Hugs for Lorna, can't imagine how difficult and sore it must be..
Not long to wait for your washer/dryer..you'll appreciate them more won't you!
SNOW, yep had some of that for a couple of days, I'm always surprised with you being so up in the north country that you don't get it before we do..hoping that we don't have to deal with it until mid-December..
Was up half the night, thought maybe the winds would blow the 2 old oak trees that overhang the house; this morning I left early to give myself extra time to fight the winds, with a little Aveo didn't want to be doing high speeds and then it catch me unaware...
What's Happening in your neck of the woods?
YIKES .. I Googled Hazel McCallion because I thought she was a tad older than 73 .. she's 89 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got to admire her stamina !!
The new prosthesis unfortunately did not fit !!! Back we go next Friday for another try at it .. needless to say Lorna is disappointed to the MAX !!
CHILLY here ... isolated flurries here and there ..
Off to stir the spaghetti sauce
~M~
want to share your spaghetti??? my favorite!
Can well imagine how disappointing it must be for Lorna..how's her dad doing?
Mornin, and TGIF ^_^
Lorna's Dad is doing well .. a bit tired, but that's to be expected as his body gets used to better blood circulation AND the new drugs he has been put on.
At present they have family in visiting from South Hampton .. kind of a 'chatty lady' and you can tell by his tone on the phone he is not impressed .. but ..they leave today ..
The spaghetti was good, always good for a quick meal ..
Bought Hallowe'en treats yesterday .. I think I bought them for the HOUSE LoL as we rarely get a trick or treater coming up our driveway .. I was standing doing some 'head cyphering' .. and I do think if you get LOTS of children coming to your door, you'd be paying a pretty penny were you to puchase top of the line treats !!
MAYBE today is laundromat day .. will have to see how I feel .. been dealing with a grumbly tummy for the last 24hours ..
COLD out there !!
~M~
Think "M" I'll start a batch of spaghetti tonight and freeze in smaller containers..sure do love all those turkey dinners I froze at Thanksgiving, talk about yummy .. my thoughts once they are finished is to so same along with roast beef..cook one day and enjoy for the rest of the month..lol
It's raining quite heavily here and it's 41 degrees, as I left home this morning the rain was starting to get a bit chuncky, thought oh/oh freezing rain but not..
Not sure how many trick/treaters I'll get but always prepare for 120..between chips/mini chocolate bar and pop I'M BROKE!!! LOL
So enjoyable though watching them all come to the door..
OMG, newscaster this morning said on Sunday he'll dress for the trick or treaters at his house and he'll be a Chilean Miner..someone asked why?? he said he would hide in the basement, couldn't answer the door and hope someone would send down treats..imagine..
When Greg comes tomorrow I'll have him check my dryer, open the lint tray and some of the lint broke off and fell back down..did a wash and put in the dryer this morning and it wouldn't dry..let's hope it just means taking the back off and clearing the lint..
Adventure at the Laundromat is over and done, and, it WAS an adventure.
The place I go is an extremely small 'touristy' community west of our wee hamlet. Called Kakabeka Falls (Niagara of the North) .. it's located on the Trans Canada Hwy .. as is the laundromat .. the area around is bushy/woodsy ...
So .. I load 3 machines, pick up a magazine and start to browse through it .. something catches my eye outside .. I look up and out the window, and here, not 20ft from the building is a big old bull moose sauntering across the parking lot .. no doubt looking for a girlfirend as it's that time of year for them .. blessedly, he was headed for the bush area NOT the highway !! My cell phone was IN the car !!! So NO PIC.
Kinda made my day that ^_^
Betty, I think your Homemade Frozen dinner idea is great .. I usually always make WAY too much food, and then we have leftovers for 3 or 4 days !! ..
Lawsie .. hope your dryer is OK Betty ..
Have rented some movies to watch over the weekend ... fingers crossed they're OK ...
Off to get beaten at a game of cards .. Lorna is 'CUT THROAT' LoL ..
~M~
OMG "M" wouldn't that be something to see, you know hunters pay mega $$$ to get a look at one of those bulls...I'd be excited as well...
Which movies did you get? Keep saying one weekend I'll head to the movies but a better idea always seems to be wait until they are on Rogers, less fuss an the best part is if they aren't good you simply change the channel..lol
Another hour and homeward bound..excited about it being the weekend, not sure if it's because it's the weekend or that I get to play with all my tools.. it's our 4th annual DG Christmas workshop so want to get the projects cut out, packaged and mail by next weekend...LOVVVE tools
Ok, I missed the entire month of September (this whole thread) until today.....
*Carol - I'll have to check to see what you mean about 14th St & 16 Ave SW...... guess it was in the last thread.
*Betty - read about Kyle's trip on the bus and the STUPID VP's speech to the kids on the bus. Does he not remember how cruel kids are? Just because Kyle's mature enough to speak to the VP, doesn't mean the others are mature enough to accept the VP's speech!! What an IDIOT!
