I answered that above. Go to bed.
Plant Propagation part XXV based on my own experience
hmmm... where is dave???? there he is no thats not him well we will have to start turning over soemrocks to see where he is hiding.....
not much to say at the moment.... today is suposed to get all the way to 58 ...wow ...heat wave....tropical heat wave....
spent the morning inputting info for my plants. kim wants me to keep track of it all. funny thing is I am not really sure its going to make all that much of a difference. but 3 1/2 hours of going through my paypal account and well I am cross eyed to say the least.
last night was a toss and turn night so its time for lunch a short nap and then outside to play in the dirt.
sounds like we had fun last night. Linda I would love to see the fake snow. it hit me as extreamly funny.
Dave
OH Linda, how I would love to send you guys some real snow. Making fake snow is just wrong!!! :)
It has actually warmed up here a little. to about 25 degrees. Yep tropical heat wave here also. Must enjoy it because sounds like it won't last too long. Will enjoy as long as possible. Can't play in dirt, snow is about 2 ft deep. So it is back to quilting and Storm. Lee
Lee!! Here it comes. It is 42 here right now!! The snow is melting. Has been for 2 days now. The LOW tonight is going to be 32!! Think about it! After how cold it has been, this is great.
I will send you some of what I have left Linda. Only about 6 inches. It is pretty wet and heavy, but it is real.
Lee, she has to take what she can get.
Wow, I am finally finished. I got angry with my housekeeper and told her not to come this week. Stupid me. I had the pork to make, which I did yesterday, the veggie soup, chicken to cook off for Barney , bird cages to clean.........and I sure did miss her, but I will not admit it. LOL She made me so angry a few weeks ago I cut her back to every two weeks instead of every week. She was taking advantage of me and I was not born yesterday. When I think she has learned a lesson, I will tell her to come back weekly, in the meantime she can do without the extra money. I do not mind the work when I feel good, in fact, I love it.
Where is Dave? I am getting worried. I am sitting here drinking a glass of merlot and trying to decide what to have for dinner. I am really almost too tired to eat anything other than salad, maybe some of my fresh soup which is not yet cool. Hmmmmm. Yummy.
When I taught the pre school Sunday School Class..........shut up Jenette.......I really did.
I used to use animals and plants to teach some classes....they are really smart at that age. I loved it. It is easy to teach about God and beautiful things.
Took all my plants off of eBay and Dave's Garden. I am shipping two orders Monday and then I am finished until March, or when the weather breaks. I had one of the young men who works on tropicals at the GH down the road and he said my plants look great and I am to just keep up the same methods I use now and I will be fine. I was pleased he took the time to look at them for me. I was upset with some of the cuttings and brown edges, but he said that is o.k. the new growth is coming and it is fine.
I am so happy to be done with the shipping and packing, etc. over the winter it is so difficult to judge who is having what kind of weather, so I just shut down for a few months. It gives me a break. I will be cutting cactus when they are finished blooming. I want an EAster cactus so that is my next project. Later. Love and Hugs. Stay well and warm and please tell me how in the H do you walk a puppy to house break them in 2 ft. of snow. Oh my God. JB
Well, it is a darn heat wave here, too! The snow has actually melted and including last night's rain, it was a low of 41°, last night and now it is 46°. So I suppose we will get more of the colder storms later, but it is always a surprise....especially in November. So I guess that rain is considered to be a fall activity, rather than snow. It is so muddy out there I do not want to go out and pull up the dead tomatoes, peppers, squash and eggplant. I planted the squash too late this year, so I will know to plant them earlier next year. Hopefully it will be warm in May or June. The cabbage and broccoli out there, however is looking quite well. I think they will take cold temps...up to a point. Anyone else out there with veggies growing during winter? Anyone have a cold frame? I have been giving it some thought.
Sounds to me like somebody cut off their nose to spite their face! yuk yuk yuk. lol
You taught WHAT?? LOL, to who? Sure, yeah. Believe it.
Dave checked in. He doesn't like getting in the middle of our p****** and m*******. LOL, figure that one out JB. Have another Merlot.
Isn't it great tho Evelyn? Mud instead of ice? Brussel sprouts are another one like the broccoli and cabbage that like the cold weather. I have heard that it makes the flavor better after the cold weather.
Did they freeze? I don't know about the cabbage if it froze.
Well ladies, let's go find Dave.

I am with Jeanette, JB. You did what!!! when!!!!! Ok so I believe you also, just needed to vent there for a moment. I am over it :)whew !!!!
