I am going to start my first vegtable garden but I read somewhere that you should not plant near a tree. My husband planted a flowering crab right in the only area I could plant vegtables successfully....is this going to be a problem?
CLOSED: Vegtable Garden
Yes!
The roots will invade your vegetable bed, and the shade will prevent your vegetables from producing food.
The tree will also rob your plant of water.

This happened to us twice, but with a tree sapling and zinnias. We set out a sapling too near a mature tree. The sapling died, most likely because the mature tree was taking all the water. Also I planted zinnias last summer too near a pecan tree. The zinnias looking wilted all season, even after a good rain.
Is the worthless flowering crab moveable? If not how big is it?Trees will rob water and nutrients and some like cherry will posion transplants but how big is this thing? I am betting the two can live in harmony for a while anyway.
