Oh Bettty-I am up between 5 & 6 am every morning to feed Jonathan-can't get back to sleep after I am done.....

Lyndonville, NY

Susan, Mr. Limpet is a family favorite! Last year for Christmas, I got the kids all their own copy! lol Carrie has said when she is home sick, she will curl up on the couch and watch Mr. Limpet....and we did have a hermit crab at one time called "Crusty" and a goldfish named "ladyfish". lol

Very wet and rainy here....and high wind warnings for the day. Not happy about that! I have to drive to Rochester with Shannon, she has a dentist appt and is going to be hurting....and with wind gusts 50 to 60 mph in a van, not fun!

Going for my coffee...its sputtering in the pot!

~~~~~waving good morning to all, Shirley & Tubby, how are you two doing.
~~~~ to Bev, how are you healing? Sending some hugs your way.

Be back in a bit
Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drive carefully Debbie, if your roads are like mine today it's best to leave a bit earlier and take your time.

Keep forgetting Stacey about that little one getting you up so early..body seems to get into a routine and you just can't sleep in..believe me I try every Saturday and Sunday but no go!!!

Lyndonville, NY

We don't have to leave until about 1:45, but definately with the van...it is not fun driving in the winds.

Well, I found out why I have had such a headache. My BP is through the roof! Lovely, will drag my lazy behind over to pharmacy and get my script refilled. I didn't think a "few days" would make much difference....sadly the few days turned into 2 weeks! Umm...smack me upside the head.

Trying to figure out Thanksgiving plans with the older girls.

Betty Thanksgiving is the 25th here, so another week to go.

Lexington Park, MD

Betty do you have snow up there?
Sewing again today. Would like to get on painting but not looking like today.

SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! Can't play around with blood pressure.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

No you sure can't play around with the blood pressure. Be careful on the roads y'all.

Betty I feel Rose's pain, I'm an only child with just my parents. Are they allowed to have more than one child in China now?

Glenview, IL

Good Morning.

Guess What? I am taking the day off!! Sort of anyway...Got to get to the post office, then I AM going shopping.
Woohooo, Can't remember the last time I bought anything for my personal self,LOL I am so excited.

We are going out to dinner with clients and the designer...I don't own a pair of dress shoes! Can you believe that??
Plus I need a nice pair of slacks. i am wearing this beautiful Dark Blue Dress Tunic(I guess you call it) That Steve bought for me in Greece.
Haven't been able to wear it as of yet, Tonight's the night. ROFLOL, I've been living in my painting jeans or sweats, grrr DH telling me I look frumpy!! Well hands on hips over here, I plan to knock his eyeballs out. Anyways, The dress has gold interwoven so i think I need a gold belt of some sort...Trying to think where to go, Penny's might be my best best!
Can you tell I am just giddy over shopping, lol I kinda feel like Barbie!

Debbie, What the heck girl!! You get in the van and get your medicine! Make sure to have a bottle of water so you can take one immediately! I'm with Maggie, SMACK,SMACK...

Wow, Betty, you are going to be free by Our Thanksgiving! Usually thats my goal, but haven's even started shopping. Sure glad my Kids know who Santa is because funds are pretty tight. Plus we have Julia's Birthday coming up. We are throwing her a Small Birthday Party...Sshhhhh, it a surprise. She'll be 21 this year!! LOL, Think i will take her on a shopping spree for that, Now that she is a supervisor, she needs nicer clothes...OMG, What a great idea, thats how I'll get her out of the house, lol I love when a plan comes together.

OK so here is where my kitchen is at. I got to say, as much as i really love the Blue and yellow...I am rather falling in love with the spiced color. I think it is giving my kitchen a much warmer feel, then the blue. Yesterday, i finally finished painting the sink side cabinets, drawers, and window, Wow...What a dramatic difference, and now DH is happy, he thought the blue and yellow gave us Romper room! lol,..
So in this photo, you can see the difference. Between the ugly white and the blue to the spiced.

Do you think Sage green for curtains will clash??

The floor trim, I finally decided is going to be black. to match appliances and tile.

Then in early afternoon. I did waterproof stain my bridge.

