disappearing marigolds

I put this in the vegie forum because the marigolds are in my vegetable garden. What kind of critter or insect would completely devour a marigold plant? I thought marigolds smelled and tasted bad to keep the baddies away from the vegies.

I don't know if deer like marigolds, but maybe rabbits do.

Slugs will eat Marigolds until there is nothing left! Lizards will eat the flowers.
