awwww cute!
Happy New Year, everyone. Cold here, but the sun is out. Hope we all see some great blooms!
Velvet Rose Brugmansia
Good morning everyone
Charlene, hope you have a great New years morning
Retta, what a cutie, yes the house is warmer, hopefully now we can keep the thermastat at 68 degrees, those few degrees
makes a big difference in the heat bill, that has always be high for the months of January, February & March, we should save enough too pay for the foam, you really have cold weather, stay warm
Debra, it's not bad here this morning, it started out at 54 degrees, & raining, I'll take that over snow any day
Elizabeth
retta,
SooOoOOooOO adorable!!!!!! Have fun with him!
Cold here today too. Only 22 right now. Not suppose to warm up much more either.
Happy New Year all my friends!!!!!!!!!
I am going to get one of Mekos's Chihuahua the last of this month. He will look like yours Rhetta. How wonderful.
Happy New Year, getting rain at the moment and the temps ate quite nice., in the 60's. I love it.
Still got to see what needs to be cleaned out of gh. I hope my pots make it thru the winter. I know all my cuttings had ice in the buckets. One of these new fangles elec. heaters that you have to reset everytime it goes off. So disappointed. I sure didn't expect ice in buckets but there it was. Hope my potted ones come out of it. Still have some in house. This happened a week or so ago when we had all that cold weather.
Good Morning everyone
Crit, Happy New years too you, that is cold weather, our forcast is back in the 30's all next week, come o Spring
Charlene, Congratulations on your new Chihuahua, I didn't have ice too deal with but some of my Brugs just dried up all the way down too the rootball, I rearranged all of them so I could water them, it is so disappointing too lose them, a couple
of them I just threw away, if there is anyway you can afford an eden pure heater, it stays on, plus the outside of it isn't hot
to the touch, so it is safe too use, I am glad you have warm weather, now
Elizabeth
I have lost a few brugs to the soil level, but the roots are still going. I am not proud of the five cuttings from coop and from dee that have not made it. I wonder why some do and some don't?
I cut betty marshall back earlier this winter, and she has not only re-leafed, but Y'd 4 times on one area of her. Here she is. this was taken Dec 31st.
Dee sent me a Confusion and I guess it was confused, it didn't make it but the others look great! Some plants just don't have any will power. Poor things. I have some that barely make it from one season to the next.
I was really thinking the pink dragon would do great, and then it got cold and it was in the window. I think it got too cold.. lost NOL too. Boo Hooooooo *sniff*
My grandma and Grandpa had chiwawas.. smoky and snow ball. Snow Ball outlived smokey, and she looked like a white football on toothpicks that girl ate so much. She ate some weird stuff.. grapes, melon. green peppers.. my grandma gave them what ever she ate.
These cuttings are still COOKING lol.
What kind of medium do you use, Debra. I know you've said but I have that old women problem,
CRC (can't remember crap)
debra,i know that i'm new at tryin to grow brugs, but out of the 11 that kim sent me,i have one left, and that is a noid.
i was really disappointed when i lost cherub.wich was yesterday.
but i'm not giving up,i'm going to check the nurserys out in the spring and see if i cannot buy one or two and try again.
i'm sending out the packages today or tomarrow.hope u ladies like what i made.
retta
Good morning
sounds like all of us have lost some Brugs, Thank goodness Miss B. Having is getting all kinds of leaves, some of them
I think are stronger than the others
Debra, your Betty Marshall looks great, Girl you have got touch
Charlene, have you heard from Dee, I know we all miss her, hopefully she can get a better internet service
Retta, in the Spring I can send you soe clippings for postage, if you're interested? I just might have some that you're looking
for
Tommorrow, I will post photo's of my basement Garden room, I hope it looks as good as Debra's
Elizabeth
No, haven't, but sure wish I did I may try to call her.
yes elizabeth,i want some of your cuttings, postage will be no problem, looking forward to spring.
retta
Elizabeth, there may be a chance, not all those brugs didn't freeze. think I'm going to bring my Aquarium in here and see if I can encourage them to live...
I do have a hoophouse and that does make it easier but last Winter I could not keep it warm or dry enough to keep most of my cuttings from rotting. This yeas is different, almost every cutting is rooting and is growing faster than I can keep them potted up. Long hours at work does not leave time to give them the care they need but all and all I should have lots of plants by Spring. I never finished all my trades this Fall and I wanted to send dome of the newbies some. This should be a good Spring.
Retta, plz do not worry about a cherub, good grief I have a ton of them growing.
