Whaddya say 5 - Sleeping

This is just for minor stings, but has anyone heard of taping a penny to the sting? It relieves the sting and swelling. It does work, probably not if you're allergic though!

Good technique, Bill! lol

That is very interesting, Debi. I had never heard of that! That's one I'll try to remember. I'm thinking our resident engineer might know why that works.....must have something to do with the copper reaction?

Did you know???
•From 1837 to 1857, the cent was made of bronze (95 percent copper, and five percent tin and zinc).
•From 1857, the cent was 88 percent copper and 12 percent nickel, giving the coin a whitish appearance.
•The cent was again bronze (95 percent copper, and five percent tin and zinc) from 1864 to 1962, except: In 1943, the coin's composition was changed to zinc-coated steel. This change was only for the year 1943 and was due to the critical use of copper for the war effort. However, a limited number of copper pennies were minted that year.
•In 1962, the cent's tin content, which was quite small, was removed. That made the metal composition of the cent 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc.
The alloy remained 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc until 1982, when the composition was changed to 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper (copper-plated zinc).

Wow, Louise....talk about lucky! Didn't know Hank was so allergic! I've been stung every year now for about 10 years...before that...nothing! I think body composition has changed, but not so sure it's sweet! Bill, can't believe you kept mowing...those stings hurt like $%&*. And Jen, thanks for the penny info....interesting...Debi, never heard of using a penny....just meat tenderizer.....when I delivered mail, kept some in my vehicle, because yellow jackets love mailboxes!

People have been saving pennies 1981 and older and smeltering them down. It is against the law but people are doing it!

Robin, that's why I haven't done a mailbox planting. Also it's on my neighbors lawn.

I did hear about the penny. I can attest that meat tenderizer works. I was stung last fall a few times and that prevented a bad reaction. Allergist recommended it.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

we always used a bakingsoda paste. mom never had meat tenderizer.

Thomaston, CT

No, we never did either, but my family doctor recommended it.....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You use meat tenderizer on jelly fish stings too

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Guess I should buy some meat tenderizer!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - I carry with me when I hike.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Glad to hear that, Victor!

Yes - tenderize the trails - I would.

Always leave the trail a little better than you found it....that was DH's mantra, & I find myself picking up sticks...sometimes branches....to make the walking a little easier...

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

I bring a plastic bag and pick up trash.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

You're a smart kitty YankeeCat. I usually end up putting the trash in my pockets or pack ewwwww.

East Bridgewater, MA

Good Samaritans !!!

Thank you... to ALL OF YOU !!!!!!

It's not easy picking up others' trash, but if you turn the bag inside-out on your hand, you never have to actually touch the trash.
