This is a photo of a rose-of-sharon in my garden. It has lost most of its leaves and generally doesn't look very healthy. In the macro shot, you can see little white spots on the branches and lots of red spots on the leaves.
I'm relatively unfamiliar with identifying/managing diseases - can anyone help? What do I have here?

I also have a mountain laurel (two of them, in fact) with awful red spots on the leaves - is this the same thing?
