Coming from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1131215/
Victor do you know when he charges for an order at DRN? Is it right away or when it is shipped? I am wanting to get some hellebores too and also looking at some verbascum. Anyone had good results with verbascum 'Southern Charm' or any other variety?
I like using smaller venders too when able. Also looking to get some sedum 'Matrona' for the side slope bed. This is a good strong sedum right?
What have you ordered or would like to 2010/2011 #11
When it is shipped works well for me, thanks Victor. Do you know when he starts taking orders for spring?
You can ask him now. I'm sure he'll reserve for you. Tell him you're another friend of mine!
Pat! I had Verbascum sixteen candles. It wa huge I killed it when I tried to move it.
I really love the tidy verbascum that wont spread as I wished, maybe its steril. Bluestone 3 years ago.

And the lime really goes with that purple! Love it.
This plant has been taking its time producing more than 1 stem per year.
I really wish I had known what I was doing when I put them in. I should have planted all 3 of Bluestones plants in the same area.
Oh nice, that is a pretty combo. It is supposed to self seed I think, but you never know. I often yank things too fast thinking they are weeds.. Like the vibrant color too.
I have left the stalks hoping to see many babies but no luck. This is in a area where poppies self sow easily.
Pat & JoAnn, I grow verbascum Southern Charm, & I love it....I've bought plants & have started them from seed ...and I usually kill my seedlings, but those did well. I also grow the phoenicium hybrids....they stay small, & have never reseeded for me, & I've had them for years....you're right Jo...they aren't showy, but up close, they're gorgeous.
The phonecium dark violet was listed as seeding. No wonder I have been disapointed.
I am going to get a few more plants, or find the remaining ones in other parts of the garden and transplant.
Guess I cant trust Bluestones description. Thanks Marilyn
I'm back.I looked up the phoeneceums and Fine Gardening says they are Biennial. Mine has bloomed for 4 years.Annies Annuals site said they reseed.
Guess I wont get cranked up to see a large swath of them.
The ones I have are in an area that isnt very big or deep. The leaves spread wide and take up a lot of room. I want to establish more annual poppies there so guess I willbe happy with what I have.
Southern Charm is really sweet, many nice pix on PF. I am just not THAT fond of pink flowers but who knows could change any time.

Thanks for all the info on verbascum everyone. I was thinking of it for a spot next to the ac unit that may need to be traveled through occasionally. Wanted something fairly spiky, but not something that I would miss terribly if it got wacked by a repair man if you know what I mean.
Absolutly. That plant is widest at ground level.
I've had phoeniciums for many years in the same spot....definitely not biennials for me, and JoAnn, that Southern Charm is not really pink, but a soft coral that you would love!
SOFT CORAL?
I'm there.
I found info on verbascum that said they were dry soil and not too fertile, too much makes them flop.
I can see mine are not far from the mark as compared to everyone elses.
I dont want them to be the center of attention now as the phoenicums are smaller.I would use them as an accessory to other plants.
Here are my sixteen candles. They are showie but I didnt think they would need 5 feet of garden space for those huge leaves. I plantes all 3 of them in one spot.
This one is behind the 7 foot dahlia.I cant find "Sixteen Candles full force"
My Sixteen Candles is very floppy....loving Bold Queen.....
While out & about the last week, I've been noticing how lovely the winterberries are this year....going on my list for next year.
The birds devoured mine quickly!
Oh no! Don't tell me that!
Getting seed catalogs already. Start earlier each year.
FW guy tells me he's a bit behind schedule this year so the new stuff on the website and the catalog will be a bit later than usual.
Been ogling the conifers on Bloom River's website. Some gorgeous stuff.
Nothing new here.Just replace lastyears babies that ndidnt make it.
Its the 3rd year for most of the gardens and the weeds are driving me nuts, this includes Creeping Jenny and a weed that has fierce roots, looks like strawberry plants. This is so aggresive it grows over CJ.
Sounds like wild strawberry JoAnn. Have it here too. Need to pull it out from under the crown if you can. It has runners too. Get as much as you can in the spring every year. The CJ does go like mad too but is easy to pull. I have ajuga the birds or wind brought that bugs me and sorrel that makes a web of roots, nasty stuff that. Mulching early helps a lot with the annual weeds.
Waiting for the online sites to update to put in a few orders too. Mostly replacements for the slope garden and the new sib. bed.
I sure wish Round-up worked at these temps.
Looks like Bluestone has its site up for spring already. Garden Crossing taking spring orders too and says will have all new things up by Dec.
Put in an order to GC. Here is the list:
campanula 'La Belle'
hydrangea Let's Dance 'Big Easy' (blooms on new and old wood)
buddleia lo and behold 'Purple Haze' (new, low and spreading)
monarda 'Purple Rooster'
thalictrum 'Lavender Mist'
veronica 'Eveline'
A couple are new, a couple been around a while. What do you think, any experience with any?
Looking at my list I notice a blue and purple theme going on here. LOL
Wow JoAnn that is a gorgeous plant. Did it bloom a long time?
I have thalictrum Lavender Mist, and it's one of my favorite plants.
Can't wait to see the rest on your list.
I have the Lavender Mist too, and it is gorgeous.
Nice! What a pretty garden JoAnn. Looking forward even more now to spring.
Good news on the 'Lavender Mist' too. Does it re-seed at all? Want it behind a dwarf forsythia. Two reasons, 1 to hide it from the bambi crowd and 2 to hide any bare knees in case they should find it. Only worry is if it will get enough moisture in this spot. Might dump some crystals in at planting time to help it get established first season.
I've had mine (Lavender Mist) for about 6 years and it hasn't reseeded or spread much at all.
If you're going to use water crystals, may I recommend these. I started using them last year, and had great results from it. I think Lowes carries it, but I got mine from ebay.

My Lavender Mist never reseeded.
I have some crystals but not with the fungi included. Thanks to you all for info and tip.
The info says it will set seed but like most things around here the birds will probably beat me to it if it does.
Sounds like a nice list, Pat......I don't have any of them, but I may try that campanula....
I want some nice hydrangeas for that bed with the JM's and hellebores. I love the color of Invincibelle Spirit, but it flops. I want color, so no white ones.
The Let's Dance series are supposed to be nice re-bloomers. No lost flowers to late frosts. They will be blue here unless a little lime is added to the soil. They are mopheads with color right through most of the season and into fall. I like ES and these are supposed to be a little better. Time will tell.
