Hi all! I have a potted plant that I just discovered is a Cutleaf Staghorn Sumac. I'd like to plant it in the yard/garden, but fear it might be a bit late in the season. Any thoughts? The leaves have already turned if that means anything.
fall planting in zone 5b
Your Sumac should be fine to plant now. It's hardy to zone 4a and if you're concerned, use a bit of light burlap around the stem during the worst of the cold. Make sure the soil is well prepared and a bit of light mulch (hay, leaves, etc) around the base can protect the roots from winter cold.