I know, you have to take it as you can get it, but come on now, fake snow jeeze!!! Sorry couldn't help myself. My bad.
You are right Jeanette, wait for it---wait for it---Yep you are right. Sno is trying to melt. Got up to 38 today, and it actually did melt from the roof.
JB--You walk him very lightly HE He He!!!Actually, you would really laugh if you had seen DH out shoveling paths for him. But honestly, it is a little over a week, and he is asking to go out. I have never had one this young try so hard . Sure he misses, but it is our fault because we weren't watching closely enough. He loves the snow, burrows down in the banks and tunnels. Funniest thing I have seen in a long time. His name is perfect for him. DH has been trying to get pictures of it, but so far hasn't had any luck. Will post one if he ever catches it right. ttyal, Lee
Lee, I think that pup is going to make your winter go a lot faster. They are fun. By next summer he is not going to be a little pup any more, but a longer legged one.
Sorry JB, we can't gang up on you, no matter how tough you are you are still little. I saw your picture. May be little but tough as nails huh? LOL
So, what did you have for dinner? Couldn't believe it. You cooked a big pot of soup and didn't have anything for dinner? You better beg your housekeeper to come back. Maybe she would wrestle the chicken away from Barney for your dinner.
I had something really cruel but funny to say but I decided not to say anything at all.. Good Night....Sharon. Yes, JB, it was about you and Bible studies you wonderful lady. Love you all.
Oh well, what can I say...................I really did teach Sunday School and although I was a Lutheran when I did it, I also belong to the Catholic Ladies Bible Study. I attend when I get the chance. They make a morning of it and I do not usually have that kind of time. It is fun and the women are all ages and nice people. I was and still am a believer, just not an active church goer much anymore because and don't laugh, I get anxiety when I have to be among people in a closed in area..........darndest thing, I must always sit on the end seat. It is claustraphobia ( I can not spell it) I think. I enjoy Mass because when I go there are few people there and it is short. LOL. Anyhow, as you get older the Lord knows you well enough to accept you as you are and if by the time you hit 80 you have not yet made peace with God, forget it. LOL So much for my religion.
Today is a busy day. I have to change heaters in the GH and get ready for another deep freeze, I am shipping Monday and the temps are to be below freeZing which worries me but I want to get the plants out of here.
I will check back in later if I have time just to see of any of you smart A's are talking about me. That's o.k. because I am not one to get mad, I just get even. Love and Hugs. JB
oooooooh now you have me shakin------it's the getin' even that worries me. Really JB you know we love ya!!!
Oh Lee, I know that................just have to keep you all on your toes. Too busy now. Later.
That Lee. She's suckin' up already. You have her worried JB.
Boy, you can tell it is the middle of winter can't you? Not much to report on plants. I have a tape on growing house plants that I have been putting off looking at 'cause it is an hour long. Guess I will watch it today.
Howdy:
so did you have merlot as your supper the other night???? sounded like a great idea...lol
Cold frames are pretty easy to put together. we did one in school where we took several bales of hay and made a bx with space in the middle. then we placed the plants inside and used an old window as the cover. we also used brick's to make a vent when it got extreamly hot in there. of course you could just slide the windo and make a crack to allow excess heat to escape ... Of course this is all theoretical as I have yet to do one.
well its time to put on my elf hat and start wraping
ttyl
Dave
Could we please have a picture of you, Dave, in the Elf Hat?
I'm too busy for this. I will be back. LA LA LA I have a gazillion things to do before it snows and they said it could snow here tonight. It feels like it. D***.
Hi Everyone, Boy me mentioning that I teach a Bible study to babies was kind of like stirring the pot and then sitting back to watch it swirl. LOL
JB I think it is wonderful that you had that calling too. This will be my last year teaching it. right now the children are thee once a week, but I am requrired to be there twice. Mom has lost her eyesight and needs extra help and hubby just wants me home most of the time, so it gets to the point that 2 days a week is really hard to do. I would like to go back next year but not in "leadership". We have 300 ladies in this study and about 48 children from 6 months - 14 years. *( yes, we teach it to homeschool groups too). It is a really awesome study and sometimes it kicks my butt trying to keep up.
Dave and Lee, I will take your snow and then send you salty air in return. It has only snowed here twice in the last 15 years ( I remember because I have pics of the first time when DS was little, and last year I still have nightmares of being out at 3 am because it was snowing and it might melt before morning. LOL It is fun when you have a kid to enjoy it so much, but I am not a cold weather fan.
