Help!! I'm a transplanted (no pun intended) Midwest gardener. In the Midwest fall is the time to cut just about all herbaceous perennials. This is my first year gardening in the SF Bay Area. I keep doing things and then worrying. So, I cut two huge common yarrow plants all the way back--mistake? My thyme ground cover had lots of browned out areas--I cut it completely back--green and brown areas. I assume they'll survive, but what are the recommendations for herbaceious perennials in my area?

OR, since you're in Richmond, you should go ck. out Annies Annuals and Perennials. 740 Market Ave Richmond, Ca.

I think they have classes and demonstrations there where you could get your questions answered. It's a great nursery.
