Ok following this will be my post for tonight but more to following tomorrow
Dave
Hi all:
I had a great holiday managed to spoil the grand babies and eat way too much, but for me it was no where near TG dinners of the past. in the past I would eat at least 3 plates full and I held myself at 1 plate.
My BIL Dave joined us for the trip so we set up an area in the back of the explorer with a blow up matress and pillows. The best way to to travel I have experienced. Managed to sleep all the way there and back. Dave did some of the driving which helped kim best of all.
well judging from the garden out back we hit freezing over the weekend the tomatoes are toast.
Linda its great to hear you are doing better. Its funny you can get some cheap labor to do your planting. Most of my labor looses interest after an hour or two and seems to wander away without notice.
Its a good time to do azalea's and beauty berry cuttings they like to just sit there and form the preroots so when the temps warm up a little the will start rooting. I am hopeing to do a detailed discussion on hardwood cuttings next week. i like to do boxwood and other woodies this time of year.
I did want to coment on the christmas cactus left and fogotten about. I think its a dormant response of the plant. once they experience the drought and then are watered as needed they flower as long as the day length is correct. This is my opinion and based on my own experiece with christmas cactus and my education that managed to stick and is available to access.
ok now my comment on wally world. its their practice and business plan to move into a small town sell their stuff as "lost leader" to drive the competion out of business. Once the small in town home grown mom and pop businesses close down then they raise their prices since they are they are the only game in town. i have seen this in several small towns here in oklahoma.
Do I shop wally world? yes but we live in a bigger town where they are kept in check by other big box stores. We do shop our local stores as well expecially for groceries. we have found the local beef to be better than their's (my opinion). We do load up once a month on canned goods but as for other stuff we do like everyone else and shop on line. I am a big fan of delivery to the house.
well more to follow tomorrow.
Dave
I am here and want to say I am sorry if I offended anyone. I won't complain about small town Montana anymore.
It is snowing again and roads are being closed again. Will spring ever come? I know it is midwinter, but enough is enough don't you think.
We retired here because of my Mom needing help. Most of the economy depends on ranches, farms, oil fields, and the largest employers in town are the local Hospital, and Walmart.

Lee:
you go ahead and vent. if anything you should be admired for going to a small town to take care of your mom. I do understand this as I have moved to a few places to get to know my family while they were alive. I now am in tulsa because of my parents. they live about 15 min away and both seem to be ok at the moment. they are in their late 60's and I hate to think what might come to pass in the future. My mom was ill in her early childhood and on into her 20's untill she finally leveled out on the health front. I don't know what all the details are or were but i hate to think what the toll will be on her now that she has reach the golden years of her life.
Dave
Well, I am in my late 60s, my DH is in his late 70s. And Dave, we do not consider ourselves old. Neither does Jnette, Lee or JB. Boy, you are in big trouble. LOL.....
The Queen of Sheba did not freeze. I want to take a lot of cuttings because everyone wants one. I think I will try 3 different ways and see what works.
We had a good day. I made a delicious chicken soup and hockey pucks. The hockey pucks were suppose to be cornmeal muffins but I forgot the baking powder. I will make some more tomorrow. Going to be windy and cold tomorrow.
I am going to the post office tomorrow to pick up passport paperwork. I am going to go to the Iris convention in Canada end of May. Then when I get home I think I will work in the garage with the garage door closed.
If the wind stops and the sun comes out I have a large amount of plants to cut back. Later friends. Love Sharon
Boy Dave, you just slipped right over here didn't you? Seems nobody was tricked tho. I guess you are only as old as you feel Dave. Some days you are older than others and some younger.
Lee, I am sorry if we hurt your feelings. You can b**** about little towns or anything else all you want. You did not offend anybody. Promise.
Here is a picture I took off of my livingroom deck:
Actually took it thru the sliding glass door so I cut off the right side.
Jnette, both photos are beautiful. Son and his family minus Luke went skiing today.