*Marilyn - glad to hear Lorna's dad is going good. So sorry to hear her prosthesis aren't fitting well.
Hazel McCallion is an amazing mayor, isn't she?
If I missed anyone, my apologies - trying to catch up on an entire month!!
Kids are cruel Susan and I'm sure to a certain degree Kyle understands..Don't think you'll find many Hazel's in this day and age. Perhaps her goal should have been Prime Minister..we need a woman running this country!
"M" oh happy days, got home and parked the car behind the outside basement door so I can bring in all the wood I picked up from Tmbrr Mart for the Christmas project I'm doing, and all of a sudden I saw an air exhaust from the furnace and it came to me, omg there is one for the dryer, went on the side of the house and it was packed solid with lint, pulled it all out and now working like a charm, thank goodness I didn't call Sears to have repairman come..one less chore for Greg tomorrow..am sure he'll appreciate it!
Lordy it's cold out there...
o wow, Betty - that's fabulous! Good thing you pulled out the lint - it's a fire hazard, doncha know?!?!
Never even thought about checking outdoor lint exhaust..that will teach me, will do so more often and you are right, that's how fires do start..carelessness!
Tired so off to bed I go,
Good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow!
Oh Marilyn - Kakabeka Falls - I haven't heard that name in years! Lived in Pickle Lake many many years ago and Kakabecka Falls was always a favourite place to stop when we drove out anywhere.
Morning, coffee is on, I'm on my second cup so please enjoy before I drink it all!
Not daybreak yet so not sure what it's doing outside except that it's not raining ..
Hope it's a sunshine day in your neighborhood...
Good morning,
Last time we got our ducts cleaned, they also cleaned the dryer vent, which in my case, is a long one spanning about 12 feet since we added onto the house. Probably should be checked again soon. And the dryer too. DH sometimes advances the laundry to the dryer but never checks the lint trap and I bought some new towels in September.
Have a concert to play tonight. Have taken on the role of ticket manager for the only orchestra in which I'm still playing. This concert is in a small venue and it's sold out. I've got a bunch of people mad at me because there aren't any tickets left. That will teach them to wait until the very end to order theirs.
No sunshine today. They are even talking about snow mixed with the rain. Yuck!
Since I have the concert to play this evening, DH will take DGS to a Family Adventures concert at the NAC. We have tickets for one adult, one child and alternate with the twins.
Hope you have a great day.
Ann (Viann)
Chilly morning out there .. but just 'frosty' not 'snowy' ;)
Going to have to do that dryer vent check .. I am sort of a stickler for cleaning the lint trap after every load is dried, never really considered the duct !! Like ViAnn .. I know checking or replacing ours is a feat not meant for the faint of heart!! As we live in a ranch style house (no basement) ... the duct snakes up to the attic and along and then outside to the vent .. obviously there's a plot afoot to change it as I see new METAL ducting in the garage .. I tend to think (in my whizzy wee brain) if you we to somehow attach the new end to the old end and pull from the outside that it should work .. apparently not .. no reason given .. perhaps I have a simple brain LoL
Betty .. good luck with the project ..
Laurie .. KBFalls is something I, at times, start to take for granted, when it is in it's FULL glory I am awestruck .. and some new shops have popped up that I have yet to visit. Mostly selling Amethyst.
WHOW .. Pickle Lake .. have gone fishing there .. remote fer sure .. could never quite get comfortable with the insidious HORSE FLIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Theya are HUGE up north !!
Glad to see you posting Susan ..
Good luck with the concert tonight ViAnn.
Betty .. watched one movie ..'CHLOE' .. ummmmmmm .. hadn't realized it would be quite so sexually explicit .. it starred Juliann Moore and was filmed in Toronto .. odd little flick .. have still quite not decided what the ending meant ?
Off to treat myself to coffee #2
Enjoy your weekend
~M~
Good Morning,all
been up for 3 1/2 hours.
Sewing, voice lessons, more sewing, then a Halloween party we're going to......
going to be a busy day - may not be on much, if at all.
Ciao, and take care everyone!!
Been up since the middle of the night, omg I'm tired..was cutting wood for the DG workshop I do each Christmas..stayed at it except for maybe 2 hrs. and still have about 3 hrs. of cutting left but it will not be tonight for sure..
During my 3hr break I went to Midland to watch Noah play hockey against Owen Sound..he's goalie..they won 6-4..yikes, did a lot of screeming, who knows if I'll have a voice tomorrow, I'm loud at the best of times but this aft. I outdid myself.
