Do you dress up? Decorate? Go to or throw a halloween party?? Or....
Do you lock the doors and shut off all the lights?? LOL
I try to dress up every year and decorate some, not as much as I used to when I was young. Also, had to give away most of my really scary decorations as the grandkids didn't appreciate them as much as I do. Have to go with "cutezy decorations" now...you know, Dora the Explorer, Whinnie the Pooh in a Bee costume, ect..... Seeing pooh in the Bee costume got me to thinking i'd be a Bee this year. Maybe I can sting a few politicians ;) I found one costume that was cheap, my grandkids love and DD can borrow to cover her ever expanding belly. (She's showing already). However when I punched in Bumble Bee Costume in yahoo search engine...I got an eye-full! Costumes were very skimmpy and it was like no bee you see out here in the country....although Brian opted I wear anyone one of them..I chose the traditioanl one. :))

Every year my daughter throws a Pumpkin Carving Party for family and friends. It started out w/the oldest daughter Nicki doing it but now the next to the oldest, Tiffany does it as she has more room.
I am in charge of growing (or buying on bad years) the pumpkins for all my grandchildren and making a dessert for the kids. There are usually at least 12-15 kids at this event....5 of them are my grandchildren :) Every kid brings a parent, no exceptions unless they are old enough to carve and gut out a pumpkin on their own. The reason I say that is because the first year i grew 120lb. pumkin and it took an hour just to gut it out!! Then it took 5 of those pumpkin stencils to go across it...we don't use giant pumpkins like that for carving anymore! LOL
Here's 2 of the pumpkins from last year's P.C.P.
Halloween What are your plans?
Oooh, very neat pumpkins! It sounds like your grandkids (and kids!) have a wonderful time. My middle GK, Anni, was supposed to be born on Halloween, but the Dr. did a C-section on the 27th.....however, her birthday party always has a Halloween theme...all the little cousins dress up.....here, at home, I just carve a pumpkin...this year I have 3 little ones....the road is so dark, narrow & hilly, only 3-4 kids show up.......
Robin, the ultra-sound I had for my youngest child said I was due on Halloween also. However my Doc, knowing me said i'd go around the 27th...he was right. Labor on the 27th, Josh was born the 28th .... when he was little we did Halloween theme parties for him too. ^_^
Anni loves the Halloween theme...this year she picked out a shark costume! Will post photos when she has her party.....
I like that pumpkin carving party idea. I didn't know your DD was pregnant, when is she due?
I don't decorate for Halloween but for fall. Kids will dress up(my daughter wants to be a pink puppy and my son wants to do some kind of character from Bioncle or something) and we usually go to our friends house, they do it up BIG. In their neighborhood the houses are closer together so less walking. The one time we were home on Halloween here we got only 4 kids.
She's due March 27th , 2011 ....we are hoping for a grandSON!!! LOL
I don't decorate as much as I used to, still haven't gotten my orange lights strung around the pole yet. Maybe I'll do that today after I get the turkey in the oven.
We build a fire, and sit on the patio, have a couple adult beverages and watch the kids come up and help themselves to a bucket of candy. Sometimes friends or neighbors stop over for awhile and sit around the fire with us. We get 20-30 kids, less than years past. I used to dress up too, but guess I'm just gettin old.
DH is a Steelers fan and they have a night game on Halloween, so we'll see if we do a fire this year.
we do not do anything - i think we have had one kid in 11 years
I buy a whole bunch of candies...then I shut out the lights, lock the doors, and eat them all :))
Have non sugar items on hand (in case I have to eat them) occasionly have a customer.
We use to get 50+ kids, now we are lucky to get 10. I still by lots of candy and if no one comes...more for me!! ^_^
I remove the battery from the doorbell, chain the outside gate, close the blinds, turn off the lights to the front of the house and hope they don't destroy my mailbox with a baseball bat or shoot out a car window like they have done to my neighbors in past years.
- and if you think that's bad I won't even tell you what they do in the Bronx!
Geez! Talk about spoiling the fun of things!! (Not u WC...people who do those rotten things)
I'm hoping Allison will post pictures and a link to her magnificent, 1st place, Haunted House!! :)
you know I will
:)
cute picture
would love to grow one of those gourds
and while your munching your candy remember this....
