The county did some ditch work along the road where we have large mature crape myrtles. Many small plants have grown from the injured roots. I want to dig them up and plant them elsewhere, but wonder if there is any way to stop the roots from just sending up more shoots. If I put more dirt over the roots where it was graded off, will that work? What if I put some of that root kill stuff like you put on tree stumps where I cut the new plant off fromt the parent's root? Would that kill the whole adult crape myrtle, or would it just kill back some roots a little ways and prevent more shoots?
