I read where you need to prune the branches that bore fruit this year . My problem is I cant tell which canes are the ones that had fruit this year.Is there a way to tell ?
which branches to trim on blackberrie bush?
The old canes generally hold the remains of this year's berries (little caps). Also, the leaves should have already begun to turn yellow and/or red prior to dropping off the cane. Also, the old canes should have turned woody and be brown whereas the new ones are normally still green with green leaves. Prune the old canes as close to the ground as you can get.