There was the most amazing coach bus at the rink, airbrushed with all the hockey players, you'd not even know there were windows, guess inside you can see out, but from the outside all you see is hockey players..wow and double wow, it was something...thought the NHL team was at the rink only to find out it was the youngster playing against Noah..Greg was telling me that since they lost 5 youngsters in a car crash going to a hockey game it's mandatory that whenever playing outside their arena that they take the bus..subsidized by the league and the Municipality and parents fund raising efforts..
On my way home as I drove into town there was a 'ride' program, young female officer, she was just about to talk to me when she noticed a truck a block down turn in a driveway, she asked me if he had been behind me?? told her I wasn't sure, she told me to drive on and went to try and catch him!
I could not believe when I opened the louvers of the outside vent how packed it was..going to make a point as well to check is at least once a week..
It's between rain and sleet right now..was to go to my brother Bernie's as he and his wife have been working on a ghoulie haunt trail for 2 weeks now but too cold for this old gal, couch, blankie and a hot chocolate is more what I'm looking for..
You never stop do you Ann, I thought I had a lot of energy but I might find it hard to keep up with you..
If I've missed a 'hi' please know it wasn't intentional, just tired tonight so off I go..that will teach me for getting up before 4am..
Happy Hallowe'en everyone ^_^
ENJOY !!!

Woke up to a winter wonderland this morning. Supposed to continue till this afternoon then more flurries overnight. The dog is sooo happy to see it. With any luck she will have it all eaten soon.
Did our annual food drive for the food bank yesterday. Filled the back of a 3/4 ton truck and $245 in cash which work will match. We do it every year at work at this time - "shell out for the food bank". Real feel good thing to do but I was beat yesterday when I got home after running door to door for 3 hours.
Not expecting any kids tonight but always buy a few treats just in case, the odd time someone drives up here so have to be prepared.
Happy Halloween everyone!
Congratulations of what you've manage to raise for food bank considering the economy that quite an accomplishment..
Had a bit of snow for about 10 minutes mid-afternoon..sure was glad to see it stop.
Cold for Trick or Treaters, would say I got about 75..
Each got a mini-chocolate bar, bag of chips and a pepsi/coke..imagine, some smaller tikes either said they didn't like that kind of pop, or some asked for doubles, some came to my door twice..what ever happened to MANNERS!
Some not dressed, said they were 'homeless' and one said he was a 'druggy' which I wouldn't doubt..lol
All and all I enjoyed it..
Now bedtime, so glad to go to work tomorrow for a rest.
Hope you all enjoyed your halloween...
Hope everyone had a safe and happy halloween..
jen
ok - got a bit of news. I emailed, on the 29th, to the job I interviewed to on the 22nd, and they were to get back to me on the 29th.
One of the interviewers emailed me back last night:
"Hi Susan
My apologies for the delay in response to you. We had been travelling most of the week and returned to the office Friday.
We would like you to proceed to the next step in our process which includes a peer interview and will try to arrange this for early next week. This interview will likely be over the phone. Are there times that work best for you?
In addition can you confirm we have your references. We use Back Check to conduct reference checks and I will forward you a form to fill out so we can get this process started."
I'd given them 3 letters of recommendation, and a further 2 names to contact should they wish. In my email, I resent those names & letters. I told them Mon & Tues am would be best for the peer interview. After all, I don't want to be sitting around all day waiting for them. As I know there's nothing to worry about with the recommendations, as I see it this is just a confirmation, and I'm just waiting for when I start...... hope it's soon!!
Nary a kidlette to our home on Hallowe'en .. not unusual though, most of the children who live out this way are, for the most part, taken into the city to do their treating .. pretty darned dark out in the country to have kids prowling about.
Got all my pansie pots emptied and put away .. of the 10 of'em, only 2 were frozen solid .. patio and enclosure area sure look bare now, Piper keeps going from corner to corner trying figure out where his 'salad bar' has gone !!
Wonderful job re the food bank drive Laurie .. I see in our paper where the university here will be having one for their food bank this week .. will have to find out where the locations for drop offs are ..
Hey Jen .. nice to see you posting ^_^
How is Allison doing ?
Susan .. what a long drawn out process for the job .. so .. am I to understand you actually HAVE secured the position and are now just 'tying up loose ends' so to speak ?
Busy week here .. today will be my only free day .. fingers crossed re the delivery (in ONE piece) of my washer and dryer on Wednesday .. Wed night I am guest speaker at a Hospice event (rubbery knees always for that) .. Thursday the furnace man comes for a cleaning and inspection .. no problems, just needs to be done .. Friday .. well .. here's hoping Lorna's leg will be ready and it'll FIT!!!
Take care everyone, and, welcome to NOVEMBER !!!!
~M~
Yup, Marilyn - the two I will work for want me to work there, so it's just a peer interview and checking my references. The references will be good, so I have no worries there.
I suppose it's just a question of when I get the offer (hopefully it will be a good one) and when I start - hopefully before I get my first unemployment cheque LOL
Cool weelenmd herbut supposed to warm up mid week.