•Three miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups—the kind you find in office candy bowls and trick-or-treat-bags—fill your belly with more sugar than a glazed doughnut.
•Half a pack of Skittles has more sugar than a scoop of Haagen-Dazs Cookies and Cream Ice Cream.
•Nine Twizzlers carry as many calories as a Wendy’s Double Stack Burger
yikes!
Celeste!!!
WOW those calories add up! and i use to like twizzlers
Last year my daughter had a Halloween party for her daughters 2nd birthday, and we did a garden theme. My grandaughter was a lady bug, her mom was a buterfly, her Dad was a butterfly catcher? and I was a flower. We had a blast. I decorate a little but don't dress up unless there is a party
My neighbor and I grow pumpkins for the kids in the neighborhood and give them out in time for carving. This year we had so many I dropped one off on everyone's doorstep when they were not looking. I love seeing all the kids dressed up and get about 100 of them. This year I bought silly bands wholesale so I have plenty. I never give out candy because no matter when I bought it - there wouldn't be any by Halloween. The little kids love getting a toy - the big kids, not so much. :)
Ory & Bella are such cuties! You're so lucky to have them, Pixie....Memory, that's a very nice thing to do.....
We are in Florida by Halloween and we have tons of kids. There are a lot of decorations in the neighborhood. My neighbor sent me an email yesterday that there will be a parade of dogs in the neighborhood in the late afternoon. I don't go in for dressing dogs up, so we will likely be spectators, although we are getting pressured since our girls' sister will probably be in the parade. Not our thing, but I will take lots of silly pictures.
We are leaving tomorrow, so I'll be checking in once we get there! Everyone stay safe and well and happy until we return!!
Louise
Celeste.......adorable picture of the little angels on the pumpkin!!!
A very happy & safe trip for you & Hank, Louise....wish I could stow away! I dressed up my airedale Jazz as a maple tree one year, & Robs as a baseball player.....so perfect, the athletic dept. was getting rid of old jerseys, & one had Harlow across the back....no relation, but Robs wore it proudly...now having said that, I need to see the girls in something!
Safe drive Louise!
Sue, I remember your pictures from last year, you were all so creative. I also remember joking that Keith could attach a handle to his back and go as a watering can! But the butterfly and butterfly catcher was cuter for a husband and wife.
::::::covering my eyes from Jen's post:::::::::
Thanks so much, Marilyn! Instead of stowing away, perhaps life will surprise you and you'll end up in Florida and able to visit us! I think your creative costumes for Jazz and Robs are super! Our girls will dress up as a couple of rascals! LOL They don't need new costumes for that!
Thank you Debi!
Yikes, Jen - that's an eye-opener!!!
Sue - I think your costumes sound adorable! If you find some photos, please share them with us!! So creative!
Memory - I love your ideas for Halloween. It takes a lot of preparation and thinking ahead on your part, and is extremely generous of you. I hope the kids appreciate your efforts! So thoughtful! I know just what you mean about not wanting candy in the house. I have to buy the kinds I don't like.
Very cute cupcakes!! I understand your thinking about the photos! I'll just imagine them in my mind. LOL
Deb, I did take one but it was blurry and you couldn't make out the Moose! Sorry :(
Jen.....i'll eat yours for you :))
Yank, how nice that you do that. Brian and I were just talking about making a pumpkin patch besides the corn patch. If he can have 18 rows of corn than I can have a pumkin patch, right?? LOL
Thanks Robin!
Have a safe trip Louise, keep us updated on the warm weather please. Oh, and pictures of the dog parade would be nice.(hint, hint)
Love the cupcakes!!!
very nice Debi!!!.. love all of them!!!
heehee Celeste
I wish I had room for a pumpkin patch, I did grow 3 jack be little pumpkin gourds though. Neat that you do that Memory.
I decorate the house - don't go crazy though. Still haven't done it. We have gotten fewer kids over the years.
Love those cupcakes!
Hope those cupcakes tasted as good as they looked....very creative
