Hi, I have a question about Morning Glory Vines. I have an arch that leads into our backyard and have had trouble with roses growing up it. So I thought maybe I should plant a Red Morning Glory vine next spring to cover the arch. I live in Zone 5. What are the pros and cons of Morning Glory Vines. Thank You.
pros and cons of morning glory vine
Hello, rosebabies. Ken here in the Chicago area. I also live in Zone 5.
The pros of morning glory vine are big flower, great color, and fast growing.
The vine can be grown from cuttings and is a great cut flower.
The only con I see is that the vine is an annual in Zone 5. If planted in the
ground, it might come back from the roots after a mild winter. If not,
you can plant one of your cuttings in its place. Good luck, and keep me
posted on your results. Take care.
It all depends on what species you want to grow. Are you thinking of growing Scarlett O'Hara? If so, that is species Ipomoea nil, which is an annual especially in Zone 5
