Daily Bird Pics Vol 358

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Nice shots, all.

kc8tbq, my Titmice and Chickadees are partial to Black Oil Sunflower seed.

In fact, all I put out Sunflower seed, wild bird seed and a variety of suets.

Here is the blind I'm going to set up. Got it from ebay.

beautiful pictures--all. Duc the sparrow with the berries would make a beautiful greeting card, if you do that sort of thing.

Duc, I agree the berry photos would make great Christmas cards.

syndicate1 - I'd say you did a good job. I loved the black squirrel.

I lightened up the one of the two male House Sparrows (your 0946). I really liked it.

Congratulations Hack! I got the female first in my yard too!

Hi syndicat, Looks like things are improving! The ISO could have been at 400 for the House Finch and (some) of the Chickadee pics or you could have changed it through editing as Hack has done.

What program are you using for editing your photos?

Ps. What is BOKEH? (lol)

Or immature male, in both cases!

Not sure; think its something Japanese, that some people like to take photos of. Not sure it is available over here, never seen it for sale.

Some rarities in South Jersey the last days were a Common Redpoll, about 10 Cave Swallows, Razorbill, Little Gull, 57 Rusty Blackbirds and an Orange-crowned Warbler (late for them).

I think BOKEH refers to how pleasing the background is in a photograph.

i don't use editing for my pics as of yet. What do you guys use mostly on here?

I think that the black color phase squirrels are further north which Would explain why they are in Ontario.

syndicate1, I use Photoshop Elements 7. That's how I lightened your HOSP pic.

And to remove noise I either use PSE 7 or a free program called Neat Image, usually Neat Image..

got some new pictures, formerly KC8TBQ! I tried to get apic of all the sparrows, but as you know, they don't like to stay still. I will try to get a picture of the sparrows all over the feeder. There are so many on it sometimes that you can't see the feeder! It only has 8 feeding ports, but that don't slow them down a bit, they will actually knock each other off so someone else can eat! I actually got lucky and caught one that just got a seed, before he took off.

Here is just some of the sparrows that we get. Something spooked them and they flew, but usually the front of the sidewalk is covered!

You could start as simple as a free program like Picasa.

You could also buy photo software at a later date when you want something more involved.

Lakeview, OH

My hubby lets me use his camera, this one is a little fuzzy, but I think you can see it ok. I wanted to get a shot of a whole bunch on the feeder, and the feeder was swinging around.

I thought you might like this one, I took this guy's picture while he was enjoying his dinner, there was another squirrel tried to get on the platform with this one, and he was not having any of that. It was HIS feeding platform and no one elses.

Here is a White-throated and a White-crowned Sparrow.

A handsome pair! I love to watch those sparrows forage on the ground, seldomly they would venture onto the feeder. Nice pics. Rose. Congrats Marna on your Wren lifer. They "sing" up a storm in the spring, I cleaned out a gourd in which they used for the nesting house last season. Let me tell you those can really build sturdy houses. Lots of feathers, grass, moss, dog hair, even plastic that they have collected. Tiger, The "grandpa" Steller Jay is quite impressive! I just love its distinctive look. Duc, your shots of the local birds are fantastic, all so appropriate for post-cards of the season, awesome! Are the Waxwings still hanging around? Burn, the feeder is well liked by various birds. It's easy for them to perch on I think.

Nice one of the Squirrel having dinner, Teddy. lol

This is the first time I noticed Fish Crows using this post as perch--a usually spot for Herons and Egrets hang-out.

Pelle, the weather has turned cold(er) here. One look at this dove, you know it's cold out side.

Thumbnail by Lily_love
Lakeview, OH

I wanted to get a picture of one sparrow especially, he must have been really cold, he was settled on the boardwalk in front of our house, and he had fluffed his feathers up until he just looked like a ball of feathers with feet. He was so cute. I have found out that it is a good idea to feed the birds once a day like a cat or dog. That way the seed stays longer, I was feeding every time the feeder got a little empty, if you noticed how far down it was then, earlier I filled it to almost overflowing. That is how fast they can take it down! I tried to get a picture of the nuthatch, gonna have to work harder on that one, don't like to stay outside too long, it is cold!!!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

teddy_8905, formerly KC8TBQ, I know what you mean having about lots of House Sparrows. Sometimes they "cover me up", too. The slightest thing sends them aflight. And I've noticed that they tend to eat more wild bird seed than Black Oil Sunflower.

Lily_love, it has turned cold over here, too. But my birds were still active. Like your dove, some of mine are puffed up, too.