I've been working in my seedbox, but today I kind of took it easy. I put together a few packages that needed to go out and then I just kind of pittled around doing nothing. ( and yet talking all day. LOL)
My uncle stopped by the other day and brought me 2 huge bags of umbrella palm seeds. Anyone want some?
Gotta go, I'm thinking a cup of coffee and a good book will entertain me here in just a few minutes,.
Sea Ya
Ok you all know how dumb I am, what are unbrella palms? How long do the seeds take to germinate. How long before they are actually a plant, not seedlings. Thanks,
Lee
Well, I was belly laughing so loud, Vern came over expecting me to be looking at something besides DG and JB, LEE, JNETTE, LINDA. I told him you had to be there. I love everyone's sense of humor.
I talk to our heavenly father everyday but I do not go to church. I talk to the birds, the flowers, the trees and all his wondrous gifts. He knows what I do wrong and the many things I do right. That is what my goal is every day. Thanks you so much for the great laugh....
Laughing out loud add years to your life. OMG, Sharon Winter lives on.
Snow never arrived, thank you Lord. Today will be a very busy one because it is to rain and possible snow later after the front moves through.........and sub freezing temps for the next week. That did it. I am cancelling all my orders I have ready to go. I am refunding the money and not shipping again until April 1. That is it. I can not even attempt to ship these little guys in this weather. Groan and Moan..........oh well.
Will check in later, I am the cook today, so off I go. Love and Hugs.
Sharon, you are just like me. My church is outdoors, not in a fabricated dwelling. I used to love climbing on my horse, taking off for hours at a time and discussing things with Him. I feel good now that I know I am not alone in the way I think. Of course, now it is always on foot, with my babies. Talking to plants and so forth is great!! I do so miss the horses tho.
Lee
Sharon and Lee, I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with your church! I know a lot of people who believe you are required to be on the building every minute the doors are open, but that is not me. Many years I went to church out of doors, or in my yard or on the beach........
The umbrella palm is a type of bog plant. here is a link.....
http://www.your-garden-ponds-center.com/umbrella-palm.html
and a pic.
It is raining here today, so I believe I will work in the studio a little bit and maybe get something made for Christmas. Then again, I may just sit and listen to it rain.
Hope everyone has a great day, Linda
Good Lord I think I am going over to the Prayer forum so I can get my daily dose. There isn't enough on this darned garden forum. Can't we possibly outdo each other as to who goes to church more often? Or, who is kneeling at the base of a tree?
Just in case someone is interested in a plant on here, other than to pray to it of course, I have s Pink Princess philodendron I bought off of ebay and I think it came right out of the tropical jungle. It had huge leaves on 2 foot long stems. Well I got it last winter and the leaves froze a little. So, off they came. Now, after I almost gave up on it, it is getting little leaves at every node where a leaf had come off of.
Does anyone know if these plants would do best with a lot of light or very little light? Fertilizer or not? If so what kind?
Easy BESSY, just idle banter. We already established we get off track and then back on in our time. It always returns to plants.
I see some little winged creatures on the Brugs you sent me, so I will make up a concoction from Jerry's Elixers to get rid of them. One is leaved out quite a bit more than the other. So I hope it is not a sign of bad things to come. I fertilized them yesterday to see if that helps. Could be the bugs.
Ibartoo I go to church too. When you lived here did you ever know of the Vineyard? They may have one in your area too. It is where I feel the closest to God, when I am singing with the other people. The church is full of hypocrites so one more won't hurt is my theory.
We are having odd weather, unusually low temps and then unusually high. Today is like 72 degrees I bet.

Amen,,,,,,Amen......la la la la la la la la la la
Philodendron erubescens 'Pink Princess' likes good light for maximum coloration. You can grow in bright indirect light indoors or shadh location outside. Prefers moiset but well=drained soil and some humidity. As a vining plant it should be grown on a stake or trellis. Anything else you want to know? Here are pieces of the top of mine in water rooting.
Sorry the lighting is not good. Took it with my phone.
Tree business sucks today again. Gosh, this is really terrible. We sold one third of what we did last year on this weekend. Tomorrow it is to rain all day. What a bummer. Oh well, think happy thoughts old one or you will turn to drink.
