Carolina Allspice...How come it does not have seed pods

Owen Sound, Canada

Can anyone help me. My mother brought home a piece of Carolina Allspice from my cousin's home in BC.Canada over 20 years ago..it is now over 10 feet tall..I have tried to take cutting from soft wood, and hard wood, with no luck, Just wondering how come, it does not produce seed pods in the fall..I keep looking for them, but it has never produced them..Can anyone help me out with this..I would love to start some new plants, I have a lot of friends that would like a plant of their own, but I have had no luck with this at all. Thanks Shannon

Here in Coastal South Carolina mine send out new shoots. I have had it at least two years and it is about 8 foot tall. I noticed that last year it put out two new plants and I plan to give one to my son this spring.

Lack of seed production usually equals lack of suitable pollination conditions - whether climatic, pollinating fauna, etc.

Making more plants by division of lateral runners/shoots would be lots quicker than from seed anyway - but you'll have clones of the parent plant.