I guess there were a fewkids going round here last night ( we now do have some young children in the neighborhood) but I don't 'do' Halloween so not sure.
Worked at LH on Saturday - just one tour but 3 groups totalling 10 people.
Yesterday did two home visits, one for my little foster , Journey, the other for a different rescue group . And boarder Freedom went home so now we are down to 3 dogs. The home visit for Journey went well, just have to check references and arrange a visit here with family and dogs and I expect he will be adopted.
An email from my brother in Toronto asked me to come down for Xmas as it may be the last chance to see my SIL. She was dx with bowel cancer last winter and not expected to live more than 6 months but is still doing well. I dont want to travel over Xmas ( in fact I dislike travelling at all these days) so am going to go for a few days the two weeks before Xmas.
Some shopping to do today - I actually need to b uy a new pair of jeans because I have lost sufficient weight that my favorites are getting a tad loose! I will get the older ones altered also but would like the pleasure of buying a pare of size 16 instead of the 18 I needed last year ( and the 1X I needed before that!)
I ordered ( my Xmas gift to myself) an indoor light garden and it arrived last week. Still in boexs in the basement, maybe wont put it together until after Xmas as I need to start sewing some more dog beds. I will use it for starting seeds for the garden.
Alli's doing great, shes keeping me pretty busy these days.. I do still pop in from time to time,
oh shes up again gtg
jen
Carol - sorry to hear about the heartache your brother and SIL are going through......
Good to hear she's still doing well. On the bright side, she was dx a year ago, with an expectancy of 6 months, so that's really good. My sister was dx 12 years ago with lung cancer and is still doing well, so here's hoping modern medicine gives your sister that same chance.
In indoor light garden?! kewl! It looks like this will be quite the project! Looking forward to seeing the completed garden ^_^
that looks good!
Carole, is it something the handyman can put together or will you tackle it yourself..oooh in my neck of the woods, please let me know when you will be coming to Toronto, who knows, if weather co-operated I just might be able to drive down to meet with you for coffee..
Jenn, nice to see you posting, any photo's of our Alli , bet she's grown inches..
Susan, wished you luck on other threads but you can't have to many people cheering you on...sounds as though it's a job made in heaven for you..maybe our prayers got to the big one???
"M" here's hoping your appliances get there without a scratch, am sure they wouldn't do it to you twice in a row. Busy week indeed, you never stop..let's hope all goes well for Lorna, be nice to get used to it before Christmas festivities start.
BRRRR I'm cold
It would be fantastic to look at the plants growing..neat!
Betty I am arriving the evening of the 15th and going home evening of 20th ( I never stay more than a long weekend)
I am hoping to have lunch with a friend on probably Friday 17th- maybe it might be possible for you to join us.
Brother lives in Mississauga- Eleanor is somewhere near Etobicoke West Mall.
I'll keep checking, I'd certainly enjoy meeting up with you.
Oh Betty - I hope you get to meet Carol - she's such a sweetheart!
Let's hope weather and schedule permit...
yes......
WE had snow yesterday and sleet in the morning, but it didn't even stay on the ground for a minute. Was glad it had cleared up and the kids could have a better evening.
Had about 80 kids, but a very few were much too old - early 20s or more, so I'll have to watch out for that next year.
Many kids aren't allowed to drink caffeinated sodas, so maybe the kids just said they didn't like the colas since they knew that they'd have to dump them when they got home and didn't want to carry them for nothing.
Lucky moose-sighting. I'd love to see one closer than I have.
Keep warm, y'all.
You might be right with regards to the pop! We had same weather yesterday and if you've got todays weather bet you've got your winter undies on...brrr it is cold!
Greg was suppose to come yesterday to put a/c away and take top off gazebo, was a no show, got home tonight and all was done, that's one less thing I have to worry about..I do though, now that I've emptied about 3 ft of water out of the pond, must get inside and take the pump out, get it cleaned and put inside for the winter..got to tell you, lots of work winterizing when you are on your own, best I find a man just for Oct./Nov. lol
Betty - where's that "man hunt" you were promised? I think it had something to do with the nekkid men as screensaver/wallpaper on your system? LOL
You guys ALWAYS make me smile .. no matter what !!!
Perhaps you can find a 'part time man' on Kijiji Betty ...
I hear ya on the work required to CLOSE the property, so to speak, seems it goes on everyday, right up until the very first major snowfall.
BIG projects, and all small time consumming ones ..
It'd sure be nice if you and Carol were able to connect ^_^
No snow OR otherwise here Marilyn .. in fact .. I put the chimenea on this afternoon and we sat outside and I got a sunburn ~~~
Made a huge chicken stir fry tonight .. looks like leftovers for tomorrow .. YAHOO !!!!
Off to watch Coronation ST. (I am addicted)
~M~
