Whaddya say 5 - Sleeping

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Let's talk about sleep. Are you a sound sleeper? Do you fall asleep quickly or have trouble? When it's sleep time, I am out like a light. I can sleep through wild partys.

What time do you usually go to sleep? Does anything help you fall asleep - reading, tv, certain foods? Whenever I'm tired.

How many hours do you sleep? If you're retired, do you still get up the same time you always did when you worked? I sleep for exactly 7 hours and then I am wide awake no matter what time I go to bed.

Are you a morning person? Night person? Morning.

Do you like to sleep on your stomach, back or side? Prefer a softer or firmer mattress? Pillow? I sleep exactly like swimming the front crawl when you breath except my stroking arm is curled my head. Firm mattress. Pillow beween stroking arm and head.

Dahliafeetnotes: I snore. I also accidently wallop my true luv ALOT. I have to have a light on somewhere or the curtains open as I am totally night blind without a light or the moon.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i sometimes elbow my wife flipping over in bed (by accident) of course she was probably encroaching on my side of the bed and put herself in harms way

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I woke up to blood all over Brians face...and had the nerve to ask "Bloody Nose Dear?"
How was I to know I was the cause. hee hee he

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ouch!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh my goodness!!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OWIE! I have no guilt about whacking my true luv. My true luv used to chase the cat around the room trying to get him out and once the crazy ole cat jumped over me to hide and I got a big slash from his back claw on my nose while I was sleeping. My true luv pretended he was sleeping and knew nothing when I woke up all gashed. HUH! I SO knew who was the culprit.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i find it very difficult to believe your true luv would pretend to not know nothing about chasing the cat and causing such a gash :)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Much like the time he decapitated some asiatic lilys with the lawnmower cord and blamed it on the crazy ole cat. Liar, liar, pants on fire.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Brian survived but banned me from eating donuts before bed....seemed to do the trick, I haven't whacked him good like that since :)

LOL

I also don't sleep with my arm hanging over the side because the snakes might get me.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Bugaboos under the bed too flowAjen. I'm hoping the killer dustbunnies under there get them.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I can't let my feet hang off the bed cause the tigers will bite them.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have seen dust bunnies under our bed with manes!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Those are nightmares

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have the job to vacumm the house (hate it) never let them get to growling size - always remember that mane line from a past co-worker who was arguing with his wife over now clean the house was and he dropped that one on her - a classic i always thought :)

Thomaston, CT

That's a good one! The only night terror I had was lobsters on the bed...that's after my parents callously boiled up a few!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

was there butter on the bed - you need butter!

Thomaston, CT

LOL.....I only know I woke the household screaming.......

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Obviously I am a morning person. I go to bed at 7 o'clock to ease the arthritic feet.
Go to sleep at 8-8:30 with help from TV and Ambien.
I wake anywhere from 3:00 to 5:30.
Take a 20 minute nap around 1 PM .
I just added a 3 inch memoryfoam layer to my bed and I cant say enough great things about it. I put a chair next to the bed to aide my cat,he just cant haul himself up those extra inches.
8 years ago I refused a sleep apnia test, had to write a letter to my doc as proof I didnt want it. I am a light sleeper and the contraption on my face would keep me awake.
I dont believe in taking tests just because they are available, especlly when the "cure" is such a nightmare.

Thomaston, CT

My poor son had the mask...couldn't stand it....had his tonsils & adenoids out last year, & he's fine...and his wife can sleep again!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

That was a required surgery when I was 10 years old.All kids had them out.
Thats when I lost my trust of hospitals, they told me I could have ice cream. They didnt tell me I would have so much discomfort eating it.

Am I dreaming or is everyone sleeping in here today !