You know Crissy, I never thought of asking that, was that a rule??? interesting. Poor Rose, I was giving her a hard time last night, she was watching me wrap and looking inside each box, started to talk about her going to the Islands with 5 friends for Christmas and leaving on the 21st. and I said I'd have a fit if I only had 1 child and they didn't spend Christmas with me..that's when she said they really didn't celebrate, I find the no celebrating SAD! Being from large families and always getting together I can't imagine not celebrating..different traditions I guess!

She went on to tell me her last day at my house will likely be Dec. 18th. I truly will miss her..asked if after her next school term and she has to find another position for 4 months if she could re-apply at the township..she laughed and said she felt so at home and would love to..also said she'd come up and visit from time to time..drats..like having someone in the house who is so easy going..only thing was the messy room but a closed door and no peeking settled that.

Paul is coming into the office this morning, asked me to prepare a calendar showing dates were off due to stat holidays and he'll post time off for everyone..if I guess right I'd say work 23rd. then off until Jan. 4th. a total of 11 days. Because of our opening the 2 new offices recently I'm not sure if Paul will need telephone staff to keep things working, going to ask him, if he does I'll offer for time off after Christmas then that would surely solve the 'mom' problem!

Debbie, I'm adding smacks along with Maggie and the others, omg, don't you know you could die without the meds..boy, no hugs for you when I cross the border, it will be shaking my finger at you.

No snow here, has been all around us but they are calling for clear weather for yet another week..several years we've not had it until mid December so hoping it's the same this year...am sure Greg and my brother Mike wouldn't be happy with my saying so because their new machines are sitting waiting for the flakes.

Glenview, IL

Susan, Hope you enjoyed the movie. Can't believe it but, have never seen that one! Maybe when the kids rent movies i ask them to get it.

Betty, how is the rash, geeze i hope it's not poison ivy..if it hasn't spread then maybe it isn't...Try using the handsaitizer on it. I find that stuff is great to takes prickly stings out.

OH, Meet Spike!
Our newest addition. Sabrina decided she wanted another go with a fish...LOL dunno what kind it is, but it's a loner kind.

Judy, was that bridge there when I was there, don't remember it..love it stained..is that Mr. Inspector in the background inspecting that you've done it right? lol

Love the kitchen, especially love the spice cabinets..you've done well, now to find some pretty curtains! I'd say make a stop at Joann's and get some material that co-ordinate with a pattern and sew/sew/sew...

You won't forget to take a photo now will you all dressed up like a barbie..nice feeling to do something for yourself..know you rarely do..treat time for all the work you've been doing..is this dinner with client and designer for the towers that Steve works in, if he doesn't have the job, sure hope he gets it..I often think of Liz and I having the opportunity of going up in the common room in Oprah's building thanks to Steve, I so enjoyed my day, sore feet and all..moral of that story Judy, is purchase comfy shoes..lol

Imagine, Julia being 21, lordy when we first started gabbing she was 16 or so..nice that over the years we've been able to see our families grow..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hello Spike, waving here, hidding my kitties just incase they get an idea..

Rash is here, not spreading now, the itching is almost gone, been taking benedryl, one for me and one for Sailor..last night I put calamine lotion on it so most likely it helped.

Victoria Harbour, ON

meant to ask,

If you remember, I made boxes of knitted and crochet items to bring to the seniors home seeing as many get no visitors nor do they get gifts, anyway, was thinking this morning I have to purchase wrap so I can get them boxed, thought it would be nice for them to open but then a lot of these men and women are very old and most likely not too interested in opening a gift box...think I should just bag them?

Glenview, IL

LOL, Betty, Yep the bridge was there. But you gotta remember I've been "out" of garden care for past couple of years.
The only thing really to thrive were all the Wild flowers! Plus, the bridge was not so pretty as you can see with the before shot.
That was the first thing i added to the front garden, Steve and i built it about 9 years ago...
This coming season tho, When you come for gathering, you will see my gardens in her grand splender.
Way back, was the best on my block!!

Wow, Rose will be moving on, it seems like just yesterday she moved in. Well, i sure hope she will be back, sounds like you got your daughter for a little time! lolol, I hear you on the no peek behind closed doors!

Yep, will take a pic of my out for the night "barbie" Pose.

I think, the Bags would be great, easier to handle, and so many pretty ones, they can keep other stuff in them too.

Oops got to go now, late start for school time to get them there.

Have a great day everyone.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, if you bag them with tissue paper....sometimes it is easier for their frail hands to open.

