Hmmmm....how does one use a propagule? Wonder if Google can direct me.....propagule is a synonym for alien, is it? :-O
Lin--I was buying mini's when I got Super Orange almost 2 years ago. It is possible I am making an assumption.
Giving Thanks for November Blooms!
Jan: I don't know a thing about these plants, I don't even really know how big a mini is, or the difference in size of a standard to a mini. ^_^ I received two micro mini's sinningia's in trades a few years ago (pusilla and Rio das Pedras). They are both so tiny and sooo cute. I still have one left, I think it's Rio das Pedras.
A sinningia w/o a tuber??? Blasphemy!!!!! What does it have? How is it grouped with sinningias? It IS very pretty Bonnie!
Bonnie,
That's wonderful!! I have never heard of one without a tuber.
Lynn
Phoebs,
Here's an interesting article about Super Orange.
http://www.gesneriads.ca/sinnin35.htm
This should help you with the propagules.
http://www.gesneriadsociety.org/resources/propagate.htm
Thanks Lynn!
I don't know why it has no tuber but it does not. That was an intresting article on super orange.
bonnie
Bonnie: Paper Moon is so pretty, love that flower! How big will that plant get, is it considered a mini?
At the Gesneriads website they state that most Sinningia's grow from tubers, but don't give a list of non tuberous ones. I'd be real curious to know how many don't come from tubers and do they have rhizomes or bulbets or what? I see here: http://www.gesneriads.ca/sinni115.htm it says Paper Moon is a cross between S. White Sprite and S. schnifferi. I wonder if both of the parents are tuberous?
Jan: Turned or not, that is one beautiful plant! I've always been really bad about rotating/turning plants!
Nichole: Is Ozark Blazing Embers a Strep? I love the color.
No, it is a sinningia I picked up from David at the state show a few weeks ago. It IS a pretty color, isn't it? He (David) did a presentation at our club meeting a few days after, and I came home with a tuber called "HCY's Blue Dolphin". Getting up the nerve to pot it . . . just not sure how much to bury - it's got a 2-3" leggy growth on it.
Nichole,
I'm not sure how deep to bury it either......maybe with the tuber close to the surface.I don't know if David is back online yet,but maybe he or Bonnie could help.
Sorry I don't know Jan,but it's very pretty.
Lynn
Someone on a different forum said to bury just the tuber . . . but I think I'll wait until David is ready to be available again.
Jan - technically, that pic does fit the description for Rob's Cool Fruit. If you have FC2 (I don't remember if you had it or not), look at the secondary picture. The only thing I can't tell from your pic is if the leaves are serrated . .
Rob's Cool Fruit (8608) 05/31/1997 (R. Robinson) Double white pansy/rose-pink edge. Crown variegated medium green, white and yellow, pointed, serrated. Semiminiature
Nichole: Maybe Mrsbonnie can offer advice on that Sinningia tuber ... I think she grows lots of Sinns.
Jan: Wow, the color of that bloom is really nice! It looks like the colors of fruit cocktail so maybe it is Rob's Cool Fruit. ^_^ Although, the one photo in PF seems to have pink colored blooms: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/161498/
And, there are two photo's of Rob's Cool Fruit on this page: http://www.reedsgreenhouse.com/name2.htm (But, it looks like 2 different plants to my eyes!)
At Rob's Website: http://www.robsviolet.com/rob%27s_cool_fruit.htm
bury the tuber, but make sure the top is not covered, all mine are exposed.,Looks like you will either have to stake blue dolphin or cut the tip of the new growth down to about an inch or so & put it close to your lights so it will not be so leggy. I believe sinn. schnifferi does not have a tuber i do ave that one also. I believe paper moon is a mini. It's really quite pretty. very pale pink, very soft looking. I don't think there are any other sinns with out tubers.
bonie
It certainly looks happy.
Helen,your trailer is beautiful.
I think i got it at hausermans, they have a web site, you can try there,i think it's just adorable.
Bonnie
I think it is adorable too!!!
Very pretty ladies!! Too bad I can't grow them.
Lynn
Darling. I have one. They are so cute.