It won't be long 'till Luke goes too. Good to start them young I suppose.
Yes, we are suppose to get another 9 inches tonight.
No hurt feelings here.
We now have about 9-12" and still snowing. Will have to call breeder today and cancel Storm's flight. The interstate is really bad, they are recommending travel only if you have to, not closed, but.......
I don't think I will ever get that little bugger home. I guess they say, the harder is to get something, the more you appreciate it. Will sure be true in this case. Doesn't look promising for the next week or so. Heck, he will be half grown before we even meet him.ttyal, Lee
That's too bad Lee. But better safe than sorry. Don't know what you would do with a little guy like that stuck in a snowbank. Bad enough for you and your h without him. I think it is a smart move for now.
I remember many years ago when I was young and foolish, driving across the state from Seattle to Spokane in the winter, across Snoqualmie Pass, and the wide open desert areas with whiteouts when you couldn't even see the where the road was. And with my daughter who was quite young. And in vehicles that weren't that reliable. Before 4 wheel drive, or even front wheel. Just my daughter and myself.
So ridiculous. Don't know what I was thinking. And I did it almost every winter.
Posts are not showing up on my home page for this forums. What the H is going on now?
I have a new customer who really bad mouthed DavesGarden Website and Market Place this past week. They will not shop here because it is so difficult to find what you want.
She found my site and emailed me privately. I am sad hearing that. I went the extra mile and sent her an extra plant, hopefully she will come back again to DG to shop.
I am so sorry to hear Stormy's arrival is still being delayed due to more snow. When it starts it just does not stop. Great for Skiing business but not good for people who just want to survive the winter.
I have beautiful pink camellias blooming in my kitchen just now. How lovely they are.
The tree business was very slow this weekend, we sold trees but nothing really exciting.
Must get to the post office with some plant shipments. Take care and hopefully I have not been blocked for some reason. JB
JB, I know that feeling....no respect. Don't let this drag you down. She/he is just the bad apple in th bunch and you just booted her out....Good for you.
JB!! I love camellias. How are they growing in your kitchen? Are they in pots in your kitchen?
Maybe that person jinxed your computer for DG. Think they could have done something to your computer so you can't get them? How are you getting our posts?
If you had been blocked you wouldn't have any part of it.
Re-boot your computer. That normally will straighten it out.
Post a picture of your camellias? Please.
Howdy:
i did not intend to offend anyone by saying any age is old. age is relative to how you take it. I guess what I was trying to say was that I wish my mom could retire now that she has reach the governments standard for retirement. Also I fear that my moms early health issues may effect her health as she gets older. as it is she now has ashma that is pretty bad but manageable. at the time she had her health issues they were doing things that would make most of us shiver from how bad it is said to be now.
Kim is 55 and I am 48 so no I don't think 60 or 70 is old. my grandfather is going to be 90 in january and he still gets around quite well especially for someone who was told by the military dr's he would not live 6 months during wwII. he was burned over 75% of his body.
I enjoy talking to him because he has seen the evolution of the automobile, to man on the moon to dvd and the internet. he survived the depression and still manages to get around pretty well. I really don't think he is old because old is how you conduct yourself. now with that said I am old because I don't get around very well and have to spend days down because of pain.
so to those who I offended I diod not mean to and I am sorry... it is my hope that its just another poking fun at me ...but the last thing I ever want to do is offend anyone here.
Dave
I think old is how I feel, and today it must be 117! It's my own fault actually, I got outside again and watered everything in the greenhouse and then whilst PRETENDING I was not already in pain, took some cuttings from some other woody shrubs. Now I feel really old ( I hurt all over) and I still have lots of work to do.
If any of you want to try camellias, I will gladly share cuttings. Almost all of mine are blooming or in bud right now. We had a very dry year and I was afraid I wouldn't get many blooms, but the show from the sasanquas and a few others has been spectacular.