I know I deserve the smacks. My hands are so sore and swollen, and it is winter time! Grrrr! I just hate taking medications so much....I will behave. I promise.

Judy, I just love those colors....I am partial to yellow & reddish together, it does look nice. It really gives it such a cozy/comforting look. I love the bridge also....you did a lot of work! And YES...pictures tonight! We need snazzy pictures of you and Steve all spiffed up. And, I don't have dress shoes either...I usually have to borrow my daughters shoes in an emergency....and stuff something in the toe if they are too big!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, we'll have to take another trip to Judy's just to see all the work she's done!

You of all people Debbie who looks after everyone's health and you go and not take high blood pressure meds..shaking my head and pointing a finger...wow..taking a chance for sure..

Shoes these days are too high and narrow..

Yes Betty, and it is still in force.

Going to ask her about that and get her feel on the subject..thanks Crissy..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Judy - that bridge looks so much better now that you stained it!!

I know your Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday of Nov - 1 1/2 months after ours!
Is everyone ready for it, and are you travelling?
I understand that Thanksgiving is bigger for you than Christmas! Christmas is the bigger of the 2 holidays for us!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

They come close though don't they Susan? Keep looking outside, rain seems a bit heavier, sure hope it warms up.

This morning is moving at a snails pace, ran out of one color to finish Mike/Ann's afghan so if Suzanne has nothing planned at lunch think I'll go pick up a few skeins, keep saying that's the last one but I looked into the bag and there is about 20 granny squares left so just might sew them together and put a few rows and make another lap afghan to take to seniors home.

Anything to keep me busy, what I wouldn't give to be able to either bring in my cutting matt and olfa cutter or my sewing machine..drats..

Lyndonville, NY

With our family, which is just our kids, they come here. "IF" they want to do in-laws....inlaws usually eat at 12;00 /1:00....then we will have a late dinner about 5:00 or so. Jeanna & Joe hate his Moms cooking, and both opt to eat here. Jeanna has been great about baking pies the last two years....but it really throws DH's nose out of joint. HE is the official pie baker in his books.

I have the "only child" thing going also....and since I lost my Mom 2 years ago, I have no other family near except the kids. With my PTSD, I can get very very overwhelmed at DH's Moms house. Thankfully DH understands, he might go visit early in the day and have breakfast with them....but we just kind of "agree" on that situation. He has 7 siblings all together, all are married.....and there are 18 nieces and nephews...and a few grands thrown in there.....and it just does me in. The house is not big enough, and half the time you eat in shifts standing against walls. Then his aunt shows up and "it hits the fan" and many people leave. SO, this just works better for me! lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

wow sounds like a Thanksgiving made in H*&l...nice for you to have it at home as you are always on the run..at least your having it at home will prevent you 'itching' just had to say that..lol

Kids are great with me at Christmas time also seeing as I'm alone..almost think it's better the years I decide to go south, that way we have our festivities the weekend before and Christmas weekend they have one less place they have to divide their time in visits.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Christmas was always bigger for us growing up, now that I'm grown and don't have kids neither one is a big deal really, Dave cooks for just the two of us, and we sit and open our gifts and text or call those who we send gifts to, or they call us, whoever gets up earliest lol, and that's it! Of course I enjoy my days off! LOL

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I always thought that Thanksgiving was a bigger "deal" in the States, than Christmas, because families travel across the States in order to be together.

btw - I got a "heads-up" about another job... My DH was hired into the company he works for, because of someone in our church (Judy) who works there. Now her DH (John), who is also our Church Board Chairman has been looking for a job for me. He sent her a job posting, and my DH phoned me to let me know. Judy has now emailed it to me. The job is as an Accounts Payable Analyst. They've posted internally, but would consider me an "internal applicant" because someone in the company has suggested me, apparently....

The position would be amended "to reflect the successful incumbent's previous work experience, skills, and education".... geeze they sound very flexible!
I'm going to "give it a shot"! Dunno what the pay rate is, but I guess that's dependent upon experiences, too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How wonderful Susan, worth a try, sometimes it's easier getting into a workplace when someone you know recommends you...

Crissy, you and Dave come spend Christmas with me, enjoy some of that white stuff..lol doors always open!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I have to get busy and send my resume and cover letter!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Judy, love the colors in the kitchen. I think I would go with the spice and yellow colors for curtains, like the towel on your stove! Don't know if sage green would go or not! Maybe if you had a piece of fabric the color you want and hang it over the curtain rod, that would give you a feel of what it would look like!
Debbie, I sure hope you got your meds and took one right away!

