Let's start a titmouse thread

Stafford County, VA

You're hilarious, Charlie

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Welcome back Dave. I have never had any issues posting pix - as long as I take them down so that the widest side is 800.

Here's a Titmouse eating peanuts. It stayed for a LONG time, pecking away.

No, I haven't, but I will. I guess I shouldn't expect them to be mind readers. I just couldn't believe I was the only one.

Dave

Dave, I had posting problems in the past and contacted the Administrator and found out the problem - my files were to too big (over 7mb). If your files are too big it will not take. The larger the file the more problems I've had so I now I try and post about the 2-4mb files (lately just 2mb files) and they tend to take fairly quickly. I don't do any resizing just convert to jpeg using the quality selector in LR3 (i.e.70% etc.) during export.

Just a thought.

FYI: I am not a paid subscriber and I am able to post and respond on this forum, however, I think they've instituted a minimum number of Dmails for non paying members. I will eventually re subscribe though.

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks. I caught him with his mouth open. Almost looks like he's trying to tell me something.

Lewisville, TX(Zone 7b)

I love the titmouse!! I have a "family" of them now..they are BACK!! However I didn't have my camera with me!! hahaha... they got pretty close to me too, not as shy as I thought but they are beautiful birds!
I also saw a red headed woodpecker today but again, no camera!! hahaha sheesh, these birds don't want their photos taken!! hahahaha

Cute!

I hope this thread continues into the nesting season so you can show some of those cuties with the horse hair.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

So do I. I am going to set that up a bit differently this year. Have the horse hair all ready to go and my neighbor gave me some hair from their big red Lab. doggie.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

I have had some issues with explorer so moved to firefox without issues, but back with explorer (more because I am comfortable), but I have had no bad issues recently.

Lewisville, TX(Zone 7b)

I was really thrilled the other day to have my "family" of titmice back..only wish I had my camera!!!! I did manage to get one however but I don't know if it will turn out as "he" was sure fast!! I don't own a digital camera folks so sorry but it will have to wait! hahaha.
I am going to put up a "nesting bag" full of things too..when is the best time?? ie; weeks, etc.
This will be a first for me...but not a last!!!

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

I am hoping to set up a new arrangement for nesting materials this year that is more "photo friendly" and that keeps the materials as dry as possible. Last year the Tufted Titmice were using horse hair in March. The only reason I remember that is because I was almost out of horse hair and the Shelter's horses were not shedding their coats yet. LOL

They were so cute!!

Little things, you will like Firefox as it is color managed whereas Explorer is not.

Granny, I hope to see some little one shots, too, so don't hold back on us.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

I will do my best Methodical. An added bonus we got last year were pictures of Chickadees gathering horse hair for their nests. They actually jump up, grab on to the hair and hang on it to pull it out of its holder. Too funny.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Did not know that methodical. thanks

I never really realized how big the tufted titmouse's feet are!

You regcon that is a size 10 shoes for the cutie, Julie? LOL. He's cute dispite the big feet. lol. All the talk about nesting. I'm going to learn to attract Titmice to nest. After all, they're here year round seem like.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Whew! I've been busy out in the garden and just had time today to catch up on the photos-great job everyone. My "whew" was when I read you were leaving Dave and then you changed your mind. Thank you, I'd have searched forums forever until I found your photos. Please don't scare us anymore-we all enjoy your beautiful photos.

Here's one of my Oak Titmice.

Well, It isn't the $$ as much as it is the frustration. Each time it happens I swear -- that's it!. And for some reason this past week it has happened almost every day.

Dave

Dave, I really enjoy your photos and glad you have decided not to leave.

As for the problem uploading photos: Could it possibly be your internet service provider causing the problem? We have very high-speed service but went through a few months that really tried my patience and then when I contacted a neighbor who had the same provider, found out the same was happening to her. Eventually we both changed to a new provider. Another occasion, my router was at fault. I would get almost through with a huge download of blueprints and then lose everything. I was so frustrated and thought it was - again - the ISP but turned out my brand new router had "issues" and had to be replaced.

Anyway, glad you'll still be posting those beautiful photos.

Stafford County, VA

Thanks. As a matter of fact, it may have been the router. At least I hope so. I have a wireless network with five computers on it and about a week ago the router just died. I bought a much stronger (and more expensive) router and since then I have not had any uploads rejected. I haven't had time to be online much since then so I can't be sure yet, but I am hopeful. If the service provider is the problem I am out of luck since I think we only have one choice in this area.

Dave, that's too bad. I can understand your frustration. I've had the same problem just a few times and that's been bad enough, but it's been nothing like what you've experienced over an extended period of time.

Gorgeous shots of your dear little birds.

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

These are lovely birds! I just began seeing them at my birdfeeder a few days ago but haven't yet managed to catch a photo yet. Do you set up the camera on a tripod to have it ready? Hm, I think I have an old tripod around somewhere . . .

The cardinals keep chasing the titmice away. I think I have a nesting pair of cardinals somewhere close by.

In fact we had "Bird Wars" at the feeder yesterday with bluejays, mockingbirds and some black guys I haven't ID'd yet, in addition to the cardinals all battling with the sweet little titmice.

I am impressed that they stand up to the bigger birds.

Stafford County, VA

I use two cameras usually. One is on a tripod, mostly because it is either the 500mm or a 600mm and just too heavy and bulky for me to grab, point and focus before these guys are here and gone. I rarely intend to shoot anything other than the bluebirds and I am concentrating on places I expect, or hope, they will perch. If a titmouse or a Carolina wren happens to show up, I usually will shoot a few shots of them.

My titmice are shoved around by most of the birds that are larger than they are, and even the Carolina wrens, which though smaller, are much more aggressive. The only birds I have seen the titmouse consistently dominate are the chickadees.

Dave, what size are your files? In the past, I had issues uploading my files and it turned out the files were too large (spoke to admin), so I now keep them at 3mb or lower, now. When the file size was 7mb, it would reject the upload, but would take 6mb, but very slowly and if it took to long it would time out. At 5mb or lower, no problem, but as I stated I tend to keep them under 3mb and zip they upload without a hitch. I'd say check your file size to see if they are too large.

Sandusky, OH

Wonderful Titmouse shots all!!! I finally got another shot of one.

I forgot to add my images in my last post, so here goes.

Both taken with the 2x tc attached to the lens (1000mm).