These are the camellias blooming today... This one is Hanan Jiman ( I think)
This message was edited Nov 29, 2010 4:29 PM
ok I could go one, but this is the last one for now... This one is camellia Sasanqua Yuletide
Most of my Camellia Japonicas won't begin blooming for 2 or 3 months, but they are full of buds. I believe it will be a pretty spring next year.
Hope you all have a great day, Linda
This message was edited Nov 29, 2010 4:30 PM
OOOOOOH IBAR, I love them. Thanks for sharing. Mine is pink and if I have time tomorrow I wil send you pics. I have tried to root cuttings from my camellias but nothing happened. I tired water. I wonder if I could root them in soil of some kind. I would hate to have you take cuttings and me kill them. Have you ever tried to root the cuttings yourself?
Dave, if you made a comment about age or aging, either I responded and forgot what I said or I missed it. I for one was not offended and that shows because I have no clue what you are talking about. Time flies and I forget. Out of sight out of mind...You went away and I forgot anything you ever said. How is that old friend?
I must go to bed now. I am tired and I have had a very emotional day with my friend who is terminal. I had a panic attack after talking to her son. That is not good and it exhausts me. I feel tight all over and need to lay down and relax. Hate stress and anxiety. It seems to be getting worse instead of better. Too much crap going on around me to upset me.
I love peace and quiet. These people in NJ do not know how to relax. I think I should go back to PA where life is more quiet. I really would hate to leave this place. I like it here.
Anyhow, maybe tomorrow will be better. Hugs. JB
JB, I root camellias all the time. They are slow to root and kind of persnickety, but if you are patient, they root better in soil than water.
I just cut some yesterday and today to experiment with over the winter but usually they like to be cut in july and august. If you want to try some, let me know. I have about 14 known cultivars and I can't tell you how many I no longer know the names of.
When I managed a landscape nursery, I spent everything I earned on plants. We had just bought our property and needed like a zillion plants, so I did everything possible to fill that need. It was a good thing I got a discount. LOL
Oh yeah, while I was in the greenhouse, my orange colored christmas cactus was in full bloom as was a white with fuchsia tinges, then I have 2 others dark red or pink that are waiting their turn. It will be interesting to see which other cacti take their turn.
Gotta run. Need to study for tomorrow and then rest.
Have a great night everyone.
consider yourselves all squeezed.
at the moment I don't remember who or what was said and I really don't give a flying cookie...as my pain is the worst I have had in a year and I really should be in bed which is where I am going

Dave, I am so sorry you hurt so bad. Just don't know what we can do to help. Please do go to bed and stay there until it is lets up.
JB, I am sorry her son is putting you thru so much. It is very hard on you I can tell. You don't know what to tell him I am sure. How does he expect you to help? Some times life is the s****. But, it does get better. Really.
Linda the camellias are gorgeous. I don't think there are any, or not many, that will survive our weather. Many years ago my mom had one, a double dark pink in Spokane and it was beautiful. So, I know there are some that can make it. Do you have one like that you could start for me?
Dave, you are younger than my daughters. OMG. I was the one that made the comment but I was kiddy you.
JB, please take care of yourself. We need you. Sorry your friend is dying but she is probably in such mental and physical pain, that death will be good.
Lee, I sure wish you would get a break in the weather so you could get your new "Stormy".
Jnette, Todd & family had so much fun, thy want to go again next weekend. The girls and Heather go snowboarding, and Todd goes skiing. Luke stays with the baby sitter.
I went to the Dermatologist today and they burned off two spots on my right hand, two on the right lower arm and two on the top of my head. The majority of Dermatologists in the SW specialize in Skin Cancer. Good now for another year.
We are suppose to hit 28 tonight. 32 tomorrow night and then warm up to 40s. But that is what they told us two days ago that we were going to warm up. We actually had rain early yesterday morning.
The landscapers were here today for he greenbelt. It was actually quite comical. The wind was blowing in the 30s mph and the leaves were falling. And they were trying to round up the leaves. The more they picked up the more the leaves continued to fall.
Linda, have not tried Camellias but I have so many experiments going now I am overwhelmed.
