DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 364

Marlton, NJ

Thanks to everyone for so many great shots on the last thread!

Had to pull up some from the past to start this thread. Here is a Mourning Dove from last year.

Beautiful shots, Pelle.

At the river foreshore a few days ago there was a Pied Oystercatcher. It was relaxed and I planned to get some nice shots of it - until a dog came along. The dog wasn't chasing birds, it was just running along the river bank. In this first shot, the blurry white shape with the pink blurry shape in the middle of it is a West Highland White - with tongue.

So the Oystercatcher departed the scene.

Wow, beautiful pictures Margaret and what a cool bird! My problem is usually my own dogs. Yesterday, it seemed like every time a bird posed for me, one of my dogs would scare it away before I could get the photo.

Nice start Pelle. Sometimes, for me at least, finding pics in your archives is harder than taking them in the first place! Should I make a new year's resolution to be more organized? -- nah, I have too many resolutions already!

And a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.

Duc, forgot to say that your warbler with the spider on the last thread was UNBELIEVABLE! That should be in a bird book. Don't you hate it when one bug eater eats another though?

Resin, thanks for catching the misspelled Steller's-I'll correct my records too.

Burn, love your little Redpolls and Pine Siskins.

Iris, enjoy the birds and know that you're helping to keep them going through the winter.

Burd, great shot of the eagle. At least you got a photo of the goldeneyes.

Thanks for the wonderful new start Pelle. The dove is beautiful as are the junco and cardinal.

Margaret, if it wasn't for the dog, we might not have gotten to see the beautiful wings-great job with your pictures.

Elphaba, I have plenty of spiders around so I'm happy the warbler found some food. Great shot of the sapsucker. The wrens are always so fast, at least you caught it.

My Brewer's Blackbirds are all loving the peanut butter log which I'm refilling three times a day. Think my count will be high this year for the Christmas Bird Count!

I think the female House Finches are as pretty as the males.

Judging by the amount of berries this guy was stuffing in, I think he's going to be a bright red.

With the lousy weather we have been getting, the birds and I are hibernating (lazy), so I'll have to use my dog mate to wish all Merry Christmas.

Margaret, Love that Pied Oystercatcher!

Elphaba, Good to see the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker!

Duc, Nice catch of the male House Finch with the berry! All your birds look very relaxed and happy.

Adel, Good one! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

pelletory - wonderful start for the thread. That pic of the female Northern Cardinal is flat-out superb!

MargaretK - I liked the shot of the departing the Oystercatcher. What lens were you using?

Elphaba - I see that your wren is puffed up pretty much. Is it cold there?

ducbucln - Wow, you still have hummers. Mine a long gone.

adelbertcat - cute pup.

syndicate1 - beautiful Chickadee!

Didn't go outside, lousy weather, but did open the side door and snapped pix of birds in my side yard.

Here are two of the several Blue Jays that were out there.

They didn't linger long on the ground. They flew up to a branch to finish eating.

Well, my Goldfinches have finally returned. I didn't see any males, just females like this one.

Still have House Sparrows, like this guy, but not as many as usual - I'm not sad about it, either.

My last one for now is one of my ever present Tufted Titmice.

Pelle, thanks for the new thread. Beautiful shot of the Mourning Dove, Junco and Cardinal.
So beautiful Margaret.
Elphaba, I can't wait to see the Sapsucker again,
Thanks Duc, you have some beautiful background for your birds. Love the Hawk and hummer .
Syndicate1 wow, nice shot of the Chickadee. Great job!!!
Hack, I can't stand the lousy weather either, but seems like the birds don't mind it too much.

Well you all are off & running & Thanks for the new thread pelle!

I have yet to unload the camera....have several pileated shots...nothing really new. I did have a Pine Siskin the otehr day but it took off just as I hit the shutter button! Not a new bird ...but one I am hoping to get a better photo of.

PERTH, Australia

Wonderful birds, everyone. Can't wait to see your Pileated, nanny. Hack the Oystercatcher shot was taken with the 400mm Canon.

I found this photo of a Port Lincoln Ringneck (AKA Twenty-eight), taken several weeks ago.

Margaret, why in the world would a bird be called 28?

Hack, I think someone with a very active imagination believed that's what one of their calls sounds like. Here's another shot from a couple of years ago. In flight, their backs glow with a beautiful luminance. They are one of my favourites.

Hi folks.

Gosh miss a few days and it takes a day to look at all of the threads. Too many wonderful pictures to comment on individually, so I'll just say I love 'em all and keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the new thread Pelle..great shot of the Dove!

You all have made a beautiful start on this thread everyone...let's not stop now!!

We had some sun yesterday and I noticed what I thought was a Hawk perched by the farm pond. After checking through my viewfinder I discovered it was a Barred Owl. I guess it was sunning itself but not sure. It didn't seem to be doing any hunting but stayed perched...occasionally turning it's heard and then flying off. I didn't want to disturb him so I stayed several feet away. Here are a few big crops...

Dellrose, that owl shot is wonderful. I would love to have an opportunity to get a picture of an owl. Congrats.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Adel, Merry Christmas back to you and that adorable pup.

Syndicate, love your little chickadee.

Hack, I just love the colors of your jays.

Burn, sweet little dove, but I'm addicted to those pretty redpolls-there's something about the proud way they stand. Sure is a pretty goldfinch.

Margaret, that Ringneck is so pretty.

Granny, sweet little junco.

Rose, wow, that owl is gorgeous-how lucky for you it stopped in that tree.

Here's one of my Western Scrub Jays, certainly not as colorful as the Blue Jays.

I was surprised to see this Osprey yesterday. It was a good distance away so it's not very clear.

I guess that hawk of mine likes it around here, I went out and put some bread for the squirrels and birds and heard him sqawking. Couldn't see him but not a single bird has been around all day, had one squirrel but he left rather abruptly. Cold is better, but still not going out in slippers anymore, my hubby would kill me! Anxious to see what flower comes up first in the spring, I know I am rushing things, but I am so tired of this snow and cold weather!
