Is there a way to ripen figs on or off the tree? The fig tree still has several unripe figs on it and our first frost is looming and it will need to be wrapped in burlap since it winters outdoors...any ideas?
fig trees
My fig tree is actually growing on my balcony -- it has no figs left on it now, and I wrap it every November -- once we start having frosts. I've had this tree for at least 8 or 10 years.
If there were figs on it I would leave them on and just wrap the plant-- and check on it every so often (to see if the fruit has ripened, grown, fallen off).
I wrap my balcony trees with lawn and leaf bags (paper) and then put plastic over that-- however I live in VA where it is a litle warmer than where you are (but not by much -- I face North and the winds get pretty fierce sometimes, not to menion the 50 inches of snow last year)
Hope this helps
