Hi, a friend gave me some Rose of Sharon Hibiscus seeds and I'd like to know if it would happily grow and live here in Miami (zone 10b). I also have a tropical hibiscus and is doing great but not all hibiscuses (?) are the same and that's why I'm asking.
Rose of Sharon Hibiscus Red Heart
Good question locoboy0712. You are correct. Not all hibiscus are the same.
Tropical hibiscus(Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) and Rose of Sharon(Hibiscus syriacus)
are different species. Your tropical hibiscus loves it there in Miami. Unfortunately,
Rose of Sharon won't be as happy. The southern end of its habitat is zone 9, about
Orlando on north. But don't throw them out. Nothing is set in stone, as I say.
Give them a try and see what happens. Keep me posted on the result. Good luck.
Hortman2: well It sprouted about 2 weeks ago and it's doing pretty well it already has 2 true leaves but still very small and very very slow growth rate. RIght now we have weather in the 50's and I don't know if it'll help it or slow it.
