Sowing Gerbera seeds (Transvaal Daisy)

Brisbane, Australia

Hello to all at Dave's Garden. (I am a newbie here) lovely to meet all of you :)
This question has probably been asked & answered a thousand times, so I am asking for the 1001th time lol - Whilst not new at gardening, I am new to sowing Gerber seeds. It is Spring here in so called sunny Queensland Australia (so called because we saw the sun for the 1st time on Saturday for over 2 weeks, terrible storms) so I know that this is a good time to start. Have collected heaps & heaps of Gerbera seeds - all sorts - and am raring to go. Peat moss or peat pots, seed raising mix or just plain old potting mix, my brain is whirling lol. - Sandy aka bluebell33 :)

years ago my mom had a small nursery and i would help out sometimes. i've forgotten alot (or just didn't pay attention regrettably) but i do remember that the gerbera seeds had to be standing up. her potting mix was good topsoil, peat moss and perlite. we'd fill a 4" pot, lightly firm the soil and push the seed straight down so that the feathered end of the seed was even with the soil. we'd put about 25 seeds per pot and seperate after they had at least 4 leaves. they bloomed best for us in well drained sandy soil.