My kids came from PA to help because we are usually so busy.......well instead we ate, drank and laughed. My Grandson is going to be 17 the day before Christmas so I bought him a tiny cake and put candles on it since he will not be here on his birthday. When we get together we are so bad and we were outside , windblown and now I am tired. Have a good evening everyone.
Jnette, you have got to quit making me laugh out loud. Vern keeps coming over to see what site I am on never expecting it to be you guys.
OK, we are done with church. I do like to know who goes and who does not. Just like if we have a Democrat on here. LOL. Just trying to be funny, please do not get mad.
I am getting off of here and doing an hour or two on the garage. 70 degrees so it is sinful to be in the house on the couch.
Vern and I had a silent argument yesterday. First disagreement we have had in a long time. No words were exchanged but he knew I was no happy. I should do that more often. No sports on the TV last night. He kept asking what I wanted to watch.
OK ok ok--plants it is. Heard of the Prayer plant, leaves fold up???? How do you find seeds for it? Or do you start them from cuttings?Sorry couldn't stop my fingers from typing that:) :) :(
Nothing new here, except Storm is finding all kinds of plants to dig out of the snow. Guess Spring cleaning will be easy this year. Probably new beds to plant LOL
Take care and enjoy the weather, Spring is only a few months away. Need to start thinking about what to grow so when he decides to devour them, they won't hurt him. :-()
Lee
No snow here, but who knows what tomorrow brings in California's high desert. If and when we get snow it usually melts in a day or less. I moved here from Ohio on Dec. 1st of 1973 and right after that it snowed like 3 feet or something. What would crack you guys back east up is that if there is snow flakes here for more than 1/2 hour straight, everyone turns the tv and radio on because they usually cancel school, since no bus drivers are trained to drive in snow and ice and nobody has snow tires here.
Dawn, I remember that snow! it was hysterical. We had a little white poodle and all you could see was her eyes and the tip of her nose. I don't know how long we got out of school, but I remember it well.. The snow days are like that here too. Nobody drives in the snow. It suits me though, when it is snowy, I don't want to leave my comfy spot.
I like that pink princess philodendron. If anyone has cuttings or seeds, I will gladly trade something for it.
Lee, you're too funny. I've never managed to keep a prayer plant alive long enough to propagate it.
JB sorry your weekend wasn't as busy as it should be.
It rained here all day and DH wanted to go get a Christmas tree, but didn't want to go out in the rain. He hates the rain worse than a cat hates a swimming pool. Then DS wanted to go up to MB and I told them both if we were going that far, then I had a few things to pick up. (SO NOT a good idea!) Oh well, I got what I needed ( some of it) and I won't go out again until I am actually shopping for something in particular. Everything else, I may just do online. LOL I hate to shop and I really hate to shop in a crowd.
We have officially had our first killing frost now, so I guess everything else will revolve around our last frost date. I want to winter sow a few things, but mostly, I am planning to plant a couple of seed baggies a day and take cuttings to stick in sphagnum moss but the rest of my work will be done indoors.
Gotta go, time to irritate DS until he does as he was told........
Sea ya.
Speaking of that...........Jenette, what did you do to Mary...she left us and went to Facebook.
You are so bad .......but I lubs ya. It is after seven and if I can make this old body move, i am going to bed. I am still hungry and my glass is empty so I must just do the next best thing. Put the dog out to go and then retire to my wonderful bed. Maybe I will eat a pretzel.
Good nite all.
And Jen, last time I was at Mass, I was kneeling and got a cramp in my leg and oh my God, you should have seen me try and be quiet and not stand up and cuss during the
service. Let me tell you, after a certain age, leg cramps are a b****. Especially in bed and church. LOL... Nite all.
JB--it's the age thing again. Maybe it is a good thing you forgot. I just know it would have been life inspiring!!! :) ;-)
Lee
Why is Jnette being blamed for chasing Mary off. I think I did it and Jnette just joined in to finish the kill. Enough said about that.
I worked on the garage today for about three + hours. Made great progress. I had my i pod boom box blaring and I was in the grove. I love it when I get in the grove. I just keep working, do not get tired and just DO IT. But Vern came out at 5pm and said it was time to hang it up.
In a couple more major hours of organization, I will be able to get my SUV back in the garage.
Dave or anyone, do you know what a canna seed looks like. I have many pods. I guess I should break one open. I may have the seed and think it is a pod.
It showed on the National news that Washington State was having a blizzard. Hopefully, not in Jnette's area.
