That Bottlebrush Buckeye is just getting legs under it, Sally - give it a couple years and see if it doesn't provide the Wow.

Not very much left with foliage around the Valley, but every so often I wander about and am pleasantly surprised.

Here is Quercus georgiana (Georgia Oak) still in full leaf yesterday morning, showing presence of 26F...

Pretty oak leaf. I find some oak seedlings/ very young ones, with nice red fall leaves~ will that indicate good fall color later, or could it change?
The BB buckeye does look a whole lot better than when I bought it as two stems LOL. One clean leaf from it.

Beauty is in the eye...nice foliage there on the BBB.

Almost any seedling can express interesting (or not so) colorations in the fall. Oaks certainly are no exception, in my humble experience. What color they turn is an indication of their capacity - not necessarily a certainty though - to exhibit this characteristic as they mature.

So - in a field of seedlings to choose from, would you pick out the washed out greenish yellow blah color exhibited, or the brightest flashiest knock-your-socks-off fill in your favorite color here?

Of course you would...

I've been pretty disappointed in my ability to predict fall color by a seedling's coloration.
I made special effort to save a few brilliantly red-colored acer rubrum seedlings a few years ago.
Now that they're saplings, their color is no better than average.
I suspect Mother Nature has thrown a few other factors in play just to thwart our garden plans, as usual.
That dastardly Mother Nature never ceases to enjoy upsetting my schemes.

Wow! What a treat and education! I know very little about trees and shrubs and am trying to increase my knowledge. I love the beautiful fall colors they provide. So many pretty pictures. Thanks.
