Freeze tolerant plants

We had a hard freeze the other night. It went down to about 27 degrees. It seems interesting that the petunias never froze and are still blooming but the impatiens were zapped the first time it hit 32 degrees. Has anyone seen a chart that tells the lowest temperatures that various flowering annuals can tolerate? It would be nice to know what plants need to be covered up and which can survive a light freeze. Thanks for any help.

I don't know of such a chart but it sure would be handy to have. We also have old fashion petunias that can take the milder freeze - we love petunias.....

Just Googled Pansies hardiness - found this http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1082/is_5_43/ai_57563936/

It seems that some varieties can take temps down to 15f.

most annuals planted in spring and summer will only last until the first frost or freeze. "hardy" annuals like pansies are planted in fall and will survive until the summer sun melts them. this is just a general rule of thumb; it wouldn't apply to every state.
