Nice colors and collection of Mums Allison!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks.. they were from the co-op ... planted early this spring... hoping the early planting and warmth of the wall will bring them back next year

Great to see colors in October.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes any color now is good color

Oh pretty mums. Mine come back okay every year, but last year and this year the slugs made them bare legged about half way up the stems and the drought really seems to have held some back. And the gardener didn't pinch as much as usual either. They have buds finally, so some blooms in a week or so I think. Another group has already flowered mostly, so not much of show here this year. Glad you shared your pretties with us to enjoy, love all the colors.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the slugs pinched for you???

;)

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

LOL yep that's pretty much it except they met an early demise and didn't finish the job. I hope I will have to do the whole thing alone next year.

Very nice, Allison....I think we have the same football mum......mine is just opening....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

here are the ones I picked out.. so far none of those look like the plants I have.. but I am not complaining because they were cheap

All this talk of frost tonight sent me out to take a few pics. Here is a few of the things blooming here still. Many plants are already starting to go dormant because of the shorter and lower daylight, but a few light frosts and that final killing frost will end for certain this garden season. I hate the thought of it but it is the way of things.

First from a few days ago the 'Purple Dome' asters and last of the visitors.

New this year and still blooming hyssop 'Sonoran Sunset'. I sure do hope this returns next spring.

This little perennial digitalis is called 'Goldcrest'. It has been blooming all summer but these last few buds may not get to open fully if the frost does come.

This is a late bloomer for coreopsis but it will go until the frost zaps it. Large flowers of a really pretty shade of yellow. It is called 'Full Moon'.

Echinacea 'Firebird' also new with it's first and probably last bloom this season. Another I hope to see next year.

Honeysuckle 'John Clayton'. Has also bloomed all season and also has red berries to add a bit of color.

Hardy hibiscus 'Luna Red' has a new bloom today. Several other buds may not make it.

Same with rose 'Christopher Marlowe'. Many buds may never open, makes me sad.

and finally sedum 'May Night' on a rebloom and a new hollyhock seedling show the end of one season and promise for next year.

I think May Night is a salvia, but it's sure a beauty......also love the rose & that hyssop...if it's a light frost, shouldn't bother the rose......I've had roses in Nov.....

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Yes it is a salvia, don't know why I put sedum, senior moment and rushing I guess LOL. Yep the roses should get through the first couple of frosts, but I have a lot of buds again now on that bush that I do not think will make it to bloom without a little luck. Here's hoping for a late mini heat wave.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hope the AGA comes back for you too Patti... it's a beauty!!!! .. I just realized today the black & blue salvia bit the dust... guess it was too cold for it???

Thomaston, CT

Shouldn't be.... my raspberry salvia is still blooming.....

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the rest of my salvias are fine... that one is all shriveled up

???

Placement of the plant in the garden? Visiting cats?

Very pretty ladies, great colors

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it is in a container on my deck along with 10 others... no cats.. chipmunks maybe... I brought it in.. see what happens

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Beautiful colors for this cold fall day, thanks for posting them Ladies...just what I needed!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hhhmmm I am thinking the saliva was suffering from lack of water... even though every other container on the deck is fine... I potted the whole thing in a larger container... and it's inside now.. time will tell

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

W3e had frost last night.
I brought in the Cymbideum Orchid.
I am getting the itch to sow poppies but will wait until November.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think I am going to try and direct sow some this year

Ge, me too...but you have to wait until I send you more seeds. ^_^

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OK Celest. I have a lot of seeds I ordered but yours and Pirls are the only Pink ones.
My studio sale went well. I had 14 people who bought 10 paintings.
There are still some left so I will take them back to the studio. At least there will be room for them now.
I have crismis money now. What doesnt go to the grandchildren I will put in the 2011 garden fund.
