I taught the dogs to say please for their treats....now when one of the Grandchildren are here and their Mother's tell them "Say please" all the dogs start barking. LOL

Thanks for the new thread, and cute pics of your pups. That barking would annoy me. I'm not a huge fan of barking. Our dogs are usually pretty quiet.

Here is our Daisy and Rosebud.

Rosebud is on the right. She is an almost 4 year old Pekingese-Shih-Tzu mix.

Daisy is on the left. She is a 3 year old full Shih-Tzu.

We also have four cats. Love our little zoo. :)

My dog rarely barks. Last week I went to my sisters house early, so we didn't go for our daily morning walk. I let her out in the back yard, and was inside getting ready. She was barking out there, which I didn't even realize it was her at first. So, I went out with a flashlight (5AM) thinking of the horror movies and don't open the door!

I didn't see anything, but she kept jumping up at the fence, so I went out the front of the house, a little more scared, but by now DH got up and came out with me. We couldn't find anything, until we looked on the roof. She had scared a racoon up onto the roof.
DH was going to go up to chase it off, but I told him not to, and it eventually got down on its own.

Good dog!

The dogs that don't bark...if they're barking you know it's for a good reason

Adorable pups, DE!

Deb, neat story about your dog and the raccoon. My dog would definitely be trying to get it, too.

Here are some recent pics of Patches.

Here she is with Dad and me.

oohhh look at all the babies!!!!... love them all!!!!

yorkies & barking just go together... they are not for everyone.. it's kind of like mother hearing.. I don't even pay attention to it anymore... unless they might annoy the neighbors.. that's when I will bring them inside... when my one neighbor uses his BBQ or goes in his hot tub the dogs will stay in the house.. but they don't come out much... for whatever reason when he flips the lid open on the hot tub.. he just lets it slam.. the dogs always freak out when he does it.. I always have a warning they are out there relaxing and don't let them out while they are there

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Seems the smaller the dog, the more they bark. I think it's a compensation thing. It's really more of a yelp than a bark.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Jily has a yelp.. Lily has a bark... Jily sounds like a puppy when she barks.. very high pitched

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice pic of your dale, Marilyn.

Thanks, Karen.....my Irish wolfie rarely barked....she was a sighthound, & they're quiet dogs....usually!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

can't remember the breed.. but the lady at my barn had one of those fluffy Alaskan dogs .. didn't shed but long fluffy hair... not supposed to "bark".. and boy that dog did not EVER shut up... they could not leave her alone for a second... used to annoy everyone at the shows we went to... they would just leave her tied to the trailer yapping the whole time.. they resorted to buying one of those collars that sprayed stinky stuff in her face if she barked.. pretty mean if you ask me.. but everyone stopped complaining

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

just thinking about it.. the dog wasn't Alaskan.. maybe from another country though.. beautiful dog... but they spoke German to it I think .. or another language
