Hi, today I found a nearby Cordyline Fruticosa and I loved the red foliage so I cut of one of the smaller stems and I but it in a bucket of water. Look at the picture and tell me what you guys think or suggest I do. I can always go back and cut another stem off.
How can I propagate Cordyline fruticosa?
Don't know if I can help you much as I would rather see the whole cutting to see what's under the water, I have grown new plants from old myself but normally have managed to remove a bit of new growth with a part of old wood (stem) attached as this usually has a little root nodule thing already grown, if you have just a stem in the water then not sure IF it will sprout new roots but as with all gardening, nothing surprises any more eh, without a root (normally seen at the base of the main stem) where a new shoot has sprouted from the large stem you are expecting a lot from your new cutting, there is a lot of leaf growing and will use up lots of energy to just survive rather than make roots, but like I say, you never know, hope someone else can help you better than my attempt, good luck anyway, you will loose nothing if not successful and have gained some new experience too.
All the best. WeeNel.
Well about an hour after I did that I removed all the leaves and put the stem in soil as I found a blog about a couple that did the same (just the wooden stem plain) and about 30 days later they had already rooted and started sprouting leaves.
