Hello! Does anyone keep lists/database, something of all the plants you have and the ones you're interested in?
I have tags, seed packets, lists—but you know, some things don't take because I planted late, or should have started the seed inside, or I want to replant it in the fall (but would love a reminder).
Thanks for your help, and any suggestions :)
Organizing Plant Information
I use a spreadsheet (Excel) and list my plants in alphabetical order ( going down) and across the top I list the months. This way I can keep up with what is blooming at the same time. This is also a help when you're adding new plants or doing a combination planting. I would think that you could do the same thing with your seeds. List the names of the seeds and then highlight or mark the month to start the seeds. This will also help you keep up with the date that they germinate.
Would this work for you ?
I have a gardening journal(old school) I keep, there is also a journal available here on DG.
Thank you for your replies—Yes, you're right, I could(and will) use Excel; I think I was hoping for something that would do some of the work for me for my zone (dreaming...)—and was more attractive than excel (I'm also a designer, so I'll have to hold back from wanting to make it into an attractive spreadsheet).
However; if I start now and build it into a database that ties into my mac calendar I could have something really sweet as time goes on. We'll see how that works out... :)
Thanks again!
Oh I like the idea of using the Mac calendar. I use bento (simple database program) for organizing plant info on my Mac. I know bento will pull in calendar info. Not sure it will push it out to iCal. Travelling now but will definitely delve into this deeper when I return home.
Hi Sharon, I like the Bento Idea. I should be using it for more things than plants actually :) I have the trial edition now, so we'll see how it goes, Thanks!