I opened the garage door on the plants inside to day around 2pm. The sun was just in the right spot and warmed up the garage. Tomorrow I am going to string the Christmas lights to establish some heat. I did take hose in with the adjustable sprayer attached and gently watered each pot. I brought the other Plumeria inside. Now have both of them in the west guest room. Did not water the Plumeria.
I remade the corn bread today. Much better. Made it in a cast iron skillet. But it tastes like it needs some salt.
Dave, I am so sorry you are having so much pain. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
Later friends. We are having fun over at clean and cluttered.
Morning People, We have rain coming so today I am going to do all the paperwork I have put off for a month. I promise. The accountant is going to want things I do not have recorded, so I must do it.
Here is a picture of the April Tryst growing in a pot in my kitchen. She and her mate are sitting there looking lovely, except Tryst is the only one blooming. Gunny at the top off of her so oshe only has blooms on the lower half. Gunny's cage is on the otherside of the divider and he is out of his cage and walks on the divider and eats the buds off the camellias. D*** bird.
I have two more pictures to show you of Christmas Cactus stock plants in bloom. Up next.
Very pretty JB. Love the camellia.
Jnette, the closest I can get to you with a camellia is zone7, possible 1 that will go to zone 6, but it is iffy at best. I'd be glad to root one for you to try though.
JB if you are going to sell any of your christmas cacti after the season, please let me know.
Dave, I am sorry you're in pain. I understand about the cold front, it seems to have set off the nerves that end under my shoulder blades today. In other words, it is on its way to cold here too.
Hope everyone has a great day, linda
Yes jb very pretty when all else is just turned brown and gone dormant.
I kind of figuired it was a jab but I was having an off day and thought I might have offended someone here and thats the last thing I ever want to do.
I am on just enough to answer emails post and get a bite then back to bed. we hit a balmy 27 I think...lol well its a wind chill of 20 degrees and like 45 with out the wind chill. good thing I set up my shots already. I was wondering if I might skip them this year but monday and today removed all doubt as to if I needed them. this has been the worst spell so far this year. so I try to sleep as much as possible.
I did manage to figuire out that I am buying a couple of 48 ft self contained heat cables for my make shift hoop houses over the veggie garden's raised beds. I can do 25 flats in each bed, which boils down to almost $800.00 in sales next spring.
I was toying with the idea of doing 6 pack flats also but I don't think there is much profit in them. does anyone know what the wholesale price of 6pk flats are or even retail price. i really missed the boat by not checking that info. oh well live and learn
well its off to my pillow and bed for round 4 of trying to forget the pain.
Take care have a wonderfull day and stay out of trouble
Huggs
Dave
Linda, they are still babies and this is the first blooms they have had, that is why I was so excited. I had never seen them bloom. I will be taking cuttings in a few months and when I do I will let you know. I want them to get over blooming and transplant them into larger pots and then I will know what is going on with them. I love that red one. It has such a velvety color. Just beautiful. I have one more that is in bud and I have no idea what color it will be so we will see in a few days.
Glad you like them.
Is our baby Dave in pain, I am so sorry, this weather will not help Sweet Dave. It started to drizzle about an hour ago and it is very windy. The temps are not too cold, just nasty, wet and chilly. Take care and rest. Can you increase your pump without a physician or nurse?
If so, just be careful. That stuff is nasty and I am sure I do not have to tell you that. It plays tricks with the old brain. LOL We need your brain functioning. Love ya. JB
Dave, know I am thinking of you and praying the pain goes away. Just be careful and know all of us are with you.
I'm not sure what kind of 6pacs you are looking at, if it is annuals, Wally sells for about 2.57 for the small 6's. At our local greenhouse they are about 5.00 if they even sell them by the 6pac. They usually don't . Hope this helps, if not, disregard.
BTW I for one, wouldn't take offense about anything you or others say. It is hard to joke via writing, but I use the smily face thingy to try and let everyone know I am joking..
