thank you.........now that you pointed it out, i remember watching sheriff john when i was a kid. forgot about him singing the birthday cake/candle song. does anyone remember the name of the guy that had something to do with trains, did a red light green light thing with drinking milk (i think)?
Thought For The Day #10
Abe Lincoln said...'whatever you are, be a good one.'
Happy Birthday Karen!
The guy with the trains was Engineer Bill.
Engineer Bill, indeed !
(We're showing our age here !!!)
Probably someone else said this already, now it bears repeating. "Today is the oldest I've ever been". And I so love/hate my age now. Retired with time to do whatever I want, however very much neglecting some things that I need to do, hence love/hate.
Gosh...are we all about the same age?? (Old fogies??) Remember that phrase? Much better than others I have heard...LOL!!
Red light take a pill, Green light drink your milk....hahaha!!!I remember Sheriff John too. Remember the Crusader Rabbit cartoons?
Now that we have the time and space to garden, do we have the strength?? So many parts have broken down and been replaced....for some of us, anyway.....
Karen ~ I hope you had a nice birthday. I suppose now any birthday we have should be valued as nice.....
Crusader rabbit, another one i havent thought of in forever.
you have hit exactly on my problem, i have the time and space, but not the strengh. i am trying to make myself do a little more each day than i did the day before if i can.
and you are so right about having a birthday, any at this age is nice. to me every day i wake up is a gift.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back

I'm so enjoying the little things at this point in my life, wild birds, plants growing day by day. It's all so very joyous. Who knew 20 + years ago that these things could bring so very much happiness? I'm so very, very grateful!
Shermie,
Wishing you a very Happy Belated Birthday!
Loved the quote about the darkroom evelyn.
Does anyone remember the cartoon with Poindexter? Might have been an L.A. thing.

i remember felix the cat having an enemy named poindexter, i think. not sure, but vaguely i remember my kids watching a cartoon about a dog that had a human for a sidekick, i think it was mr. peabody and poindexter, not sure about that either. sometimes what i think i remember and what really is dont quite mesh. LOL
Maybe I'm thinking of Felix the Cat? The wonderful, wonderful cat? After awhile they all begin to run together. I kind of remember Mr. Peabody, but think it was a different cartoon. Someone will help us figure it out. : p
Me, I'm doing good to remember where I left my keys. Last night I totally forgot the lyrics to Stille Nacht, or Silent Night, sung in German. My throat was sore anyway, but next year I plan on nailing Stille Nacht, and not forgetting the words!
So off track, I'm thinking of not riding on the train anymore. LOL!
Have a pretty to share.

Trying to get DH to focus on some of the little things. This year we are having an awesome display of Fall colors (albeit much later than most of the country). Is it all this early cold nights? Whatever, I am in wonder and keep taking cell phone pix (not great with my old phone). God is gifting us with these great views.

Hey - you all are great in my book. Thanks for being here!
Evelyn
Remember the comic books? Spy VS Spy, Superman, Mighty Mouse, the whole Disney family, Archie and Veronica, Casper the Friendy Ghost...what else??
Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Hi and Lois, Dick Tracy...(I think some of these were comic STRIPS vs. books.)
I forgot all about Little Lulu !
There was another comic strip about a little girl who had whiskers for hair...instead of long hair. She reminded me of this strange girl who lived down the block from us.
Does anyone remember that one ?
Here is a good poem:
Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner, yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir," "Jim died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.
Remember to always say what you mean.
If you love someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself.
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you. Because when you decide that it is the right time it might be too late.
Seize the day.
Never have regrets.
And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, for they
have helped make you the person that you are today.

Great poem!

Loved, loved that poem. In these days I finally got on Facebook and have been able to tell in detail what so many peeps from my past have meant to my life.
As I get older I find this to be such a blessed experience to say thank you in detail what these dear ones have meant to me.
Hey all,
Been so busy I missed the fun.
Thanks Lily. : - )
Sorry Jasperdale, I kind of remember that comic strip. Can't remember the girl with the weird hair's name though.
My favorite, was always Mad Magazine. But I saved up my weeding money and bought Batman & Robin, The Fantastic Five, and Wonder Woman comics when I could find them. We'd share them with our siblings, so it all depended on which ones they'd already bought. : - )
EB#2 always bought Mad magazine. Later on, we'd buy those TEEN IDOL magazines. LOL, and once I found my Gma's True Romance magazines. Still can't figure out why they embarrassed her so. It's not like I found a stash of Playboy or something. : - )
Evelyn, you help make this a fun thread, too! : - )
QG, loved the poem.
Nicely said, kwanjin. Good to remember too! : - )
dillansnana, so that's what you meant! Now I get it! : - )

Well, just chime in when ya get a chance. I'll start things off today, almost where I ended 'em last night.

Okay, one exception at least, to the above. My Grandpa's rocking chair got me to lots of hugs and cuddles and the sense of being loved completely. No worries there, but good memories. : - )
Okay, let's try this one.

kwan,
I really loved her, aka Gilda Radner, one of the best commediennes of our time, in my humble opinion. Gosh, I was heartbroken when she died, and I can only imagine Gene Wilder (her DH) was too. The Golden Age of SNL. Sigh . . . .

Loved Gilda Radner, read her autobiography, made me very sad for all she went through.
Love you all so much, you're so very special and real!
Sylvia
This past weekend I went to a garage sale and there was one of those really old framed works of stitchery (like needlepoint ot something like that...) that said,
"Some day my ship will come in...and with MY luck, I'll be at the airport".
I think you're pretty wonderful too, Sylvia, and yep, I read her biography too. : - )
Shermie, you always crack me up! : - )
JasperDale, I think it was some new Needlepoint, but goodness, how I laughed when I read what it said. : - )

Gilda was a rare individual and is greatly missed around our house. We quote her quite often.

This one came thanks to my two boys, who bring such humor home from school with them. :)
Along with all those germs too! : - )
Great little rhyme, Bookerc, and it does sound like snot, when spoken. LOL! Good One! Tell the kids they made me laugh, okay?
Can't argue with you kwan. I thought the world of Gilda's talent, her timing, her ability to focus, and her drive to succeed. I still miss her. : - (

The world's forests need to be seen for what they are...giant global utilities, providing essential services to humanity on a vast scale. Rainforests store carbon, which is lost to the atmosphere when they burn, increasing global warming. The life they support cleans the atmosphere of pollutants and feeds it with moisture. They help regulate our climate.
