Thanks for the new thread, JoAnn. I have have big plans to do things this winter. I'm hoping to get a new scanner and start scanning a lot of old photos. Maybe I'll get one that'll scan slides, too. I have a lot of those from the days that I did slide photography.
I would also like to start some ceramic mosaic stepping stones for my gardens in stoneware, so they can be kept out all year. There's a new pottery studio near me, and I'm going to check with them and see if I can do something like that there.
There's other things I would like to do, but we'll see. Those 2 projects there are pretty big ones, and they might keep me quite busy all winter. I might not have time to do anything else.

About ceramic studio.
Be sure they fire high. I am inclined to think they dont fire stoneware as its expensive to fire above 1800* F
Many businesses like this use a low fire clay and glazes that dont make it in the elements,Glaze shatters off when the damp walls freeze.
It was ages ago but I bought a scanner that had an added slide scanner for extra price.
Slide scanners are not expensive. Scanning photos is a lobor of love and well worth the time.
I've had a lot of experience with ceramics. Took classes in high school, and we used low fire clay there. Then took some classes at a community college, and did high fire and some low fire. I did find out that the low fire stuff cannot be left out over the winter. In Phoenix, AZ it would not be a problem, but here, forget it. I have a friend whose husband has a kiln or 2. I might ask how much he would charge me to fire my pieces, and if he has experience high firing. That is if the pottery place in Plymouth doesn't do it.

I did some bulb planting after getting back from picking my son up from school, it gets dark tooooooo fast now so I still have a ton to do.
Karen!
Great ,sounds like you are pretty checked out on clay.
I'm trying to knit a sweater for HayHay....I've knitted the same 2" about three times.....now I've decided perfect & homemade are not compatible.
Oh, poo, Marilyn! That stinks.
Karen
LOL....when it gets cooler, I'll begin again!
Good luck with the pottery and knitting projects. I used to crochet for years but have not done anything recently.
I hope to get out tomorrow if the sub returns and cut back the mushy hosta and drooping peony. That should just about do it in the garden for this year. Planning and plotting for next season will consume my time for the next few months.
I will be starting daylilies from seed this winter, but that will be wintersowing outdoors. Might try some seeds indoors, too, on the enclosed porch. I can buy some shelving units and shop lights and get set up for indoor growing. Can't wait! I'm already psyched!
Karen
I'm hoping the seed catalogs start coming in....
I definitely need more winter projects. I work two days a week, but I need something to do in the house. Just the two of us, so almost nothing to clean. I have my website to update, and cubit to work on, and I read a lot. But I need a plant project.
I do have grow lights up. Now what to start?
I wish I was artistic like Jo. That covers all seasons. But, I'm not.
Whaaaaaaaaat ? Your young and strong and nimble.
That counts for a lot.

yes joann?
You'll find something, Polly.
Karen
After you said daylilies from seed, Karen, I went out and grabbed all the iris seeds I could find. That's a start. Thanks.
Jo was speaking to me Bill. You're not the only one who is young strong and nimble, LOL. I only wish. .
Well I managed to zip out and get a nice hole dug, amended with compost, a touch of lime and filled in again. Soil was a little wet but not enough to clump up so I hope all will be well as my peony is do to arrive today. Planting it should take about a minute now since a shallow placement is called for peony plants. Hope this baby lives. If I can sneak out again this afternoon I want to get all the other peony plants cut back and bagged for the trash.
polly she was yelling my screen name! :) i used to be those things too!
Your screen name is not whaaaaaaaT, although if you wish to answer to that. ........
Anyone who can move that many stones is really strong, or now has a really bad back.
I need to cut down the hosta & peony foliage.....starting to look very ratty.
think i will build a couple A-Frame bird houses this weekend or next
Are you going to offer any for sale?
FlowAjen, Sorry, but I think they are going to be a gift to me. Patti
Ohhhh brother.
I'd be a buyer
Me too Deb
patti we can trade for some pottery.
jen it sounds like your hubby is prettty handy - they are very east to make.
deb when it your ru?
Wha, I would never take that much advantage of you. Your work is art and my craft ain't even close to art, yet. Patti
I would take advantage in a second! ^_^
patti i am not offering up a round bird house:) those take forever and i need to improve the roof design - hoping the new tabel saw solves that - i think a nice hand made pot from you would be great! and more than an even trade.
I'm liking where this is going!!!!!!! LOL
Bartering!
Ohhhh yes !!!!
Wha, You might have your self a deal. Any birdhouse from you would be a real treasure. I would supply a nice fat hippeastrum bulb planted up with my pot. But this all depends on whether the batch I am about to glaze comes out when they get fired next week. That is a big "if". I will send you pictures to choose from or to reject until they get better. I go back up to Boston on Monday to set up my studio space and then on to Brigham to go under the knife on Tues. Fun and games. I hope to be home in 4 or 5 days. Patti
i am sure they will be fine - it is a deal!
i will dmail you a couple diffent types to choose from after i finish the A-Frame's
I can build Play-Doh garden action figures.
LOL Victor, take pics! ^_^
ROTFL...hubby doesn't have to time to do the stuff he's supposed to do around here
