I took this video of a bunch of tomatoes that were planted in may, never watered and tasted in september. You can hear from many people there talking about how good they are.
This is a huge way to consume less: consume less water by just being smart about how you plant your garden! This also gives you the freedom to go on vacation for two weeks without having to arrange for somebody to come and water your stuff!

to get the best tasting tomatoes - don't water them!
The video didn't say how hot the weather became. Last summer we had eighty one days of 90F+ temperatures in a row!
When our August water bill arrived I told hubby to stop watering because I felt we had reached the point of diminished return. Most of the tomatoes died, but the pole and bush beans kept right on producing! To my surprise, those tomatoes that survived started to produce more tomatoes once the weather cooled down in late September.