Keep your chin up and get well soon.
Lee
I am considering purchasing some heat cables for my starter plants. Hubby is good with electrical challenges. Can these be made yourself? If not, where's the best place to get good prices.
Hey Lee, if I lived where you live I would never have a smile on my face or use a smily face. God woman, the snow must be up to your u know what! Love ya. JB
Update Miles City..........Bright sunshine..10-12 inches of snow on ground...Temp 18 above...Roads almost clear but slick in spots!!!!
Stormy is on the plane, at this time probably on the ground in Seattle, waiting to be transfered to the flight to Billings, arrival time in Billings, midnight. Mark (DH) in tucked in his motel room awaiting his arrival. He went by self and all is well except my guilty feelings. Sooo both will be home tomorrow early afternoon. I am sure all of you can guess what comes next :) :0 :) :) :)
plop plop fizz fizz OH what a relief it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs all around, Lee
We all will drink to Mark!! Good for him! We had good roads yesterday, bare and wet. Hopefully that is what he will get on the way home. Takes about that long.
Goodness that Stormy is a late night traveler. Midnight!! How long a flight is that? I'll bet that new Senator Tester you have is flying him. I see the good Senator on the TV right now. I REALLY like him.
I wanna see pictures!!
Hi:
no I can't change the pump without going in to see the dr.
That helps a lot to know what they are selling for it puts them back on the possible grow list. the jumbo 6's will run me about $7.00 just in plugs and supplies so that leaves about 5 dollars in profit so it might be worth it.
The heat cables are available at
http://www.harrisseeds.com/storefront/p-3551-heat-cable-48-ft-soil.aspx
or
http://www.littlegreenhouse.com/accessory/heaters3.shtml
I am starting with the self contained ones with a thermostat built in but I will switch to the heavy duty ones next year. It seems i am on the way to getting my system refined.
Dave
That poor pupper. I bet he is so frightened...........or maybe he is calm and collected. But how happy he will be to see his new daddy. I am so glad you are finally going to get him. I hope he likes cold weather. Gads woman, it is cold out there. LOL
Today we have winds gusting in the 50 range, rain blowing sideways. Looks like a hurricane and temps are in the 60s. I am praying the wind does not blow out my GH doors. It is coming from the Southeast and that is not a good thing for the doors.
I postponed my chiropractor appt. today until Friday because I do not want to drive in this mess. Not a necessary trip and weather is blowing things all over the place.
I am hoping I can get some paperwork done today and then tomorrow I will run. Stay well and dry and warm. Love ya. JB
LOL, the best thing about this snow is that with the snow piled about 15 inches high on the deck railings the cat doesn't go after the birds. Actually, that is the only good thing about it. I have the guy coming to plow the driveway again today. Another $40.
Bob's mom had a massive stroke Monday. She is in the ICU and they are talking brain-dead. They have her on oxygen until Bob tells them what to do. He left yesterday morning for Seattle. It took him 10 hours for a trip that normally takes 6 to 7 hours. He was lucky tho, he got thru the pass just before they closed it for avalanches. But the more he drives in Seattle, the more convinced he is that he wants to stay over here.
He has a lot to do. She is Catholic so I guess it is probably a full-fledged funeral. Then she has her personal property to do something with. All of this is hard to do 400 miles away. So, he may be there a while. Too bad. He could see how it is to have the snow instead of the rain. LOL Looks like it is going to be a pretty long winter.
OH Jeanette, I am so sorry. Please tell Bob my thoughts are with him. Having been through it so recently, I know how he feels. Wish we were there to help him, at least with hugs.
Storm has arrived, is really a beautiful little shepherd. Loves Mark to pieces, has bonded well to him. Good thing, since it is his pup. Seems like Storm and Barney will be best friends, Freddy is more reserved, almost the opposite that I thought would happen.
Anyway, our thoughts and prayers are with both of you. Anything we can do, please let us know.
XOXOXO Lee
PS pictures will be comming a little later.
