Yeahhhh Bill

Wha, OK, I will not acknowledge all your postings as "confessions" of plant purchases from now on. Instead, I will now call them "research" plant purchases and I would think you could take a tax deduction for them too. Oh how I wish! No matter your garden will be amazing and enhanced by all the new "research" beds. Patti

He told me you talk funny. ^_^

I thought you said you were running out of room!

Thomaston, CT

Bill still has room! The left side of the driveway is longing for some jms.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes it is marilyn! also on the left down back towards the pond and on the hill on the otherside of the house - might move the spice garden under the deck and aspagus out for more - and that is without thinking:)

if you can have 60 or what ever the number is in the amazing 1/4 acre i might have some space for a few more:)

You bet!

Do you get deer damage on any of your Japanese Maples? I am still working my way through Topiary Gardens list. and am having a hard time to ordering only a couple. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

that is my problem:) no deer damage at all - although i can remember red chick claiming some damage

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Where is Red Chick? Patti

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Topiary Gardens is only about 50 miles from me. I'm going to make the trip this spring.

Bill, can you recommend some JMs that get quite tall for a semi shaded area? I have Bloodgood and Crimson Queen, so something that grows like that size. I would like one that is green in summer.

Did I ever show you my JMs? 3 years ago I went to a local park, Highland Park in Rochester, where they have a lovely selections of JMs. I saw a bunch of babies under the trees. They were mowing, and I knew they would be mowed down, so I asked if I could pull some out and take them, and was Ok'd to do so. Here's the flat of the babies I got. They are becoming quite lovely trees. All planted in the ground.

you're kidding Polly, I go there all the time, I'll be looking now!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

They're up the hill from the lilacs just below the resevoir, Deb.

Oh, and since you go there, have you seen the Lousiana Iris Friendship Gardens. I didn't even know that was there until two years ago. We normally make two trips there a year. Should go more often, but we don't, and it is some distance away.

What's quite tall, Polly?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I guess similar to Bloodgood. I really don't know how tall Bloodgood maxes out at, but ours must be 12-15 feet now. Something that size.

I've definitely seen the JM's, and I've lived here for 30 years now and seem to always find something new at that park. I didn't know there was an iris garden. Let me know when you go maybe we can meet up!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Bloodgood gets way bigger than that.

Color? Leaf shape?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Green. I'll consider any leaf shape.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Will do, Deb.

The iris garden is across the road from the conservatory, go down the hill by the tree peonies, and as you go around the bend it's there. It's really something in the iris world, a lot of the irises were donated from Australia and New Zealand. Amazing how the Lousiana irises grow so well in Rochester.

Here's some pics in this thread.

Shigitatsu sawa gets about 12 or so. Very nice in part shade. Bright green. I'll think of others.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thank you!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Green Mist is heavily dissected and gets about 9 or so. Very pretty.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Last year was my first time seeing the tree peonies there, when do the iris bloom?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Victor, I will go look at the two right now.

Deb, they were in bloom in late May. Highland Park is amazing, isn't it?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

polly i will dmail you some idea's to many for her. nice bunch of little babies, i remember them when you posted them in the past.

debi i would be all over getting some of those!

patti red chick dropped off dg when her pc died.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think she has had more problems than just her pc.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Bill, I would appreciate it.

That Green mist looks great. Thanks Victor. I think I will definitely get that one. It's described as waterfall type. So, maybe then one with more upfacing branches to contrast with it. They will be for an area near my front door, in a hosta bed.
