potential problems. Unused, I'd try it and see, but cedar mulch should be cheaper and easier to get in bulk.
telosphilos, do you use the cedar only on strawberries, or on other plants, as well?
I use it on everything because around here it is one of the cheaper, but not the cheapest mulch available at the store. I mostly grow trees and berries though. One of these days I'll get around to building a raised bed garden for veggies, but I'm not there yet.