JB, I was at the Rose Society pot luck the other evening and during a speech, I got a cramp on the back of my thigh. I thought I was going to have to cut off my leg before the guy finished his speech.
Lee, you are so funny and so bad.....
Linda, I do not understand what MB means. Give me a description how you put together your cuttings in the moss, please.
Later friends. Sharon
Now I popped on here for a few minutes and my husband will wonder why I am laughing. Y'all crack me up!
I must get back to sorting seeds. Today it was almost 60° and it is supposed to be warm again tomorrow. Now that is what I call a heat wave! (And I thought it was warm at 55°!)
Something is either wrong with my jaw, or a tooth. I may have to go in to see the dentist soon. I have him check that tooth every time I go in, and he says that nothing's wrong, or, "Shall I send you to a specialist?" Wrong on both counts, but maybe I will have to go to that specialist if he still can't find anything wrong. So I have been putting on a cold pack...seems to help a bit.
Have a great weekend everyone.
Evelyn, go see your internist. It could be sinus, ear problem, thyroid or something else. Pain in teeth is many times not teeth. At least the tooth specialist would know that. Mother Sharon has spoken....
Could be TMJ too. Do you clench or grind your teeth?
Ok you guys, I have been gone all day. Bob had to go to Idaho to get cigs and whiskey. Washington has the highest taxes in the country on the "Sin" items. Almost $8 a pack.
So, now I have to go clear back to where Dawn decided to call me Bessie after a cow. Thanks Dawn, now treat those winged gnats with alcohol and Neem oil.
JB, where did you get the piece of the Pink Princess that you are trying to root? Is it the top out of a larger plant, or just a start off of one? And eating, drinking and laughing are much better for you than working. Takes the pressure off of having those darned trees out there not being cut.
Lee Prayer plants bloom. Hence the seeds I would imagine. They are ugly blossoms.
Sharon, you and Vern are weird. I have never had what I call a "silent argument". When I argue I want people to hear me.
Linda, what is MB? I want to know too.
JB, wash your mouth out with soap!! Terry may have missed it but I didn't.
If you are going to blame me for running Merry off, then you owe me. Sharon is right. It took two of us.
JB, you got cramps in your leg at Mass 'cause you were thinking and praying for bad thoughts about me. Serves you right. I get those leg cramps all the time at night and it is poor blood circulation in my legs. I need vitamin B12 shots and my doctor took me off of them because he didn't think I needed them. I am going to go start them again.
Our blizzard is heavy wet snow because it is so warm. Bob cleaned off the decks today and an hour later you couldn't tell he had done them. BTW Sharon, how was your Son's family's Thanksgiving dinner with their new neighbors?
Evelyn, don't screw around with that pain in your jaw. Find out what it is. I don't want to scare you, but the post office guy up here died from an infection in his mouth from a bad tooth. It is close to the brain. Get your butt to a dr. and find out what it is.
Ok, you all, bad asses all, ttyl
Oh my goodness, you are one bad "lady".
Todd and his family had a great Thanksgiving. Heather, his wife, was the Regional manager for Jamboree, which is a children clothing store. This is the first Christmas she has not worked in over 10 years.
She called me and told me she always wanted to make Christmas cookies and deliver them to her friends. Well marrying Todd and moving to Spokane made that dream come true. She no longer works and stays home and takes care of baby Luke and plays at being a stay at home mother. She loves it.
Well, she baked the cookies, with her mother's help via cell phone. Love that free long distance. Then they went Christmas caroling and delivered the cookies. And Todd sang a solo. I said, "What". She said he has a great voice and they had a great time. My son is 47 and I am just funding out he has a great voice. Do feel guilty about knowing that. YES. The neighbors have talked to them and next year they are going to do a progressive Christmas caroling, cookie exchange. Do one family, they join you and you go one. They love Spokane and now I can see why. Thank you Heavenly Father giving my son and his family such a great move. Can you hear me smiling.
Jnette, Bob needs to give up smoking. It is very bad for him and also bad for you. I know, I use to smoke and I loved it BUT it is not good for you. Smile, we could be talking about church. LOL...
Nope Sharon, nobody knows that better than an ex-smoker except for a smoker. They know, I did, but it takes something pretty drastic to make them quit.
So glad that Todd and his family have found a nice area. Good move!! And isn't that nice that Heather is enjoying her time at home. Let's hope it keeps up.
Todd must practice at work. LOL, wonder how his patients like it. Probably appreciate it. Sure beats most things you hear in a dr. office.