Thanksgiving here will be with my youngest son, his girlfiend, her daughter and my two grandson's.
Then for Christmas, we usually have two celebrations, one for my youngest when he comes in on Christmas day, and another for my daughter in law, when they come in for New Years.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

busy holidays, Linda!!!

We'll have to see who comes, of our friends, for Christmas. We don't have any family here who communicate with us - other than through email with my cousin.............

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I am the same way....would and do suggest, if you need to be someplace else...just let me know. I don't have an issue with it, and we can have TWO Thanksgivings/Christmas celebrations. But, they don't like it that way! Stubborn kids...wonder where they get that.

As for DH's zoo crew....we do visit his Mom & Dad day before, or weekend after Christmas....as it is the same issue for that holiday.

I will admit something today, Today is Stepfatherfrom "$#&@"s birthday. And it is eating me alive. If any of you followed my prayers thread when I was going through all that....you know the story. But, I wish to heavens I could get past that and move on. All that man did to us/me all the years...and I feel sorry for him being "alone" on his birthday. He hated birthdays, hated Christmas and all holidays....and he made us so miserable for so many years....and its that whole "Karma" issue. He got what he asked for.....10 fold. It just bothers me to no end....and today is his 80th birthday. I still don't think someone gave birth to him....that man came out of the tar pits.

Sorry....bad bad

Victoria Harbour, ON

I do know the story and you are not one bit to feel sorry for him being alone Debbie..no wonder your high blood pressure is high, without you even knowing it I'm sure it was subconsciously bothering you.

Sending you armwraps, go do something today that is important to you, get your mind on positive karma..

LindaKay, you will indeed be busy but a nice kind of busy...who picked a few weeks before Christmas for Thanksgiving celebration, it must be terribly difficult for families who aren't in same town to get together for both. So many family gatherings then nothing to do for months on end.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ROFL Debbie!! "out of the tar pits" LOL
Well, maybe he did!!
Sorta reminds me of my ex's brother...... he made everyone's life miserable. He was the epitome of a Male Chauvinist........ and he finally drove his Christian wife away. He used to stalk her, and still she repaid him with homemade meals, darned his clothes and even when he sat outside in his car watching the house, and accused her of "fooling around" with his best friend, she couldn't hold it against him. She just said "he is sick" and tried to help him. Well, it got so he had no one who would come to see him anymore, and when his "best friend" went to get a key from him, he was found to have died days earlier in the apartment, but no one knew.

I've sent my Cover Letter, Resume, and Transcripts of Marks to the company and am now waiting to hear back re: Accounts Payable Analyst position.
Still haven't heard back re: Executive Assistant position, so I've almost given up on it. It HAS been a month since I had my first of three interviews.......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well Susan you are moving one step forward trying for employment, regardless of the outcome you are giving it your all.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

thanks Betty - I'm having difficulty getting motivated to go out today cuz the weather is so miserable. It's still snowing, and I haven't gotten the "oooooompf" to get out to the church although I know I should....and it's only 1 km away!
I'm supposed to go look at that building where they need "Fall Cleanup" at the 3-story walk-up..... I don't know how I could do any now - it's already covered in 6" of snow, thanks to that "dump" we got on Monday night.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'd be leaving it for another day, no sense going out in bad weather. Keep looking outside, still raining but that's ok as long as it doesn't start to freeze.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

'fraid I'm having a bit of an anxiety attack and don't want to even leave the house (I do have to get the mail, but don't wanna go out.....)
These things get me "frozen" when I can't even go out... just want to stay home..... It's rather depressing, and I don't like this feeling.

