Gardening in Seattle area

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

This may sound like a stupid question since it's really green up there but can you grow hot peppers in eastern Washington? I might be moving to Puyallup in a few weeks and having lived in the desert 99% of my life I take peppers for granted as they're a major crop here and grow quite well but I'm worried they'll do poorly up there. Any fellow chileheads and gardeners there care to chime in?

The only way you will be able to grow hot peppers around Puyallup is with a greenhouse. Many people try, but it takes an exceptionally warm year, and the peppers planted in pots against the south side of the house to have a chance. We just don't get the heat needed for a good growing season. I have gotten some decent jalapeno peppers, just off a (very) dwarfed plant. There are some good local nurseries that put out starts - seek variety from the downtown farmers market starting in May.

I grow a few peppers every year and consider it successful if I get 3 or 4 peppers per plant. What is the yield like when they are grown in a more conducive climate? How tall do they get. Mine reach about 2 feet tall. I'm in Seattle

Dorkasaurus why do you ask if you can grow hot peppers in Eastern Wa when you are moving to puyallup. This city is on the west side are you going to commute over the hill to grow?

eweed: old thread but I meant western, or "the other left" or whatever. Turns out I'm still in New Mexico and my peppers are happy.