Here are just two of them in the white tub. I am just skittish at sending anything right now, it is sooo cold. The plants I just now got from ebay came half frozen. ( EEs) Hopefully they will be okay. I ordered them a while back and the weather was much nicer then.
debra, thank you so much, and to all you ladies ,thank you ,thank you
retta
Good morning everyone, it's so great too see everyone
Retta, That will work, as soon as we get a break in the weather, I will dmail you
Charlene, I so hope you can keep yours alive, you have done so well with yours
Ken, I bet you love that hoop house, but not the long working hours
Debra, looking good, I will get the photo's of some of mine in the basement today, I have too spray for aphids, they like
some of the brugs more than the others, also I have too ask for Cherub, it was CG that I got from you, it's growing so well
but not until April it's thats alright, I'll do postage
Elizabeth
sorry double posted
They are looking good Elizabeth.
Charlene
Hey, Thank you, it's good too see you, I still have some more work in the basement, some of them that bit the dust, are
already dumped, they were dried up all the way too the rootball, winter 2011, I will put more of my Big brugs in potting soil
bags, the one I have that way from this past fall, are doing great
Elizabeth
I went out to my gh but You know there may be some still alive so make there was an ice crst on the buckets and it didn't get to the roots. Even one of those delicate water plants is looking green So where there is life there is hope.
Hugs Elizabeth.
oh elizabeth,your plants look wonderful.
do you turn the lights off at nite.i do.and then turn them back on when i get up.
my plumeria is starting to sprout.
i have lost some leaves off of the noid.but i guess its alright, still alive.thats a plus.
retta
This time of year it does not hurt to keep the lights on 24-7. We are having a cold front hit the first of next week and the high is going to be 34 her next Tuesday. if it's getting that cold here, you yanks will really be cold. It will probably hit Charlene on Wednesday, get ready.
thank you kenboy,we are going to get hit this week as well with more bad weather.
so i will leave the lights on and hope for the very best.
retta
We are suppose to get it starting Sunday night/Monday morning. Brrrrrr
Come on Spring!! Want winter to waddle on out.
Charlene
that's great news, any sign of life is always a good thing, you're right come on Spring
Hugs Elizabeth
Retta, I leave my lights on all the time, when the Brugs & other plants go to the basement, I turn the light's on & leave them
on all winter 24/7
Ken, wow, you're getting hit hard, I am glad you have your hoop house
Crit, Brrrr is right, Friday the weather man says we'll get 2 inches of snow, I am so glad I have a basement
I envy you all that have greenhouses and basements. I keep my plants in my game/sun room. It is on the NW corner of the house and has windows on the north and west side. There is lots of light that comes in all day, but some of my plants are on the wall on the east, so get indirect light. I have such a 'thing' about leaving lights on when you aren't in the room, I don't know if I could bring myself to leave lights on all the time. LOL
Just ignore it and it won't bother you at all. i have one on for some sundews...
My brug lights are on for 16 hours a day. They are on a timer. I can't remember where I heard it but somewhere I was told that it isn't good for plants to have 24/7 light. That they need a nightime to rest. I wonder if that is true.
My lights are on 18 hours a day, sometimes 24 hours a day, the snowbanks , pncream and maya especially love the extra lights, and I think that is why I am getting Y's. I feed them and water them and all, of course, since they are growing. I am braced for the winter that is headed our way. Really looking good there Elizabeth. I have a huge Cherub for you. I am glad CG is doing well. Charlene I love the fact you grow those in a green house that is so cool.
mstish I heard that too.. but so far, this year, I haven't had any bad things happen from too much light. this isn't the brug room. This is the East wall of the main growing room, where the black eyed susan vine and tropical hibiscus are blooming. There is a draft from the windows in this room, even with bubble wrap over them, but the lights give them extra warmth , and it is heated, but I have the vents blocked off. Hubby lets me pay the extra to keep the lights on, but he worrys constantly about a fire. I don't.
Crit, we are suppose too get 2 inches of snow, this week-end, just when you think it's over here comes more snow& cold
weather
Charlene, How are your sun dews doing, one pant I can't keep alive are the pitcher plants, they look really good when I first buy them, then they dry up & die on me
Debra, look at you Girl, your basement set up looks Great, after looking at all your Basement photo's, it got me in Gear
too make me mine look better, I will love that Cherub
Retta, Girl what you homemade was Awesome, I recieved it yesterday, I have already started using it, Thank you so much
I'll have too start you a special Brug, so when the weather is right, I can send you a rooted Brug
Elizabeth