Verona, ON

Not freezing here yet Betty but the rain is becoming 'fat' so I expect by dark it will be freezing. These are days I am so glad we are both retired and don't have to go out if we don't want to.
I've been 'cranky' or so my DH says and I do feel it the last 2 weeks so have been lurking mainly. Anyway it is time to pull up my big girl pants and get myself out of this feeling.
Reading all of your dilemmas about holidays meals reminded me of a drastic step DH and I had to make the first few years we were first together. We are both the baby in the family and our parents were older when they had us so no matter what we did to accommodate family plans someone's nose would be out of joint. So we decided Christmas Eve was ours and would visit 1 or the other family on the actual day be it Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter. Well that even upset our mothers so we just said "That's it, Christmas Eve is ours, we are cooking a turkey on the day if you wish to join us fine if not fine." Interestingly enough neither family wanted to make the drive so we have created our own holiday traditions. For several years a good friend came for dinner Christmas Day and stayed over for breakfast - it all came about the first year he was separated from his then wife. She out of spite would not let him see the girls Christmas Day even for hug and a kiss. That first Christmas he called us on Christmas Day to wish us a Merry Christmas and I asked what he was doing - when he said he was going to have KFC I just about flipped. Those girls meant and mean everything to him so when I said you come here there was no hesitation on his part. All of his girls are married now and have their own families and they wouldn't think of not having their dad with them for any celebration - warms my heart to see how that worked itself out.
Debbie I hope the wind isn't too bad for you - it is terrible here. We even have white caps on the lake which is a hoot.
Crissy is Dave the cook in your family or does he just enjoy getting a meal ready?
Judy I can hardly wait to see you all dressed up - I know you will knock the socks right off of Steve. Love your bridge!
Mary I got thinking you might enjoy Patricia Cornwall's books - I am just reading The Scarpetta Factor and while intense is quite good. Also I think you are like me and love to laugh so Janet Evonovitch's books are just the thing - her books in 1 series all start with a number. I am going to read #16 next. She has 2 men vying for her quirky character - Ranger and Joe and they both will make you swoon.lol
LK I was happy to read your dad is settling in - I bet he gets to see more people now he is with you. My father who was wonderful always said he could never live with me as I am too antisocial. That man could take to a park bench and get it to answer.
Oh Bessie I hope things are settled with your mother for Christmas - as I chuckle to myself. Your mother and mine, I am positive were cloned from the same doner(sp?).What unwanted drama and tension they can put into our otherwise happy life.My mam told me she had me to take care of her when she got sick or old and that was the only reason I was on this earth. A little hard to swallow and interpret when you are just a kid.
Stacey how are you doing sweetie? Getting anymore rest/sleep?
Remember the light Christmas Cake I baked a few weeks ago? Stormy my white GS countersurfed yesterday when we went into town - yep the cake is no more. He is so tall he can actually reach into the first shelf in the upper cupboards. Guess I'll be making DH another one soon.
Laura are you finished with all of your repairs? Sure hope so you need to rest up for the holidays so you can enjoy every minute of them.I'll bake tonight so we can have something with your excellent coffee in the am.
Susansending positive thoughts about your work prospects.
Going to get off of her before we lose power - later everyone!
Dianne

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

For those of you that knew Kris/Elf. She posted on facebook, that she lost her Mother yesterday! This is her post...

"I would like to thank all my facebook friends and Daves Garden Friend who prayed for my mom. She passed quietly in her sleep this morning at 12:30 am PST. She was in a coma since Friday and so did not suffer and she is now in a much better world."

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne so nice to see you post in your big girl pants, lol, that a girl, difficult to do at times but once you stand tall you almost feel as though you can smile.

Weather here is much like your Dianne, just hoping it doesn't freeze, if it does let it be at 8:00 a.m. in the morning, could use a fun day off especially as the boss gave us our paychecks a day early..

Amazing, your mom put the guilt trip that you were born to look after her and mine the opposite, always says 'know you will all put me in a home without a thought' think these bouts of ups and downs makes you a better person, you realize that there is no need to put a guilt trip on anyone, doesn't do anyone any good. The other day I hadn't heard from Jeff so I sent an e-mail just saying 'hi there' nothing in the body of the e-mail..omg sat and thought about it and sent another e-mail and said I did press send before I wrote the e-mail..so laughing, thought if he sees not body in the message area he'd surely think I was putting him on a guilt t rip seeing he's been so busy getting a program he developed out on the market on Monday..am sure I'll hear from him soon..it's easy sometimes isn't it to put things on the kids, however simple and without thinking..going to keep my guard up as NOT to do such a thing.

Bet the kindness to your friend will never be forgotten Dianne..it's a difficult time of year, although we all should be singing Christmas carols a lot of sadness also enters our lives at Christmas. I do try not to dwell on it but just seems to drop in on me..my mind usually goes back to a time................

Won't go there, take lessons from you Dianne and will pull my big girl pants up..