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Those are two separate threads! ^_^

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Need Wallingford sleeping in the bed to get a good night's sleep. When the weather is cold, he crawls under the covers with me. Holly joins us when it is really cold - or when the mood strikes her and I become a mom sandwich trying to stop the two from fighting. I never get enough sleep - especially now that I teach 4 nights a week but I can curl up in the old recliner with Wallingford and cat nap for hours all weekend. Sampson takes up a huge chunk of the bottom corner of the bed some nights but I hardly know he is there. I have been known to fall asleep in the front row of a nightclub when the band was playing. I usually get in a 3 or 4 minute nap at my computer most days after lunch sitting straight up. Works wonders. Have a problem getting sleepy behind the wheel - maybe I should listen to heavy metal instead of books when I drive.

Thomaston, CT

Keep your window open, Memory.....I didn't get much sleep last night until I put a spare quilt on the bed....guess I was too cold.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Interesting thread, Victor! I was laughing pretty hard when I read about how violent your wife is towards you during the night. One might think she has a phantom DG membership under a fake name....lol

I have sleep issues. I cannot just put my head down, turn off the light and go to sleep. Hours of tossing and turning! I have to read for about an hour (sometimes a bit less) in order to go to sleep. If anything wakes me up in the night after a certain point, I lie awake for hours and of course every small issue gets magnified into the end of the world. Last year I could equate the gallant soldier weed invasionin my vegetable garden to a global earthquake in the middle of the night. lol I sleep on my left side and the room has to be between cool and cold. Even during the winter, I have to have the windows cracked and the ceiling fan above our bed on. In Florida I also have another fan on to drown out neighborhood noises. Hank sleeps in outerwear. He has gotten to where he too, has to have air moving in the room to sleep. Our pups sleep in crates in the living room, but they are now old enough (read that to say "still and quiet enough" to come in at reading time to snuggle me for an hour before they go to their own beds. They like to "read" with me. Hank watches old movies or sports while I am reading to get sleepy. I don't like heavy covers, but I do sleep under two quilts when it's cold outside. I can't sleep with anything on my feet, because I get too hot in the night. I have to have really soft, good quality sheets and pillow cases. I like a firm mattress with a pillow top and I have a chiropractic pillow with a hollowed out center that cradles my neck (car accident as a kid; neck still bothers me if I'm not careful.) I go to bed to read at 9:00 and get to sleep between 10:00 and 10:30; I'm up by 6:30, at least an hour and a half later than when I was working and up by 5:00 am.....morning person, for sure!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very interesting, Louise! You reminded me - I absolutely DO have to have my feet covered - even when warm. Have to at least have a sheet.

I should have also asked how often everyone sleeps and if they remember them. I dream EVERY single night and remember a high percentage.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I wear socks to keep my feet warm. If my feet are cold - I cannot sleep.

Thomaston, CT

Hot water bottle works wonders, & I put the flannel sheets on soon...don't know how often I dream, & remember very little of them unless I write them down upon waking.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My wife is exactly the same, Memory.

I love flannel sheets in the cool weather. Never want to get up!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Same here can be 100° but need a sheet on, and need my feet covered can't stand cold feet

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I warp myself up in the covers. Wife says I'm a mummy. Interestingly, she finds a way to always get the sheet off me while leaving the comforter!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I love flannel sheet, too. The last set I bought got little pills on the printed side - so I put them on the bed inside out and they are just fine!

Feet in the sheets for sure. If this isnt weird nothing is. I sleep with my arm up over my head so when its cold I have to have a sweat shirt on just that arm. The rest of the shirt is hanging on the bed.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's funny

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Well, it turns out I can sleep without a Wallingford in the bed. :(

But I grab my pillow, turn it sideways and hold on tight all night so I don't have to fight for it with cats who think the bed is too hard for their precious little tail ends and need a pillow to sleep on. (Actually I have another one hidden behind the bed in case I lose the fight.)

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I love flannel sheets. DH hates them, he gets too hot so I can't use them.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Be the first to design a half flannel, half regular sheet!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I'll definetly have to do that. First I have to find flannel for the queen-sized bed.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

They have those already
