I got a free packet of onion seeds in the mail. When should they be planted in south Georgia (zone 9?) Should I start seedlings in pots or direct sow? I have never grown onions at all.
when to plant onion seeds
The seed package says "Hybrid Onion, Yellow storage Bridger F1Treated" Does that tell you what kind it is?
Yes Bridger is a long day onion, normally harvested in August. They do not do well in the south, because our summers are too hot. Best bet is to sow them in the fall here and harvest for spring (green) onions. rarely will they size up in the south.
